The Frankel property for self-shrinkers from the viewpoint of elliptic PDE's

We show that two properly embedded self-shrinkers in Euclidean space that are sufficiently separated at infinity must intersect at a finite point. The proof is based on a localized version of the Reilly formula applied to a suitable f-harmonic function with controlled gradient. In the immersed case, a new direct proof of the generalized half-space property is also presented.

Rigidity and gap results for low index properly immersed self--shrinkers in $\mathbb{R}^{m+1}$

In this paper we show that the only properly immersed self--shrinkers $Σ$ in $\mathbb{R}^{m+1}$ with Morse index $1$ are the hyperplanes through the origin. Moreover, we prove that if $Σ$ is not a hyperplane through the origin then the index jumps and it is at least $m+2$, with equality if and only if $Σ$ is a cylinder $\mathbb{R}^{m-k}\times \mathbb{S}^{k}(\sqrt{k})$ for some $1\leq k\leq m-1$.

Global maximum principles and divergence theorems on complete manifolds with boundary

In this paper we extend to non-compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary the use of two important tools in the geometric analysis of compact spaces, namely, the weak maximum principle for subharmonic functions and the integration by parts. The first one is a new form of the classical Ahlfors maximum principle whereas the second one is a version for manifolds with boundary of the so called Kelvin-Nevanlinna-Royden criterion of parabolicity. In fact, we will show that the validity of non-compact versions of these tools serve as a characterization of the Neumann parabolicity of the space. The motivation underlying this study is to obtain new information on the geometry of graphs with prescribed mean curvature inside a Riemannian product of the type $N\times\mathbb{R}$. In this direction two kind of results will be presented: height estimates for constant mean curvature graphs parametrized over unbounded domains in a complete manifold and slice type results for graphs whose superlevel sets have finite volume.

Comparison Theorems in Lorentzian Geometry and applications to spacelike hypersurfaces

In this paper we prove Hessian and Laplacian comparison theorems for the Lorentzian distance function in a spacetime with sectional (or Ricci) curvature bounded by a certain function by means of a comparison criterion for Riccati equations. Using these results, under suitable conditions, we are able to obtain some estimates on the higher order mean curvatures of spacelike hypersurfaces satisfying a Omori-Yau maximum principle for certain elliptic operators.

Spacelike hypersurfaces of constant higher order mean curvature in generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes

In this paper we analyze the problem of uniqueness for spacelike hypersurfaces with constant higher order mean curvature in generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes. We consider first the case of compact spacelike hypersurfaces, completing some previous results given in [2]. We next extend these results to the complete noncompact case. In that case, our approach is based on the use of a generalized version of the Omori-Yau maximum principle for trace type differential operators, recently given in [3].

Some geometric properties of hypersurfaces with constant $r$-mean curvature in Euclidean space

Let $f:M\ra \erre^{m+1}$ be an isometrically immersed hypersurface. In this paper, we exploit recent results due to the authors in \cite{bimari} to analyze the stability of the differential operator $L_r$ associated with the $r$-th Newton tensor of $f$. This appears in the Jacobi operator for the variational problem of minimizing the $r$-mean curvature $H_r$. Two natural applications are found. The first one ensures that, under the mild condition that the integral of $H_r$ over geodesic spheres grows sufficiently fast, the Gauss map meets each equator of $\esse^m$ infinitely many times. The second one deals with hypersurfaces with zero $(r+1)$-mean curvature. Under similar growth assumptions, we prove that the affine tangent spaces $f_*T_pM$, $p\in M$, fill the whole $\erre^{m+1}$.
