Linear perturbations of the Wigner transform and the Weyl quantization

We study a class of quadratic time-frequency representations that, roughly speaking, are obtained by linear perturbations of the Wigner transform. They satisfy Moyal's formula by default and share many other properties with the Wigner transform, but in general they do not belong to Cohen's class. We provide a characterization of the intersection of the two classes. To any such time-frequency representation, we associate a pseudodifferential calculus. We investigate the related quantization procedure, study the properties of the pseudodifferential operators, and compare the formalism with that of the Weyl calculus.

The $α$-Modulation Transform: Admissibility, Coorbit Theory and Frames of Compactly Supported Functions

The $α$-modulation transform is a time-frequency transform generated by square-integrable representations of the affine Weyl-Heisenberg group modulo suitable subgroups. In this paper we prove new conditions that guarantee the admissibility of a given window function. We also show that the generalized coorbit theory can be applied to this setting, assuming specific regularity of the windows. This then yields canonical constructions of Banach frames and atomic decompositions in $α$-modulation spaces. In particular, we prove the existence of compactly supported (in time domain) vectors that are admissible and satisfy all conditions within the coorbit machinery, which considerably go beyond known results.

The Pole Behaviour of the Phase Derivative of the Short-Time Fourier Transform

The short-time Fourier transform (STFT) is a time-frequency representation widely used in applications, for example in audio signal processing. Recently it has been shown that not only the amplitude, but also the phase of this representation can be successfully exploited for improved analysis and processing. In this paper we describe a rather peculiar pole phenomenon in the phase derivative, a recurring pattern that appears in a characteristic way in the neighborhood around any of the zeros of the STFT, a negative peak followed by a positive one. We describe this phenomenon numerically and provide a complete analytical explanation.

Admissibility for $α$-Modulation Spaces

This paper is concerned with frame decompositions of $α$-modulation spaces. These spaces can be obtained as coorbit spaces for square-integrable representations of the affine Weyl-Heisenberg group modulo suitable subgroups. The theory yields canonical constructions for Banach frames or atomic decompositions in $α$-modulation spaces. A necessary ingredient in this abstract machinery is the existence of generating functions that are admissible for the representation. For numerical purposes, admissible atoms with compact support are necessary. We show new admissibility conditions that considerably improve upon known results. In particular, we prove the existence of admissible vectors that have compact support in time domain.

Multipliers for Continuous Frames in Hilbert Spaces

In this paper we examine the general theory of continuous frame multipliers in Hilbert space. These operators are a generalization of the widely used notion of (discrete) frame multipliers. Well-known examples include Anti-Wick operators, STFT multipliers or Calderón- Toeplitz operators. Due to the possible peculiarities of the underlying measure spaces, continuous frames do not behave quite as well as their discrete counterparts. Nonetheless, many results similar to the discrete case are proven for continuous frame multipliers as well, for instance compactness and Schatten class properties. Furthermore, the concepts of controlled and weighted frames are transferred to the continuous setting.
