The Integrability of Negative Powers of the Solution of the Saint Venant Problem

We initiate the study of the finiteness condition ∫Ωu(x)−β dx≤C(Ω,β)<+∞\int_Ωu(x)^{-β}\,dx\leq C(Ω,β)<+\infty where Ω⊆RnΩ\subseteq{\mathbb{R}}^n is an open set and uu is the solution of the Saint Venant problem Δu=−1Δu=-1 in ΩΩ, u=0u=0 on ∂Ω\partialΩ. The central issue which we address is that of determining the range of values of the parameter β>0β>0 for which the aforementioned condition holds under various hypotheses on the smoothness of ΩΩ and demands on the nature of the constant C(Ω,β)C(Ω,β). Classes of domains for which our analysis applies include bounded piecewise C1C^1 domains in Rn{\mathbb{R}}^n, n≥2n\geq 2, with conical singularities (in particular polygonal domains in the plane), polyhedra in R3{\mathbb{R}}^3, and bounded domains which are locally of class C2C^2 and which have (finitely many) outwardly pointing cusps. For example, we show that if uNu_N is the solution of the Saint Venant problem in the regular polygon ΩNΩ_N with NN sides circumscribed by the unit disc in the plane, then for each β∈(0,1)β\in(0,1) the following asymptotic formula holds: % {eqnarray*} \int_{Ω_N}u_N(x)^{-β}\,dx=\frac{4^βπ}{1-β} +{\mathcal{O}}(N^{β-1})\quad{as}\,\,N\to\infty. {eqnarray*} % One of the original motivations for addressing the aforementioned issues was the study of sublevel set estimates for functions vv satisfying v(0)=0v(0)=0, ∇v(0)=0\nabla v(0)=0 and Δv≥c>0Δv\geq c>0.

Multilinear pseudodifferential operators beyond Calderón-Zygmund theory

We consider two types of multilinear pseudodifferential operators. First, we prove the boundedness of multilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols which are only measurable in the spatial variables in weighted Lebesgue spaces. These results generalise earlier work of the present authors concerning linear pseudo-pseudodifferential operators. Secondly, we investigate the boundedness of bilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols in the Hörmander Sρ,δmS^{m}_{ρ, δ} classes. These results are new in the case ρ<1ρ< 1, that is, outwith the scope of multilinear Calderón-Zygmund theory.

On the boundedness of certain bilinear Fourier integral operators

We prove the global L2×L2→L1L^2 \times L^2 \to L^1 boundedness of bilinear Fourier integral operators with amplitudes in S1,00(n,2)S^0_{1,0} (n,2). To achieve this, we require that the phase function can be written as $(x,ξ,η) \mapsto \phase_1(x,ξ) + \phase_2(x,η)$ where each $\phase_j$ belongs to the class Φ2Φ^2 and satisfies the strong non-degeneracy condition. This result extends that of R. Coifman and Y. Meyer regarding pseudodifferential operators to the case of Fourier integral operators.
