Invertible and isometric weighted composition operators

We consider abstract Banach spaces of analytic functions on general bounded domains that satisfy only a minimum number of axioms. We describe all invertible (equivalently, surjective) weighted composition operators acting on such spaces. For the spaces of analytic functions in the disk whose norm is given in terms of a natural seminorm (such as the typical spaces given in terms of derivatives), we describe all surjective weighted composition operators that are isometric. This generalizes a number of known results.

Weighted composition operators in functional Banach spaces: an axiomatic approach

We work with very general Banach spaces of analytic functions in the disk or other domains which satisfy a minimum number of natural axioms. Among the preliminary results, we discuss some implications of the basic axioms and identify all functional Banach spaces in which every bounded analytic function is a pointwise multiplier. Next, we characterize (in various ways) the weighted composition operators among the bounded operators on such spaces, thus generalizing some well-known results on multiplication or composition operators. We also characterize the invertible weighted composition operators on the disk and on general Banach spaces of analytic functions on bounded domains under different sets of axioms whose connections we discuss by providing appropriate examples. This generalizes and complements various recent results by Gunatillake, Bourdon, and Hyvärinen-Lindström-Nieminen-Saukko.

The multiplicative Hilbert matrix

It is observed that the infinite matrix with entries $(\sqrt{mn}\log (mn))^{-1}$ for $m, n\ge 2$ appears as the matrix of the integral operator $\mathbf{H}f(s):=\int_{1/2}^{+\infty}f(w)(ζ(w+s)-1)dw$ with respect to the basis $(n^{-s})_{n\ge 2}$; here $ζ(s)$ is the Riemann zeta function and $H$ is defined on the Hilbert space ${\mathcal H}^2_0$ of Dirichlet series vanishing at $+\infty$ and with square-summable coefficients. This infinite matrix defines a multiplicative Hankel operator according to Helson's terminology or, alternatively, it can be viewed as a bona fide (small) Hankel operator on the infinite-dimensional torus ${\Bbb T}^{\infty}$. By analogy with the standard integral representation of the classical Hilbert matrix, this matrix is referred to as the multiplicative Hilbert matrix. It is shown that its norm equals $π$ and that it has a purely continuous spectrum which is the interval $[0,π]$; these results are in agreement with known facts about the classical Hilbert matrix. It is shown that the matrix $(m^{1/p} n^{(p-1)/p}\log (mn))^{-1}$ has norm $π/\sin(π/p)$ when acting on $\ell^p$ for $1<p<\infty$. However, the multiplicative Hilbert matrix fails to define a bounded operator on ${\mathcal H}^p_0$ for $p\neq 2$, where ${\mathcal H}^p_0$ are $H^p$ spaces of Dirichlet series. It remains an interesting problem to decide whether the analytic symbol $\sum_{n\ge 2} (\log n)^{-1} n^{-s-1/2}$ of the multiplicative Hilbert matrix arises as the Riesz projection of a bounded function on the infinite-dimensional torus ${\Bbb T}^\infty$.

On the generalized Zalcman functional for some classes of univalent functions

We prove three sharp estimates for the generalized Zalcman coefficient functional: one for the Hurwitz class, another for the Noshiro-Warschawski class, and yet another for the functions in the closed convex hull of convex univalent functions. In each case the extremal functions are identified. We also observe that an asymptotic version of the Zalcman conjecture is true.

The Krzyż conjecture revisited

The Krzyż conjecture concerns the largest values of the Taylor coefficients of a non-vanishing analytic function bounded by one in modulus in the unit disk. It has been open since 1968 even though information on the structure of extremal functions is available. The purpose of this paper is to collect various conditions that the coefficients of an extremal function (and various other quantities associated with it) should satisfy if the conjecture is true and to show that each one of these properties is equivalent to the conjecture itself. This may provide several possible starting points for future attempts at solving the problem.

Holomorphic self-maps of the disk intertwining two linear fractional maps

We characterize (in almost all cases) the holomorphic self-maps of the unit disk that intertwine two given linear fractional self-maps of the disk. The proofs are based on iteration and a careful analysis of the Denjoy-Wolff points. In particular, we characterize the maps that commute with a given linear fractional map (in the cases that are not already known) and, as an application, determine all "roots" of such maps in the sense of iteration (if any). This yields as a byproduct a short proof of a recent theorem on the embedding of a linear fractional transformation into a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of the disk.

On Blaschke products with derivatives in Bergman spaces with normal weights

We generalize a well-known sufficient condition for interpolating sequences for the Hilbert Bergman spaces to other Bergman spaces with normal weights (as defined by Shields and Williams) and obtain new results regarding the membership of the derivative of a Blashke product or a general inner function in such spaces. We also apply duality techniques to obtain further results of this type and obtain new results about interpolating Blaschke products.
