A Mechanism of Ultraviolet Naturalness

The Standard Model (SM), as the quantum field theory of the strong and electroweak interactions, needs be carried into curved spacetime to incorporate gravity. This is done here not for the full but for the effective SM action by integrating-in affine curvature. This approach leads to naturalization of the SM Higgs sector and reduction of the cosmological constant down to the neutrino scale thanks to the fact that quadratic (quartic) UV contributions to the Higgs boson mass (vacuum energy) turn into the Higgs-curvature coupling (the Einstein-Hilbert term). New physics beyond the SM, necessary for inducing gravity properly, does not have to interact with the SM. It can form a secluded sector to source non-interacting dark matter observable via only gravity, or a weakly-coupled sector to source dark matter and possible collider signals.

Curvature-Restored Gauge Invariance and Ultraviolet Naturalness

It is shown that, $(a Λ^2 + b |H|^2)R$ in a spacetime of curvature $R$ is a natural ultraviolet $(U\!V)$ completion of $(a Λ^4 + b Λ^2 |H|^2)$ in the flat-spacetime Standard Model $(S\!M)$ with Higgs field $H$, $U\!V$ scale $Λ$ and loop factors $a$, $b$. This curvature completion rests on the fact that a $Λ$-mass gauge theory in flat spacetime turns, on the cut-view $R = 4 Λ^2$, into a massless gauge theory in curved spacetime. It provides a symmetry reason for curved spacetime, wherein gravity and matter are both low-energy effective phenomena. Gravity arises correctly if new physics exists with at least 63 more bosons than fermions, with no need to interact with the $S\!M$ and with dark matter as a natural harbinger. It can source various cosmological, astrophysical and collider phenomena depending on its spectrum and couplings to the $S\!M$.

Higgsed Stueckelberg Vector and Higgs Quadratic Divergence

Here we show that, a hidden vector field whose gauge invariance is ensured by a Stueckelberg scalar and whose mass is spontaneously generated by the Standard Model Higgs field contributes to quadratic divergences in the Higgs boson mass squared, and even leads to its cancellation at one-loop when Higgs coupling to gauge field is fine-tuned. In contrast to mechanisms based on hidden scalars where a complete cancellation cannot be achieved, stabilization here is complete in that the hidden vector and the accompanying Stueckelberg scalar are both free from quadratic divergences at one-loop. This stability, deriving from hidden exact gauge invariance, can have important implications for modelling dark phenomena like dark matter, dark energy, dark photon and neutrino masses. The hidden fields can be produced at the LHC.

Relativistic MOND from Modified Energetics

We begin to investigate the question of what modifications in energy-momentum tensor can yield correct MOND regime. As a starting study, we refrain from insisting on an action principle and focus exclusively on the equations of motion. The present work, despite the absence of an explicit action functional, can be regarded to extend Milgrom's modified inertia approach to relativistic domain. Our results show that a proper MOND limit arises if energy-momentum tensor is modified to involve determinant of the metric tensor in reference to the flat metric, where the latter is dynamically generated as in gravitational Higgs mechanism. This modified energy-momentum tensor is conserved in both Newtonian and MONDian regimes.

Stop on Top: SUSY Parameter Regions, Fine-Tuning Constraints

We analyze minimal supersymmetric models in order to determine in what parameter regions with what amount of fine-tuning they are capable of accomodating the LHC-allowed top-stop degeneracy window. The stops must be light enough to enable Higgs naturalness yet heavy enough to induce a 125 GeV Higgs boson mass. These two constraints imply a large mass splitting. By an elaborate scan of the parameter space, we show that stop-on-top scenario requires at least Delta_CMSSM ~ O(10^4) fine-tuning in the CMSSM. By relaxing the CMSSM parameter space with nonuniversal Higgs masses, we find that Delta_NUHM1 ~ O(10^4). The CMSSM with gravitino LSP works slightly better than the NUHM1 model. Compared to all these, the CMSSM with mu<0 and nonuniversal gauginos yield a much smaller fine-tuning Delta_{mu,g} ~ O(100). Our results show that gaugino sector can pave the road towards a more natural stop-on-top scenario.

Tunneling in Polymer Quantization and the Quantum Zeno Effect

As an application of the polymer quantization scheme, in this work we investigate the one dimensional quantum mechanical tunneling phenomenon from the perspective of polymer representation of a non-relativistic point particle and derive the transmission and reflection coefficients. Since any tunneling phenomenon inevitably evokes a tunneling time we attempt an analytical calculation of tunneling times by defining an operator well suited in discrete spatial geometry. The results that we come up with hint at appearance of the Quantum Zeno Effect in polymer framework.
