Experimental signatures of versatile Weyl semimetal in pyrochlore iridate with spin-ice like magnetic orders

We report experimental signatures of topological transitions among the Weyl semimetal states of pyrochlore Pr2Ir2O7, where the Kondo coupling between the Ir topological electrons and the spin-ice like orders of Pr moments plays a decisive role. The magnetic-field dependence of resistivity and the Hall conductivity exhibits a plateau and a sharp jump associated with a magnetic-field hysteresis, similar to a liquid-gas-like transition in dipolar spin ice system. Furthermore, the Kondo coupling is controlled by the hydrostatic pressure, revealing that the field-induced displacement of Weyl points in the momentum space strongly depends on the respective electronic state as well as on the Kondo coupling strength. These observations pave a route toward the engineering of band topology in hybrid quantum materials with relativistic conduction electrons and localized magnetic moments.

Quantum Hall Effect in Ultrahigh Mobility Two-dimensional Hole Gas of Black Phosphorus

We demonstrate that a field effect transistor (FET) made of few layer black phosphorus (BP) encapsulated in hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) in vacuum, exhibts the room temperature hole mobility of 5200 $cm^2/Vs$ being limited just by the phonon scattering. At cryogenic tempeature the FET mobility increases up to 45,000 $cm^2/Vs$, which is eight times higher compared with the mobility obtained in earlier reports. The unprecedentedly clean h-BN/BP/h-BN heterostructure exhibits Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations and quantum Hall effect with Landau level (LL) filling factors down to v=2 in conventional laboratory magnetic fields. Moreover, carrier density independent effective mass m=0.26 m_0 is measured, and Lande g-factor g=2.47 is reported. Furthermore, an indication for a distinct hole transport behavior with up and down spin orientation is found.

Temperature dependent magnetotransport around $ν$= 1/2 in ZnO heterostructures

The sequence of prominent fractional quantum Hall states up to $ν$=5/11 around $ν$=1/2 in a high mobility two-dimensional electron system confined at oxide heterointerface (ZnO) is analyzed in terms of the composite fermion model. The temperature dependence of $\Rxx$ oscillations around $ν$=1/2 yields an estimation of the composite fermion effective mass, which increases linearly with the magnetic field. This mass is of similar value to an enhanced electron effective mass, which in itself arises from strong electron interaction. The energy gaps of fractional states and the temperature dependence of $\Rxx$ at $ν$=1/2 point to large residual interactions between composite fermions.
