At the heart of baryonic matter the ARBUZ model favored by recent hadron form factor data

Data on electromagnetic form factors of proton, neutron, and $Λ$ from annihilation and scattering reactions are collected and interpreted in the frame of a generalized picture of the internal structure of baryons which holds in space-like and time-like regions. It is shown that these data give an insight of the space structure of the baryon for distances one hundred times smaller than the baryon size and, in the time-like region, a vision of the time evolution of the hadronic matter for times up to $10^{-25}$~s, that is two orders of magnitude shorter than the time taken by the light to cross the volume of a proton. In the proposed interpretation, the electric form factor of the proton in the space-like region can not cross zero, but vanishes or stays very small, as an extrapolation of the data seems to show. In the time-like region specific structures appearing in the data give evidence of the dominance of the quark-diquark structure in a specific range of time of the evolution of the system.

Compared analysis of time-like hyperon form factors

Data on hyperon form factors recently obtained from annihilation reactions are compared each other, and to proton and neutron form factors, in terms of two kinematical variables: the transferred momentum square, $q^2$, and the modulus $P$ of the relative momentum between the outgoing baryons. They are critically discussed in terms of possible correlated structures. The present status of the time-like form factor data for baryons is described and suggestions are given on the reactions and the kinematical range where data are desirable in order to clarify the arisen questions.

The first exploration of the physical Riemann surfaces of the ratio $G_E^Λ/G_M^Λ$

Recently, the BESIII experiment renewed the interest on baryon form factors by measuring the modulus and phase of the ratio $G_E^Λ/G_M^Λ$ between the electric and the magnetic $Λ$ form factors with unprecedented accuracy. The BESIII measurement together with older, less precise data, can be analyzed by means of a dispersive procedure based on analyticity and a set of first-principle constraints. Such a dispersive procedure shows the unique ability to determine for the first time the complex structure of the ratio knowing its modulus and phase measured by the BESIII collaboration at only one energy point. Different classes of solutions are obtained, and in all cases, the time-like and space-like behaviors show interesting properties: space-like zeros or unexpected large determinations for the phase. More data at different energies would be crucial to enhance the predictive power of the dispersive procedure and to unravel further remarkable features of the $Λ$ baryon.

Are narrow unflavoured mesons a signature of new physics?

New data of narrow low mass unflavoured mesonic structures are presented. A table of these exotic masses is obtained adding previously published data. The mass sequence shows a significant coupling of some of these clusters with stable hadrons: pion, nucleon, and deuteron. Indeed this coupling allows to reproduce rather well the masses of exotic narrow baryons and dibaryons. A discussion is presented to suggest a possible interpretation of these exotic hadronic structures.

Periodic interference structures in the time-like proton form factor

An intriguing and elusive feature of the timelike hadron form factor is the possible presence of an imaginary part associated to rescattering processes. We find evidence of that in the recent and precise data on the proton timelike form factor measured by the BABAR collaboration. By plotting these data as a function of the 3-momentum of the relative motion of the final proton and antiproton, a systematic sinusoidal modulation is highlighted in the near-threshold region. Our analysis attributes this pattern to rescattering processes at a relative distance of 0.7-1.5 fm between the centers of the forming hadrons. This distance implies a large fraction of inelastic processes in $\bar{p}p$ interactions, and a large imaginary part in the related $e^+e^- \rightarrow \bar{p}p$ reaction because of unitarity.

Nucleon electromagnetic form factors and polarization observables in space-like and time-like regions

We perform a global analysis of the experimental data of the electromagnetic nucleon form factors, in space-like and time-like regions. We give the expressions of the observables in annihilation processes, such as $p+\bar{p}\to \ell^+ +\ell^- $, $\ell=e$ or $μ$, in terms of form factors. We discuss some of the phenomenological models proposed in the literature for the space-like region, and consider their analytical continuation to the time-like region. After determining the parameters through a fit on the available data, we give predictions for the observables which will be experimentally accessible with large statistics, polarized annihilation reactions.

Nucleon electromagnetic structure: past, present, and future

We present the experimental status of electromagnetic hadron form factors. New and surprising results, based on polarization measurements, have been recently obtained for the electric proton and neutron form factors. In particular, the electric and magnetic distributions inside the proton appear not to be the same, in disagreement with results extracted from the unpolarized cross section, using the Rosenbluth separation. The new findings have given rise to a large number of papers and different speculations, as they question directly the models of nucleon structure and the reaction mechanism itself (based on $1γ$-exchange), with a possible revision of the calculation of radiative corrections, two-photon contribution etc. New data in time-like region are also available, through annihilation reactions. A large interest in this field arises, due also to the possibility of new measurements in polarized electron nucleon elastic scattering at JLab, and also in the time-like region, at Frascati and at the future FAIR international facility.

Relativistically invariant analysis of polarization effects in exclusive deuteron electrodisintegration process

A general formalism for the calculation of the differential cross section and polarization observables, for the process of deuteron electrodisintegration, is developed in the framework of relativistic impulse approximation. A detailed analysis of the general structure of the differential cross section and polarization observables for the $e^-+d\to e^-+n+p$ reaction is derived, using the formalism of the structure functions. The obtained expressions have a general nature and they hold in the one--photon--exchange mechanism, assuming P--invariance of the hadron electromagnetic interaction. The model of relativistic impulse approximation is introduced and the final state interaction is taken into account by means of the unitarization of the helicity amplitudes. A detailed description of the unitarization procedure is also presented. Using different parametrizations of the deuteron wave functions, the following polarization observables are calculated in the kinematical region of quasi--elastic deuteron electrodisintegration: the asymmetry for the scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons on a polarized deuteron target, the proton and neutron polarizations (for longitudinally polarized electron beam or vector--polarized deuteron target). The sensitivity to the neutron electric form factor is also thorougly investigated. The predictions of the model are compared with the results of recent polarization measurements and a good agreement with the existing experimental data has been obtained.

The $η_cγγ^*$ transition form factor in the decay $η_c\to γ\ell^+\ell^-$ and in the crossed channels $γe^-\to η_c e^- $ and $e^+e^-\toη_cγ

The Dalitz distribution and the effective mass spectrum of the lepton pair produced in the decay $η_c\to γ\ell^+ \ell^-$, as well as the differential cross sections for the crossed channels $γe^-\to η_c e^- $ and $e^+ e^-\to η_c γ$, are calculated in terms of the sole electromagnetic transition form factor for the vertex $η_c\toγγ^*$, where $γ^*$ is a virtual photon with a space-like (for $γe^- \to η_c e^- $) or a time-like (for $e^+ e^-\to η_c γ$ and $η_c\toγ\ell^+\ell^-$) four-momentum. Explicit parametrisations of the transition form factor are found in two different approaches, namely in Vector Dominance Model and in a QCD-inspired consideration on the basis of the process $c \bar{c}\to γ\ell^+ \ell^-$, with zero relative three-momentum of the annihilating quarks.
