Light meson emission in (anti)proton induced reactions

Reactions induced by high energy antiprotons on proton on nuclei are accompanied with large probability by the emission of a few mesons. Interesting phenomena can be observed and QCD tests can be performed, through the detection of one or more mesons. The collinear emission from high energy (anti)proton beams of a hard pion or vector meson, can be calculated similarly to the emission of a hard photon from an electron \cite{Kuraev:2013izz}. This is a well known process in QED, and it is called the "Quasi-Real Electron method", where the incident particle is an electron and a hard photon is emitted leaving an 'almost on shell' electron impinging on the target \cite{Baier:1973ms}. Such process is well known as Initial State Emission (ISR) method of scanning over incident energy, and can be used, in the hadron case, to produce different kind of particles in similar kinematical conditions. In case of emission of a charged light meson, $π$ or $ρ$-meson, in proton-proton(anti-proton) collisions, the meson can be deviated in a magnetic field and detected. The collinear emission (along the beam direction) of a charged meson may be used to produce high energy (anti)neutron beams. This can be very useful to measure the difference of the cross sections of (anti)proton and (anti)neutron scattering from the target and may open the way for checking sum rules with antiparticles. Hard meson emission allows also to enhance the cross section when the energy loss from one of the incident particles lowers the total energy up to the mass of a resonance. The cross section can be calculated, on the basis of factorized formulas, where the probability of emission of the light mesons multiplies the cross section of the sub-process. Multiplicity distributions for neutral and charged meson production are also given.

NNLO electroweak corrections for polarized Moller scattering: one-loop insertions to boxes

The paper discusses the two-loop (NNLO) electroweak radiative corrections to the parity-violating Moller scattering asymmetry induced by insertions to boxes of electron and neutrino mass operators (fermion self-energies), vertex functions and boson self-energies. The results will be relevant to the ultra-precise 11 GeV MOLLER experiment planned at the Jefferson Laboratory, which will measure the weak charge of the electron and search for new physics. The numerical estimations for the NNLO contribution to the cross section asymmetry are presented.

About the creation of proton-anti-proton pair at electron-positron collider in the energy range of the mass $Ψ(3770)$

The process of electron--positron annihilation into proton--antiproton pair is considered within the vicinity of $ψ(3770)$ resonance. The interference between the pure electromagnetic intermediate state and the $ψ(3770)$ state is evaluated. It is shown that this interference is destructive and the relative phase between these two contributions is large ($ϕ_0 \approx 250^o$).

Alternative way to understand the unexpected results of the JLab polarization experiments to measure the Sachs form factors ratio

In the one-photon exchange approximation we discuss questions related to the interpretation of unexpected results of the JLab polarization experiments to measure the Sachs form factors ratio $G_E/G_M$ in the region $1. 0 \leq Q^2 \leq 8.5$ GeV$^2$. For this purpose, we developed an approach which essentially is a generalization of the constituent-counting rules of the perturbative QCD (pQCD) for the case of massive quarks. We assume that at the lower boundary of the considered region the hard-scattering mechanism of pQCD is realized. Within the framework of the developed approach we calculated the hard kernel of the proton current matrix elements $J^{\pm δ, δ}_{p}$ for the full set of spin combinations corresponding to the number of the spin-flipped quarks, which contribute to the proton transition without spin-flip ($J^{δ, δ}_{p}$) and with the spin-flip ($J^{-δ, δ}_{p}$). This allows us to state that (i) around the lower boundary of the considered region, the leading scaling behavior of the Sachs form factors has the form $G_E, G_M \sim 1/Q^6$, (ii) the dipole dependence ($G_E, G_M \sim 1/Q^4$) is realized in the asymptotic regime of pQCD when $τ\gg 1$ ($τ=Q^2/4M^2$) in the case when the quark transitions with spin-flip dominate, (iii) the asymptotic regime of pQCD in the JLab experiments has not yet been achieved, and (iv) the linear decrease of the ratio $G_{E}/G_{M}$ at $τ< 1$ is due to additional contributions to $J^{δ, δ}_{p}$ by spin-flip transitions of two quarks and an additional contribution to $J^{-δ, δ}_{p}$ by spin-flip transitions of three quarks.

Constraining the Hadronic Contributions to the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment

The mini-proceedings of the Workshop on "Constraining the hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment" which included the "13th meeting of the Radio MonteCarLow WG" and the "Satellite meeting R-Measurements at BES-III" held in Trento from April 10th to 12th, 2013, are presented. This collaboration meeting aims to bring together the experimental e+e- collider communities from BaBar, Belle, BESIII, CMD2, KLOE, and SND, with theorists working in the fields of meson transitions form factors, hadronic contributions to (g-2)_μand effective fine structure constant, and development of Monte Carlo generator and Radiative Corrections for precision e+e- and tau physics.

Final state emission radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-(γ)$. Contribution to muon anomalous magnetic moment

Analytic calculation are presented of the contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of a muon from the channels of annihilation of an electron-positron pair to a pair of charged pi-mesons with radiative correction connected with the final state, as well as corrections to the lowest order kernel. The result with point-like pi-meson assumptions is $a_{point}=a_{point}^{(1)}+Δa_{point}$, $a_{point}^{(1)}=7.0866 \cdot 10^{-9}; Δa_{point}= -2.4 \cdot 10^{-10} .$ Taking into account the pion form factor in the frames of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) approach leads to $a_{NJL}=a_{NJL}^{(1)}+Δa_{NJL}$, $a_{NJL}^{(1)}= 5.48\cdot 10^{-8}; Δa_{NJL}=-3.43\cdot 10^{-9}$.

Hard light meson production in (anti)proton-hadron collisions and charge-echange reactions

An extension of the QED 'return to resonance' mechanism to light meson emission ($π$, $ρ$) in (anti)proton collisions with a hadronic target (nucleon or nucleus) is proposed. The cross section and the multiplicity distributions are calculated. The collinear emission (along the beam direction) of a charged meson may be used to produce high energy (anti)neutron beams. Possible applications at existing and planned facilities are considered.

Imaginary part of the zero angle light-by-light scattering tensor

We calculate the bilinear combination of Dirac tensors describing the creation of a pair of charged particle (pi-meson or leptons) by virtual photons integrated on the final particle phase volume. It can be interpreted as an s channel discontinuity of the zero angle light-by-light scattering tensor with both photons off mass shell. The expression of light-by-light scattering tensor is represented in the form where the gauge invariance and the Bose symmetry are explicitly shown. Some applications and the checks are discussed.

On the measurement of $χ_2(^3P_2)$ quarkonium state in the processes $e^++e^-\to \bar p+p$ and $\bar p+p\to e^++e^-$

The intermediate quarkonium state $χ_2(^3P_2)$ in electron-positron annihilation to proton and antiproton as well as in antiproton-proton annihilation to electron and positron can produce backward-forward asymmetry, when populated through two photon exchange. We use the dispersion relation method, which permits to express the asymmetry in terms of partial widths of quarkonium decay. The asymmetry dependence on the center of mass energy in the range near the resonance is presented. The comparison with a similar effect in these reactions with the neutral $Z$-boson in the intermediate state is given. We show that these effects are $\le 10^{-3}$. The main source of asymmetry is of pure QED origin ($\sim 10^{-2}$) which arises from the interference between initial and final state real photon emission.

On the physical meaning of Sachs form factors and on the violation of the dipole dependence of G_E and G_M on Q^2

We discuss questions related to the interpretation of unexpected results of measurements of the proton form factors ratio G_E/G_M in the polarization experiments done in JLab in the region of 0.5 < Q^2 < 8.5 GeV^2. For this purpose, in the case of the hard scattering mechanism we calculated (in the leading approximation) the matrix elements of the proton current J^{\pm δ,δ}_p for the full set of spin combinations corresponding to the number of the spin-flipped quarks, which contribute to the proton transition without spin-flip (J^{δ,δ}_p) and with the spin-flip (J^{-δ,δ}_p). This set is: (0,1), (0,3), (2,1), (2,3), where the first number in parentheses is the number of the spin-flipped quarks, which contribute to the J^{δ,δ}_p, and the second one is the number of the spin-flipped quarks which contribute to the J^{-δ,δ}_p. For the sets of (0,1) and (2,3), we found that the ratio G_E/G_M ~ 1, and the form factors G_E and G_M behave for the set of (0,1) as G_E, G_M ~ 1/Q^6, and for the set of (2,3) as G_E, G_M ~ 1/Q^4. At the same time the set of (0,1) is realized for τ<< 1, and the set (2,3) for τ>> 1 (τ=Q^2/4m^2). This allows us to suppose that: 1) at the lower boundary of the experimental measurements of the ratio G_E/G_M not dipole dependence appears but the law of G_E, G_M ~ 1/Q^6; 2) the conditions for the observation of the dipole dependence in the experiments has not yet been achieved; 3) since for quarks J^{δ,δ}_q ~ 1 and J^{-δ,δ}_q ~ \sqrtτ, then the dipole dependence is realized when τ>> 1 in the case when the quark transitions with spin-flip are dominate.

Pion transition form factor in the constituent quark model

We calculate the transition form factor of the neutral pion where one photon is virtual and another photon is real in the model where the light constituent quark mass and the quark-pion vertex are taken to be momentum independent. Radiative corrections to the lowest order triangle quark Feynman amplitude are calculated. The resummation of the lowest radiative corrections to the virtual photon vertex is done by applying the Sudakov exponential hypothesis. Using fitting parameters, the quark mass and the strong coupling constant, the results on the pion transition form factor are compared with existing data published by CELLO, CLEO, BaBar and Belle collaborations.

Radiative corrections for electron proton elastic scattering taking into account high orders and hard photon emission

We investigate the effect of high order radiative corrections in unpolarized electron proton elastic scattering and compare with the calculations at lowest order, which are usually applied to experimental data. Particular attention is devoted to the $ε$ dependence of radiative corrections, which is directly related to the electric proton form factor. We consider in particular the effects of the interference terms for soft and hard photon emission. Both quadratic amplitude describing the collinear emission along the scattered electron as well as the interference with the amplitudes of emission from the initial electron and the emission from protons are important in leading and next to leading approximation and they may compensate in particular kinematical conditions.

Two-pion production in electron-polarized proton scattering

The process of two pion production in the electron-polarized proton scattering is investigated. In the Weizsäcker-Williams approximation the differential spectral distributions and the spin-momentum correlations are considered. The spin correlation effects caused by $ρ$-meson widths are estimated to be of an order of several per cent. Both channels of the $π^+π^-$ and $π^+π^0$ creation are considered. The effects of intermediate excited baryons are not considered. The spectral distributions on pion energy fractions in polarized and unpolarized cases are presented analytically and numerically.

Annihilation of $\bar p+p\to e^++e^-+ π^0$ and $\bar p+p\to γ+ π^0$ through $ω$-meson intermediate state

The s-channel annihilation of proton and antiproton into a neutral pion and a real or virtual photon followed by lepton pair emission is studied. Such mechanism is expected to play a role at moderate values of the total energy $\sqrt{s}$, when the pion is emitted around $90^{\circ}$ in the center of mass. A fair comparison with the existing data is obtained taking into account scattering and annihilation channels. The cross section is calculated and numerical results are given in the kinematical range accessible in the PANDA experiment at FAIR.

Compilation and analysis of charge asymmetry measurements from electron and positron scattering on nucleon and nuclei

World data on the lepton-charge asymmetry in the elastic and inelastic lepton scattering off the proton and nuclei are compiled and discussed. After reviewing the published results, we compare the elastic data to a model calculation of the two-photon exchange mechanism. We show that the existing data do not provide any evidence for the two-photon contribution. At significance level 0.05 the data allow to exclude the two-photon exchange as an explanation for the difference between Rosenbluth and polarization measurements of proton electromagnetic form factors.

Leptonic tensor for hard photon emission in annihilation channel.Dirac tensor with heavy photon

For the large-angles hard photon emission by initial leptons in process of high energy annihilation of $e^+ e^- \to $ to hadrons the Dirac tensor is obtained, taking into account the lowest order radiative corrections. The case of large-angles emission of two hard photons by initial leptons is considered. This result is being completed by the kinematics case of collinear hard photons emission as well as soft virtual and real photons and can be used for construction of Monte-Carlo generators.

Parity violating Moller scattering asymmetry up to the two-loop level

The paper investigates contributions of $Z$, $W$ and $γ$ intermediate states to the parity-violating Moller scattering asymmetry up to two-loop level. Using the Yennie--Frautschi--Suura factorization form for amplitudes, we demonstrate that QED corrections, with an exception of vacuum-polarization effects, cancel at the asymmetry level. We obtain chiral amplitudes at Born, one-loop and partially at two-loop level: boxes with lepton self-energies, ladder boxes and decorated boxes. Our calculations are relevant for the ultra-precise 11 GeV MOLLER experiment planned at Jefferson Laboratory and future ILC experiments. The numerical comparision of the two-loop contributions with the experimental accuracy of MOLLER is provided.

Vector exchanges in production of light meson pairs and elementary atoms

The production of pseudoscalar and scalar mesons pairs and bound states (positronium or pionium atoms) in high energy $γγ$ collisions at high energies provided by photon or vector meson exchanges are considered. The vector exchanges lead to nondecreasing with energy cross section of binary process $γ+γ\to h_a+h_b$ with $h_a, h_b$ states in the fragmentation regions of initial particles. The production of light mesons pairs $ππ, ηη, η'η', σσ$ as well as a pairs of positronium $Ps$ and pionium $A_π$ atoms in peripheral kinematics are discussed. Unlike the photon exchange the vector meson exchange needs a reggeization, leading to fall with energy. Nevertheless due to peripheral kinematics out of very forward production angles the vector meson exchanges dominated. The proposed approach allows to express the matrix elements of the considered processes through impact factors, which can be calculated in perturbation models like Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) or Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model or determined from $γγ$ sub-processes or vector mesons radiative decay widths. We obtain the cross sections for pionium atom production in collisions of high energy pions and electrons with protons. The possibility to measure these processes in experiment are discussed.

Charge-odd correlation of lepton and pion pair production in electron-proton scattering

Charge-odd correlation of the charged pair components produced at electron-proton scattering can measure three current correlation averaged by proton state. In general these type correlation can be described by 14 structure functions. Radiative corrections to the spectra of heavy particles annihilation into leptons: Dark matter implementation

We calculate the radiative corrections to the annihilation of the Dark Matter particles into leptons. Lepton masses are taken into account. As the Dark Matter particles are considered both Dirac and Majorana fermions. We sum up all the leading logarithms contributions where it is possible. We show that in the Dirac fermion case the resulting cross-section is consistent with the renormalization group prediction: the cross-section have the Drell-Yan form. Whereas, in the Majorana fermions case we have two essentially different limits of the resulting cross-section and quantitively the answer strongly depends on a spectrum of the masses entering the problem.

Radiative decays of radially excited mesons ${π^0}'$, ${ρ^0}'$, $ω'$ in NJL model

Radiative decays $π^0({π^0}')\toγ+γ$, ${π^0}'\toρ^0(ω)+γ$, ${ρ^0}'(ω')\toπ^0+γ$, and ${ρ^0}'(ω')\to{π^0}'+γ$ are considered in the framework of the non-local SU(2)$\times$SU(2) NJL model. Radially excited mesons are described with the help of polynomial form factor $f({k^\bot}^2)$, where $k^\bot$ is the quark momentum transverse to the external meson momentum. In spite of mixing of the ground and excited meson states in this model, the decay widths of $π^0\toγ+γ$ and $ρ^0(ω)\toπ^0+γ$ are found to be in good agreement with experimental data as in the standard local NJL model. Similar results are presented for Compton subprocess with virtual photon. Contribution of emission of virtual, soft, and hard real additional photons are taken into account explicitly. Quark loop contribution to π^0 \to 4γ

We find the contribution of constituent quark loop mechanism to the branching ratio B_{4γ} = Γ_{4γ}/Γ_{4γ} \sim 5.45 \cdot 10^{-16} for the reasonable choice of constituent quark mass m \sim 280 MeV. This result is in agreement with vector-dominance approach result obtained years ago. Thus the main contribution arises from QED mechanism π^0 \to γ(γ^*) \to γ(3γ) including light-light scattering block with electron loop. This contribution was investigated in paper of one of us and gave B_{4γ} \sim 2.6 \cdot 10^{-11}.

Multiple exchanges in lepton pair production in high--energy heavy ion collisions

The recent analysis of nuclear distortions in DIS off nuclei revealed a breaking of the conventional hard factorization for multijet observable. The related pQCD analysis of distortion effects for jet production in nucleus-nucleus collisions is as yet lacking. As a testing ground for such an analysis we consider the Abelian problem of higher order Coulomb distortions of the spectrum of lepton pairs produced in peripheral nuclear collisions. We report an explicit calculation of the contribution to the lepton pair production in the collision of two photons from one nucleus with two photons from the other nucleus, $2γ+ 2γ\to \m{l}^+\m{l}^-$. The dependence of this amplitude on the transverse momenta has a highly nontrivial form the origin of which can be traced to the mismatch of the conservation of the Sudakov components for the momentum of leptons in the Coulomb field of the oppositely moving nuclei. The result suggests that the familiar eikonalization of Coulomb distortions breaks down for the oppositely moving Coulomb centers, which is bad news from the point of view of extensions to the pQCD treatment of jet production in nuclear collisions. On the other hand, we notice that the amplitude for the $2γ+ 2γ\to \m{l}^+\m{l}^-$ process has a logarithmic enhancement for the lepton pairs with large transverse momentum, which is absent for $nγ+ mγ\to \m{l}^+\m{l}^-$ processes with $m,n > 2$. We discuss the general structure of multiple exchanges and show how to deal with higher order terms which cannot be eikonalized.

We discussed the photoproduction of pair of charged particles $a\bar{a}\quad (a=e,μ,π)$ as well as the double photon emission processes off an electron accounting for the polarization of colliding particles. In the kinematics when all the particles can be considered as a massless, we obtain the compact analytical expressions for the differential cross sections of these processes. As the application of obtained results the special cases of production by circular and linear polarized photons are considered.

The lowest order inelastic QED processes at polarized photon-electron high energy collisions

The compact expressions for cross sections of photoproduction of a pair of charged particles $\mathrm{e}^+,\mathrm{e}^-$; $μ^+,μ^-$; $π^+,π^-$ as well as the double Compton scattering process are given. The explicit analytic expressions for the case of polarized photon and the initial electron in the kinematics when all the particles can be considered as a massless ones are presented. The photon polarization is described in the terms of Stokes parameters.

Multiple lepton pair production in relativistic ion collisions

We apply the Sudakov technique to description of the multiple production of lepton pairs in peripheral collisions of ultrarelativistic heavy ions. For heavy ions with $Z_1α\sim Z_2α\ll 1$ one needs a careful treatment of the multiple Coulomb exchange between colliding ions and screening effects, whereas interaction of real or virtual lepton pairs with colliding ions can be neglected. We demonstrate that while the inclusive spectra are modified by multiple Coulomb exchange between the colliding ions, the Coulomb corrections to the momentum integrated multiplicity distributions do vanish. After transformation to the impact parameter representation the probability of $n$ lepton pair production is shown to obey the Poisson distribution. The relevant cross section is obtained.

Process 3 -> 3 and crossing symmetry violation

Using the Sudakov technique we sum the perturbation series for the process $3\to 3$ and obtain the compact analytical expression for the amplitude of this process, which takes into account all possible Coulomb interactions between colliding particles. Compare it with the amplitude of the lepton pair production in heavy ion collision i.e. in the process $ 2\to 4$, we show that crossing symmetry between this processes holds only if one neglects the interaction of produced pair with ions (i.e. in the approximation $Z_{1,2}α\ll 1$).

The lepton pair production in heavy ion collisions in perturbation theory

We derive the first terms in the amplitude of lepton pair production in the Coulomb fields of two relativistic heavy ions. Using the Sudakov technique, which very simplify the calculations in momentum space for the processes at high energies, we get the compact analytical expressions for differential cross section of the process under consideration in the lowest order in fine structure constant (Born approximation) valid for any momentum transfer and in a wide kinematics region for produced particles. Exploiting the same technique we consider the next terms of perturbation series (up to fourth order in fine structure constant) and investigate their energy dependence and limiting cases. It has been shown that taking in account all relevant terms in corresponding order one obtains the expressions which are gauge invariant and finite. We estimate the contribution of the Coulomb corrections to the total cross section and discuss the cancellations of the different terms which holds in the total cross section.

Hadronic Cross Sections in Electron-Positron Annihilation with Tagged Photon

Events with tagged photons in the process of electron-positron annihilation into hadrons are considered. The initial state radiation is suggested to scan the hadronic cross section with the energy. QED radiative corrections are taken into account. The results for the total and exclusive cross sections are given in an analytic form. Some numerical estimates are presented.
