Fluctuating relativistic dissipative hydrodynamics as a gauge theory

We argue that different formulations of hydrodynamics are related to uncertainties in the definitions of local thermodynamic and hydrodynamic variables. We show that this ambiguity can be resolved by viewing different formulations of hydrodynamics as particular "gauge choices" which lead to the same physical behavior of the system. Using the example of bulk viscosity, we show that Bemfica-Disconzi-Noronha-Kovtun (BDNK) and Israel-Stewart hydrodynamics are particular "gauge choices" of this type, related by a well-defined transformation of thermodynamic and hydrodynamic variables. We argue that this gauge ambiguity is necessary to ascertain the causality of stochastic hydrodynamic evolution and conjecture that it could explain the applicability of hydrodynamics outside its expected regime of validity since far from equilibrium and close to equilibrium may be related through transformations of this type.

Generalized quantum electrodynamics: one-loop correction

In this paper, we give an update on divergent problems concerning the radiative corrections of quantum electrodynamics in $(3+1)$ dimensions. In doing so, we introduce a geometric adaptation for the covariant photon propagator by including a higher derivative field. This derivation, so-called generalized quantum electrodynamics, is motivated by the stability and unitarity features. This theory provides a natural and self-consistent extension of the quantum electrodynamics by enlarging the space parameter of spinor-gauge interactions. In particular, Haag$'$s theorem undermines the perturbative characterization of the interaction picture due to its inconsistency on quantum field theory foundations. To circumvent this problem, we develop our perturbative approach in the Heisenberg picture and use it to investigate the behavior of the operator current at $1$-loop. We find the $2$- and $3$-point correlation functions are ultraviolet finite, electron self-energy and vertex corrections, respectively. On the other hand, we also explain how the vacuum polarization remains ultraviolet divergent only at $e^2$ order. Finally, we evaluate the anomalous magnetic moment, which allows us to specify a lower bound value for the Podolsky parameter.

Planar generalized electrodynamics for one-loop amplitude in the Heisenberg picture

We examine the generalized quantum electrodynamics as a natural extension of the Maxwell electrodynamics to cure the one-loop divergence. We establish a precise scenario to discuss the underlying features between photon and fermion where the perturbative Maxwell electrodynamics fails. Our quantum model combines stability, unitarity, and gauge invariance as the central properties. To interpret the quantum fluctuations without suffering from the physical conflicts proved by Haag's theorem, we construct the covariant quantization in the Heisenberg picture instead of the Interaction one. Furthermore, we discuss the absence of anomalous magnetic moment and mass-shell singularity.

Vacuum Polarization of Generalized Quantum Electrodynamics in the Heisenberg Picture

In this work, we consider the generalized quantum electrodynamics proposed by Podolsky in Heisenberg picture via Kallen methodology. We investigate the effects of higher-order derivatives to understand the qualitative and quantitative aspects of vacuum polarization. In addition, the most general structure of induced current and polarization tensor that emerge naturally by a perturbative scheme "a la" Kallen is also obtained. Afterward, we discuss the physical implication of charge renormalization in the perspective of unitary and stable Podolsky theory.

Linear response theory of relativistic hydrodynamics with spin

We use linear response techniques to develop the previously proposed relativistic ideal fluid limit with a non-negligible spin density. We confirm previous results and obtain expressions for the microscopic transport coefficients using Kubo-like formulae and buld up the effective field theory from the computed correlation functions. We also confirm that polarization makes vortices aquire an effective mass via a mechanism similar to the Anderson-Higgs mechanism in superconductors. As speculated earlier, this could stabilize the ideal hydrodynamic limit against fluctuation-driven vortices

Møller scattering in $2 + 1$ of generalized quantum electrodynamics in the heisenberg picture

In this paper, we investigate from the framework of generalized electrodynamics the differential cross section of the electron-electron scattering process $e^- e^- \rightarrow e^- e^-$, i.e., Møller scattering, in $(2+1)$ dimensions in the Heisenberg picture. To this goal, one starts within the stable and unitary framework of planar generalized electrodynamics, instead of Maxwell one. We argue the Haag's theorem strongly suggests the study of the differential cross section in the Heisenberg representation. Afterward, we explore the influence of Podolsky mass cutoff and calculate the differential cross section considering data based on condensed matter systems.

A Lagrangian formulation of relativistic Israel-Stewart hydrodynamics

We rederive relativistic hydrodynamics as a Lagrangian effective theory using the doubled coordinates technique, allowing us to include dissipative terms. We include Navier-Stokes shear and bulk terms, as well as Israel-Stewart relaxation time terms, within this formalism. We show how the inclusion of shear viscosity, and the requirement of a bounded energy-momentum "vacuum", forces the inclusion of the Israel-Stewart term into the theory, thereby providing a justification for the origin and uniqueness of these terms.
