Asymmetry of the neutrino mean free path in partially spin polarized neutron matter within the Skyrme model

The asymmetry in the neutrino mean free path for the absorption reaction $ν+ n \rightarrow e^{-} + p$, is evaluated within hot neutron matter under a strong magnetic field. We consider densities in the range $0.05 \leq ρ\leq 0.4$ fm$^{-3}$, several temperatures up to 30 MeV and magnetic field strengths from $B=0$ up to $B=10^{18}$~G. Polarized neutron matter is described within the non--relativistic Hartree--Fock model using the LNS Skyrme interaction. The neutrino mean free path has a weak dependence with the temperature and in the strong magnetic field region, it decreases for growing values of it. This contrast with the scattering reaction $ν+ n \rightarrow ν' + n'$, where the average mean free path is almost independent of the magnetic field and has a strong dependence with the temperature. We have evaluated the asymmetry from both the absorption and scattering reactions. Our results shows that the total asymmetry depends on the magnetic field intensity, the density and the temperature. For a density of $0.16$ fm$^{-3}$ and for a magnetic field strength of B=$10^{17}$~G, the asymmetry in the mean free path is found to be, $\sim 9\%$ and $\sim 3.4\%$ for temperatures of T$=15$ and $30$ MeV, respectively. While the same set of asymmetries for B=$10^{18}$~G, is $\sim 58\%$ and $\sim 48\%$.

Pressure-Induced Antiferromagnetic Dome in the Heavy-Fermion $Yb_2Pd_2In_{1-x}Sn_x$ System

In the heavy-fermion system $Yb_2Pd_2In_{1-x}Sn_x$, the interplay of crystal-field splitting, Kondo effect, and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interactions leads to complex chemical-, pressure-, and magnetic-field phase diagrams, still to be explored in full detail. By using a series of techniques, we show that even modest changes of parameters other than temperature are sufficient to induce multiple quantum-critical transitions in this highly susceptible heavy-fermion family. In particular, we show that, above $\sim 10$ kbar, hydrostatic pressure not only induces an antiferromagnetic phase at low temperature, but it likely leads to a reorientation of the Yb magnetic moments and/or the competition among different antiferromagnetic configurations.

Stoichiometric and off-stoichiometric full Heusler $\mathbf {Fe_2V_{1-x}W_xAl} $ thermoelectric systems

A series of full-Heusler alloys, $\rm Fe_2V_{1-x}W_xAl$, $0 \leq x \leq 0.2$, was prepared, characterized and relevant physical properties to account for the thermoelectric performance were studied in a wide temperature range. Additionally, off-stoichiometric samples with similar compositions have been included, and a 10~\% improvement of the thermoelectric figure of merit was obtained. The V/W substitution causes i) a change of the main carrier type, from holes to electrons as evidenced from Seebeck and Hall measurements and ii) a substantial reduction of the lattice thermal conductivity due to a creation of lattice disorder by means of a distinct different mass and metallic radius upon the V/W substitution. Moreover $ZT$ values above 0.2 have been obtained. A microscopic understanding of the experimental data observed is revealed from ab-initio calculations of the electronic and phononic structure.

Evidence of s-wave superconductivity in ternary intermetallic La3Pd4Si4

We measured the temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth of La3Pd4Si4 down to 0.02 Tc. We observe a temperature-independent behaviour below 0.25 Tc, which is firm evidence for a nodeless superconducting gap in this material. The data display a very small anomaly around 1 K which we attribute to the possible presence of a superconducting impurity phase. The superfluid density is well described by a two-phase model, considering La3Pd4Si4 and the impurity phase. The present analysis suggests that the superconducting energy gap of La3Pd4Si4 is isotropic, as expected for conventional BCS superconductors.

Absence of spin-orbit-coupling-induced effects on lattice dynamics in CePt3Si

Motivated by model calculations for the heavy fermion superconductor CePt3Si predicting phonon anomalies because of anti-symmetric spin-orbit coupling we performed a detailed experimental study of the lattice dynamical properties of CePt3Si. In particular, we investigated the dispersion of transverse acoustic and low energy optic phonon branches along the [110] direction using inelastic neutron scattering. In these branches, we found deviations from our ab-initio lattice dynamical calculations, which overall give a good description of the phonon dispersion in CePt3Si. However, the agreement for the [110] transverse modes can be improved if we neglect the Ce 4f states, done in an additional calculation. We conclude that the lattice dynamics of CePt3Si are conventional and that the observed deviations are not related to effects of anti-symmetric spin-orbit-coupling. More likely, ab-initio calculations overestimate the exchange between different phonon branches, particularly in the presence of 4f electron states. Our results imply that the ASOC plays less a role in non-centrosymmetric superconductors than commonly believed.

Coexistence of phases in asymmetric nuclear matter under strong magnetic fields

The equation of state of nuclear matter is strongly affected by the presence of a magnetic field. Here we study the equilibrium configuration of asymmetric nuclear matter for a wide range of densities, isospin composition, temperatures and magnetic fields. Special attention is paid to the low density and low temperature domain, where a thermodynamical instability exists. Neglecting fluctuations of the Coulomb force, a coexistence of phases is found under such conditions, even for extreme magnetic intensities. We describe the nuclear interaction by using the non--relativistic Skyrme potential model within a Hartree--Fock approach. We found that the coexistence of phases modifies the equilibrium configuration, masking most of the manifestations of the spin polarized matter. However, the compressibility and the magnetic susceptibility show clear signals of this fact. Thermal effects are significative for both quantities, mainly out of the coexistence region.

The magnetic ground state properties of non-centrosymmetric CePt$_3$B$_{1-x}$Si$_x$

We present a study of the alloying series of the non-centrosymmetric $f$-electron intermetallic CePt$_3$B$_{1-x}$Si$_x$ by means of muon spin rotation and relaxation measurements. In addition, we include a high pressure magnetization investigation of the stoichiometric parent compound CePt$_3$B. From our data we establish the nature of the magnetic ground state properties of the series, derive the ordered magnetic moment as function of stoichiometry and gain insight into the evolution of the symmetry of the ordered magnetic state with $x$. We thus can verify the notion that the behavior of the sample series can essentially be understood within the framework of the Doniach phase diagram. Further, our findings raise the issue of the role the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya magnetic interaction plays in correlated electron materials, and its effect on magnetic fluctuations in such materials.

The Non-Mesonic Weak Decay of Double-Lambda Hypernuclei: A Microscopic Approach

The non--mesonic weak decay of double--$Λ$ hypernuclei is studied within a microscopic diagrammatic approach. Besides the nucleon--induced mechanism, $ΛN\to nN$, widely studied in single--$Λ$ hypernuclei, additional hyperon--induced mechanisms, $ΛΛ\to Λn$, $ΛΛ\to Σ^0 n$ and $ΛΛ\to Σ^-p$, are accessible in double--$Λ$ hypernuclei and are investigated here. As in previous works on single--$Λ$ hypernuclei, we adopt a nuclear matter formalism extended to finite nuclei via the local density approximation and a one--meson exchange weak transition potential (including the ground state pseudoscalar and vector octets mesons) supplemented by correlated and uncorrelated two--pion--exchange contributions. The weak decay rates are evaluated for hypernuclei in the region of the experimentally accessible light hypernuclei $^{10}_{ΛΛ}$Be and $^{13}_{ΛΛ}$B. Our predictions are compared with a few previous evaluations. The rate for the $ΛΛ\to Λn$ decay is dominated by $K$--, $K^*$-- and $η$--exchange and turns out to be about 2.5\% of the free $Λ$ decay rate, $Γ_Λ^{\rm free}$, while the total rate for the $ΛΛ\to Σ^0 n$ and $ΛΛ\to Σ^- p$ decays, dominated by $π$--exchange, amounts to about 0.25\% of $Γ_Λ^{\rm free}$. The experimental measurement of these decays would be essential for the beginning of a systematic study of the non--mesonic decay of strangeness $-2$ hypernuclei. This field of research could also shed light on the possible existence and nature of the $H$--dibaryon.

Neutron matter under strong magnetic fields: a comparison of models

The equation of state of neutron matter is affected by the presence of a magnetic field due to the intrinsic magnetic moment of the neutron. Here we study the equilibrium configuration of this system for a wide range of densities, temperatures and magnetic fields. Special attention is paid to the behavior of the isothermal compressibility and the magnetic susceptibility. Our calculation is performed using both microscopic and phenomenological approaches of the neutron matter equation of state, namely the Brueckner--Hartree--Fock (BHF) approach using the Argonne V18 nucleon-nucleon potential supplemented with the Urbana IX three-nucleon force, the effective Skyrme model in a Hartree--Fock description, and the Quantum Hadrodynamic formulation with a mean field approximation. All these approaches predict a change from completely spin polarized to partially polarized matter that leads to a continuous equation of state. The compressibility and the magnetic susceptibility show characteristic behaviors, which reflect that fact. Thermal effects tend to smear out the sharpness found for these quantities at T=0. In most cases a thermal increase of 10 MeV is enough to hide the signals of the change of polarization. The set of densities and magnetic field intensities for which the system changes it spin polarization is different for each model. However, there is an overall agreement between the three theoretical descriptions.

On the effect of the Delta(1232) in hypernuclear non-mesonic weak decay: a microscopic approach

The non-mesonic weak decay of $Λ$-hypernuclei is studied within a microscopic diagrammatic approach which includes, for the first time, the effect or the $Δ$-baryon resonance. We adopt a nuclear matter formalism extended to finite nuclei via the local density approximation, a one-meson exchange weak transition potential, a Bonn nucleon-nucleon strong potential and a $ΔN\to NN$ strong potential based on the Landau-Migdal theory. Ground state correlations and final state interactions (FSI), at second order in the baryon-baryon strong interaction, are introduced on the same footing for all the isospin channels of one- and two-nucleon induced decays. Weak decay rates and single and double-coincidence nucleon spectra are predicted for $^{12}_Λ$C and compared with recent KEK and FINUDA data. The $Δ(1232)$ introduces new FSI-induced decay mechanisms which lead to an improvement when comparing the obtained nucleon spectra with data, while it turns out to have a negligible effect on the decay rates. Discrepancies with experiment remain only for emission spectra involving protons, but are mostly restricted to double-nucleon correlations in the non-back-to-back kinematics.

Optimizing thermoelectric properties of filled MPt$_4$Ge$_{12-x}$Sb$_x$ skutterudites by band engineering

On the basis of density functional theory (DFT) calculations thermoelectric properties are derived for Sb-doped skutterudites MPt$_4$Ge$_{12-x}$Sb$_x$ with M=Ba,La,Th. It is predicted that the originally very small absolute values of Seebeck coefficients $|S|$ of the undoped compounds is increased by factors of 10 or more for suitable dopings. The optimal dopings correspond to a "magic" valence electron number for which all electronic states up to a (pseudo)gap are filled. The theoretical findings are corroborated by measurements of $S$ for LaPt$_4$Ge$_{12-x}$Sb$_x$ skutterudites. DFT derived vibrational rattling-like modes for LaPt$_4$Ge$_{12}$ indicate a small value for the lattice thermal conductivity which in combination with a large value of $S^2$ makes the La-based skutterudites appear as promising thermoelectric materials.

Pair breaking by nonmagnetic impurities in the noncentrosymmetric superconductor CePt3Si

We have studied the effect of Ge substitution and pressure on the heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si. Ge substitution on the Si site acts as negative chemical pressure leading to an increase in the unit-cell volume but also introduces chemical disorder. We carried out electrical resistivity and ac heat-capacity experiments under hydrostatic pressure on CePt3Si1-xGex (x=0, 0.06). Our experiments show that the suppression of superconductivity in CePt3Si1-xGex is mainly caused by the scattering potential, rather than volume expansion, introduced by the Ge dopants. The antiferromagnetic order is essentially not affected by the chemical disorder.

Dispersion and damping of zone-boundary magnons in the noncentrosymmetric superconductor CePt3Si

Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) is employed to study damped spin-wave excitations in the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si along the antiferromagnetic Brillouin-zone boundary in the low-temperature magnetically ordered state. Measurements along the (1/2 1/2 L) and (H H 1/2-H) reciprocal-space directions reveal deviations in the spin-wave dispersion from the previously reported model. Broad asymmetric shape of the peaks in energy signifies strong spin-wave damping by interactions with the particle-hole continuum. Their energy width exhibits no evident anomalies as a function of momentum along the (1/2 1/2 L) direction, which could be attributed to Fermi-surface nesting effects, implying the absence of pronounced commensurate nesting vectors at the magnetic zone boundary. In agreement with a previous study, we find no signatures of the superconducting transition in the magnetic excitation spectrum, such as a magnetic resonant mode or a superconducting spin gap, either at the magnetic ordering wavevector (0 0 1/2) or at the zone boundary. However, the low superconducting transition temperature in this material still leaves the possibility of such features being weak and therefore hidden below the incoherent background at energies ~0.1 meV, precluding their detection by INS.

Microscopic Approach to Nucleon Spectra in Hypernuclear Non-Mesonic Weak Decay

A consistent microscopic diagrammatic approach is applied for the first time to the calculation of the nucleon emission spectra in the non-mesonic weak decay of Lambda-hypernuclei. We adopt a nuclear matter formalism extended to finite nuclei via the local density approximation, a one--meson exchange weak transition potential and a Bonn nucleon-nucleon strong potential. Ground state correlations and final state interactions, at second order in the nucleon--nucleon interaction, are introduced on the same footing for all the isospin channels of one- and two-nucleon induced decays. Single and double--coincidence nucleon spectra are predicted for 12_Lambda^C and compared with recent KEK and FINUDA data. The key role played by quantum interference terms allows us to improve the predictions obtained with intranuclear cascade codes. Discrepancies with data remain for proton emission.

Microscopic approach to the proton asymmetry in the non-mesonic weak decay of Lambda-hypernuclei

The non--mesonic weak decay of polarized $Λ$-hypernuclei is studied with a microscopic diagrammatic formalism in which one- and two-nucleon induced decay mechanisms, $\vecΛ N \to NN$ and $\vecΛ NN \to NNN$, are considered together with (and on the same ground of) nucleon final state interactions. We adopt a nuclear matter formalism extended to finite nuclei via the local density approximation. Our approach adopts different one-meson-exchange weak transition potentials, while the strong interaction effects are accounted for by a Bonn nucleon-nucleon interaction. We also consider the two-pion-exchange effect in the weak transition potential. Both the two-nucleon induced decay mechanism and the final state interactions reduce the magnitude of the asymmetry. The quantum interference terms considered in the present microscopic approach give rise to an opposite behavior of the asymmetry with increasing energy cuts to that observed in models describing the nucleon final state interactions semi-classically via the intranuclear cascade code. Our results for the asymmetry parameter in $^{12}_Λ$C obtained with different potential models are consistent with the asymmetry measured at KEK.

Stress engineering at the nanometer scale: Two-component adlayer stripes

Spontaneously formed equilibrium nanopatterns with long-range order are widely observed in a variety of systems, but their pronounced temperature dependence remains an impediment to maintain such patterns away from the temperature of formation. Here, we report on a highly ordered stress-induced stripe pattern in a two-component, Pd-O, adsorbate monolayer on W(110), produced at high temperature and identically preserved at lower temperatures. The pattern shows a tunable period (down to 16 nm) and orientation, as predicted by a continuum model theory along with the surface stress and its anisotropy found in our DFT calculations. The control over thermal fluctuations in the stripe formation process is based on the breaking/restoring of ergodicity in a high-density lattice gas with long-range interactions upon turning off/on particle exchange with a heat bath.

Thermoelectric properties of Ba-Cu-Si clathrates

Thermoelectric properties of the type-I clathrates Ba$_8$Cu$_x$Si$_{46-x}$ ($3.6 \leq x \leq 7$, $x$ = nominal Cu content) are investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The polycrystalline samples are prepared either by melting, ball milling and hot pressing or by melt spinning, hand milling and hot pressing techniques. Temperature-dependent electrical resistivity, $ρ(T)$, and the Seebeck coefficient, $S(T)$, measurements reveal metal-like behavior for all samples. For $x = 5$ and 6, density functional theory calculations are performed for deriving the enthalpy of formation and the electronic structure which is exploited for the calculation of Seebeck coefficients and conductivity within Boltzmann's transport theory. For simulating the properties of doped clathrates the rigid band model is applied. On the basis of the density functional theory results the experimentally observed compositional dependence of $ρ(T)$ and $S(T)$ of the whole sample series is analyzed. The highest dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit $ZT$ of 0.28 is reached for a melt-spun sample at $600^{\circ}$C. The relatively low $ZT$ values in this system are attributed to the too high charge carrier concentrations.

A Theoretical Determination of N_{nn}/N_{np} in Hypernuclear Non--Mesonic Weak Decay

The ratio N_{nn}/N_{np} between the number of neutron-neutron and neutron--proton pairs emitted in the non--mesonic weak decay of Λ-hypernuclei is calculated within a nuclear matter formalism extended to ^{12}_{Lambda}C via the local density approximation. The single--nucleon emission spectra, N_p and N_n, are also evaluated. Our formalism takes care of both ground state correlations (gsc) and final state interactions (FSI). The evaluation of N_{nn}/N_{np} which, unlike Gamma_n/Gamma_p = Gamma(Lambda n -> nn)/Gamma(Lambda p -> np), is an actual observable quantity in non--mesonic decay is performed within a fully microscopic model where a proper treatment of FSI, gsc and ground state normalization is considered. All the isospin channels contributing to one-- and two--nucleon induced decays are included. Our final result for the coincidence number ratio, N_{nn}/N_{np}=0.374, is in agreement with the KEK--E508 datum, (N_{nn}/N_{np})^{\rm exp}=0.40 +/- 0.10.

On the role of ground state correlations in hypernuclear non-mesonic weak decay

The contribution of ground state correlations (GSC) to the non--mesonic weak decay of $^{12}_Λ$C and other medium to heavy hypernuclei is studied within a nuclear matter formalism implemented in a local density approximation. We adopt a weak transition potential including the exchange of the complete octets of pseudoscalar and vector mesons as well as a residual strong interaction modeled on the Bonn potential. Leading GSC contributions, at first order in the residual strong interaction, are introduced on the same footing for all isospin channels of one-- and two--nucleon induced decays. Together with fermion antisymmetrization, GSC turn out to be important for an accurate determination of the decay widths. Besides opening the two--nucleon stimulated decay channels, for $^{12}_Λ$C GSC are responsible for 14% of the rate $Γ_1$ while increasing the $Γ_{n}/Γ_{p}$ ratio by 4%. Our final results for $^{12}_Λ$C are: $Γ_{\rm NM}=0.98$, $Γ_{n}/Γ_{p}=0.34$ and $Γ_2/Γ_{\rm NM}=0.26$. The saturation property of $Γ_{\rm NM}$ with increasing hypernuclear mass number is clearly observed. The agreement with data of our predictions for $Γ_{\rm NM}$, $Γ_n/Γ_p$ and $Γ_2$ is rather good.

Temperature dependence of surface stress across an order-disorder transition: p(1x2)O/W(110)

Strain relaxations of a p(1x2) ordered oxygen layer on W(110) are measured as a function of temperature across the disordering transition using low-energy electron diffraction. The measured strains approach values of 0.027 in the [1-10] and -0.053 in the [001] direction. On the basis of the measured strain relaxations, we give quantitative information on temperature-dependent surface stress using the results of ab initio calculations. From the surface formation energy for different strains, determined by first-principles calculations, we estimate that surface stress changes from -1.1 for the ordered phase to -0.2N/m for the disordered one along [1-10], and from 5.1 to 3.4 N/m along [001]. Moreover, our observation that the strains scale inversely with domain size confirms that the strain relaxation takes place at the domain boundaries.

Extreme vortex pinning in the non-centrosymmetric superconductor CePt$_{3}$Si

We report on the vortex dynamics of a single crystal of the non-centrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CePt$_{3}$Si. Decays of the remnant magnetization display a clean logarithmic time dependence with rates that follow the temperature dependence expected from the Kim-Anderson theory. The creep rates are lower than observed in any other centrosymmetric superconductor and are not caused by high critical currents. On the contrary, the critical current in CePt$_{3}$Si is considerably lower than in other superconductors with strong vortex pinning indicating that an alternative impediment on the flux line motion might be at work in this superconductor.

Unusual behaviours and Impurity Effects in the Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor CePt3Si

We report a study in which the effect of defects/impurities, growth process, off-stoichiometry, and presence of impurity phases on the superconducting properties of noncentrosymmetric CePt3Si is analysed by means of the temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth. We found that the linear low-temperature response of the penetration depth -indicative of line nodes in this material- is robust regarding sample quality, in contrast to what is observed in unconventional centrosymmetric superconductors with line nodes. We discuss evidence that the broadness of the superconducting transition may be intrinsic, though not implying the existence of a second superconducting transition. The superconducting transition temperature systematically occurs around 0.75 K in our measurements, in agreement with resistivity and ac magnetic susceptibility data but in conflict with specific heat, thermal conductivity and NMR data in which Tc is about 0.5 K. Random defects do not change the linear low-temperature dependence of the penetration depth in the heavy-fermion CePt3Si with line nodes, as they do in unconventional centrosymmetric superconductors with line nodes.

Multiband Superconductivity in Heavy Fermion Compound CePt3Si without Inversion Symmetry: An NMR Study on a High-Quality Single Crystal

We report on novel superconducting characteristics of the heavy fermion (HF) superconductor CePt3Si without inversion symmetry through 195Pt-NMR study on a single crystal with T_c= 0.46 K that is lower than T_c= 0.75 K for polycrystals. We show that the intrinsic superconducting characteristics inherent to CePt3Si can be understood in terms of the unconventional strong-coupling state with a line-node gap below T_c= 0.46 K. The mystery about the sample dependence of T_c is explained by the fact that more or less polycrystals and single crystals inevitably contain some disordered domains, which exhibit a conventional BCS s-wave superconductivity (SC) below 0.8 K. In contrast, the Neel temperature T_N= 2.2 K is present regardless of the quality of samples, revealing that the Fermi surface responsible for SC differ from that for the antiferromagnetic order. These unusual characteristics of CePt3Si can be also described by a multiband model; in the homogeneous domains, the coherent HF bands are responsible for the unconventional SC, whereas in the disordered domains the conduction bands existing commonly in LaPt3Si may be responsible for the conventional s-wave SC. We remark that some impurity scatterings in the disordered domains break up the 4f-electrons-derived coherent bands but not others. In this context, the small peak in 1/T_1 just below T_c reported in the previous paper (Yogi et al, 2004) is not due to a two-component order parameter composed of spin-singlet and spin-triplet Cooper pairing states, but due to the contamination of the disorder domains which are in the s-wave SC state.

Nonmesonic weak decay of $Λ$ hypernuclei within a nuclear matter framework

The nonmesonic weak decay of $Λ$ hypernuclei is studied using nuclear matter. We have developed a formalism which gives a microscopic interpretation of the process of emission of particles originated in this decay. More specifically, our scheme provides a unified treatment of $Γ(ΛN \to NN$) and $N_{N}$ ($N_{NN}$), the $Λ$ non-mesonic weak decay widths and the number of emitted particles (pair of particles) of kind $N$ ($NN$), respectively. We have also evaluated for the first time the quantum interference terms between the $n$- and $p$-induced weak decay amplitudes. Explicit expressions for $N_{N}$ and $N_{NN}$ are shown within the ring approximation. Using the local density approximation together with the ring approximation, we report results for the decay of the $^{12}_ΛC$ hypernucleus. We have obtained values for the ratio $N_{n}/N_{p}$ ($N_{nn}/N_{np}$) in the range $1.4-1.6$ ($0.2-0.3$), where no energy threshold have been employed. The $n$- and $p$-induced interference terms modify in less than $\sim 3 %$ these results.

Single and double coincidence nucleon spectra in the weak decay of Lambda hypernuclei

Recent progress has been experienced in the field of hypernuclear weak decay, especially concerning the ratio of the neutron- to proton-induced Lambda non-mesonic decay rates, G_n/G_p. Theoretical analyses of nucleon coincidence data have been performed in a finite nucleus framework. They led to the extraction of G_n/G_p values in agreement with pure theoretical estimates, thus providing an evidence for the solution of a longstanding puzzle. Here we present an alternative approach to the problem, based on a nuclear matter formalism extended to finite nuclei via the local density approximation. The work is motivated by the exigence to make the determination of G_n/G_p from data less model dependent. One-meson-exchange potentials are used for describing both the one- and two-nucleon induced decays, Lambda N -> n N and Lambda N N -> n N N. For the latter, treated within a microscopic approach, the channels Lambda n n -> n n n and Lambda p p -> n p p are included in addition to the mode Lambda n p -> n n p already considered, in a phenomenological way, in previous studies. The propagation of the final nucleons in the residual nucleus is simulated by an intranuclear cascade code. We evaluate single and double coincidence nucleon spectra for the non-mesonic decay of C-12-Lambda. Through the comparison of our predictions with KEK coincidence data we determine G_n/G_p=0.43 \pm 0.10 for this hypernucleus, confirming previous finite nucleus analyses.

Evidence for a Novel State of Superconductivity in Noncentrosymmetric CePt3Si : A 195Pt-NMR Study

We report on novel antiferromagnetic (AFM) and superconducting (SC) properties of noncentrosymmetric CePt3Si through measurements of the 195Pt nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1. In the normal state, the temperature (T) dependence of 1/T1 unraveled the existence of low-lying levels in crystal-electric-field multiplets and the formation of a heavy fermion (HF) state. The coexistence of AFM and SC phases, that emerge at TN = 2.2 K and Tc = 0.75 K, respectively, takes place on a microscopic level. CePt3Si is the first HF superconductor that reveals a peak in 1/T1 just below Tc and, additionally, does not follow the T^3 law that used to be reported for most unconventional HF superconductors. We remark that this unexpected SC characteristics may be related with the lack of an inversion center in its crystal structure.

Nonmesonic Weak Decay of $Λ$ Hypernuclei within a Nuclear Matter Formalism

The nonmesonic weak decay of $Λ$ hypernuclei using nonrelativistic nuclear matter is studied. As the basic building block we use the Polarization Propagator Method developed by Oset and Salcedo. It is shown that the exact calculation of exchange terms is required. Using the Local Density Approximation we evaluate the nonmesonic decay width for $^{12}_ΛC$ and compare the result with a finite nucleus calculation, obtaining a qualitative agreement.
