Analysis on quasidisks; a unified approach through transmission and jump problems

We give an exposition of results from a crossroad between geometric function theory, harmonic analysis, boundary value problems and approximation theory, which characterize quasicircles. We will specifically expose the interplay between the jump decomposition, singular integral operators and approximation by Faber series. Our unified point of view is made possible by the the concept of transmission.

Local and global estimates for hyperbolic equations in Besov-Lipschitz and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces

In this paper we establish optimal local and global Besov-Lipschitz and Triebel-Lizorkin estimates for the solutions to linear hyperbolic partial differential equations. These estimates are based on local and global estimates for Fourier integral operators that span all possible scales (and in particular both Banach and quasi-Banach scales) of Besov-Lipschitz spaces Bp,qs(Rn)B^s_{p,q}(\R^n), and certain Banach and quasi-Banach scales of Triebel-Lizorkin spaces Fp,qs(Rn)F^s_{p,q}(\R^n)

Transmission of harmonic functions through quasicircles on compact Riemann surfaces

Let RR be a compact surface and let ΓΓ be a Jordan curve which separates RR into two connected components Σ1Σ_1 and Σ2Σ_2. A harmonic function h1h_1 on Σ1Σ_1 of bounded Dirichlet norm has boundary values HH in a certain conformally invariant non-tangential sense on ΓΓ. We show that if ΓΓ is a quasicircle, then there is a unique harmonic function h2h_2 of bounded Dirichlet norm on Σ2Σ_2 whose boundary values agree with those of h1h_1. Furthermore, the resulting map from the Dirichlet space of Σ1Σ_1 into Σ2Σ_2 is bounded with respect to the Dirichlet semi-norm.

Harmonic reflection in quasicircles and well-posedness of a Riemann-Hilbert problem on quasidisks

A complex harmonic function of finite Dirichlet energy on a Jordan domain has boundary values in a certain conformally invariant sense, by a construction of H. Osborn. We call the set of such boundary values the Douglas-Osborn space. One may then attempt to solve the Dirichlet problem on the complement for these boundary values. This defines a reflection of harmonic functions. We show that quasicircles are precisely those Jordan curves for which this reflection is defined and bounded. We then use a limiting Cauchy integral along level curves of Green's function to show that the Plemelj-Sokhotski jump formula holds on quasicircles with boundary data in the Douglas-Osborn space. This enables us to prove the well-posedness of a Riemann-Hilbert problem with boundary data in the Douglas-Osborn space on quasicircles.

A convergent Weil-Petersson metric on the Teichmüller space of bordered Riemann surfaces

Let ΣΣ be a Riemann surface of genus gg bordered by nn curves homeomorphic to the circle S1\mathbb{S}^1, and assume that 2g+2−n>02g+2-n>0. For such bordered Riemann surfaces, the authors have previously defined a Teichmüller space which is a Hilbert manifold and which is holomorphically included in the standard Teichmüller space. Based on this, we present alternate models of the aforementioned Teichmüller space and show in particular that it is locally modelled on a Hilbert space of L2L^2 Beltrami differentials, which are holomorphic up to a power of the hyperbolic metric, and has a convergent Weil-Petersson metric.

A Seeger-Sogge-Stein theorem for bilinear Fourier integral operators

We establish the regularity of bilinear Fourier integral operators with bilinear amplitudes in S1,0m(n,2)S^m_{1,0} (n,2) and non-degenerate phase functions, from Lp×Lq→LrL^p \times L^q \to L^r under the assumptions that m≤−(n−1)(∣1p−12∣+∣1q−12∣)m\leq -(n-1)(|\frac{1}{p}-\frac{1}{2}|+|\frac{1}{q}-\frac{1}{2}|) and 1p+1q=1r\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1}{r}. This is a bilinear version of the classical theorem of Seeger-Sogge-Stein concerning the LpL^p boundedness of linear Fourier integral operators. Moreover, our result goes beyond the aforementioned theorem in that it also includes the case of non-Banach target spaces.

Dirichlet space of multiply connected domains with Weil-Petersson class boundaries

The restricted class of quasicircles sometimes called the "Weil-Petersson-class" has been a subject of interest in the last decade. In this paper we establish a Sokhotski-Plemelj jump formula for WP-class quasicircles, for boundary data in a certain conformally invariant Besov space. We show that this Besov space is precisely the set of traces on the boundary of harmonic functions of finite Dirichlet energy on the WP-class quasidisk. We apply this result to multiply connected domains, Sigma, which are the complement of n+1 WP-class quasidisks. Namely, we give a bounded isomorphism between the Dirichlet space D(Sigma) of Sigma and a direct sum of Dirichlet spaces, D-, of the unit disk. Writing the quasidisks as images of the disk under conformal maps (f_0,...,f_n), we also show that {(h \circ f_0,...,h \circ f_n) : h \in D(Sigma)} is the graph of a certain bounded Grunsky operator on D-.

Estimates for rough Fourier integral and pseudodifferential operators and applications to the boundedness of multilinear operators

We study the boundedness of rough Fourier integral and pseudodifferential operators, defined by general rough Hörmander class amplitudes, on Banach and quasi-Banach LpL^p spaces. Thereafter we apply the aforementioned boundedness in order to improve on some of the existing boundedness results for Hörmander class bilinear pseudodifferential operators and certain classes of bilinear (as well as multilinear) Fourier integral operators. For these classes of amplitudes, the boundedness of the aforementioned Fourier integral operators turn out to be sharp. Furthermore we also obtain results for rough multilinear operators.

A Hilbert manifold structure on the refined Teichmueller space of bordered Riemann surfaces

We consider bordered Riemann surfaces which are biholomorphic to compact Riemann surfaces of genus g with n regions biholomorphic to the disc removed. We define a refined Teichmueller space of such Riemann surfaces and demonstrate that in the case that 2g+2-n>0, this refined Teichmueller space is a Hilbert manifold. The inclusion map from the refined Teichmueller space into the usual Teichmueller space (which is a Banach manifold) is holomorphic. We also show that the rigged moduli space of Riemann surfaces with non-overlapping holomorphic maps, appearing in conformal field theory, is a complex Hilbert manifold. This result requires an analytic reformulation of the moduli space, by enlarging the set of non-overlapping mappings to a class of maps intermediate between analytically extendible maps and quasiconformally extendible maps. Finally we show that the rigged moduli space is the quotient of the refined Teichmueller space by a properly discontinuous group of biholomorphisms.

Multilinear pseudodifferential operators beyond Calderón-Zygmund theory

We consider two types of multilinear pseudodifferential operators. First, we prove the boundedness of multilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols which are only measurable in the spatial variables in weighted Lebesgue spaces. These results generalise earlier work of the present authors concerning linear pseudo-pseudodifferential operators. Secondly, we investigate the boundedness of bilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols in the Hörmander Sρ,δmS^{m}_{ρ, δ} classes. These results are new in the case ρ<1ρ< 1, that is, outwith the scope of multilinear Calderón-Zygmund theory.

Global and local regularity of Fourier integral operators on weighted and unweighted spaces

We investigate the global continuity on LpL^p spaces with p∈[1,∞]p\in [1,\infty] of Fourier integral operators with smooth and rough amplitudes and/or phase functions subject to certain non-degeneracy conditions. We initiate the investigation of the continuity of smooth and rough Fourier integral operators on weighted LpL^{p} spaces, LwpL_{w}^p with 1<p<∞1< p < \infty and w∈Ap,w\in A_{p}, (i.e. the Muckenhoput weights), and establish weighted norm inequalities for operators with rough and smooth amplitudes and phase functions satisfying a suitable rank condition. These results are then applied to prove weighted and unweighted estimates for the commutators of Fourier integral operators with functions of bounded mean oscillation BMO, then to some estimates on weighted Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, and finally to global unweighted and local weighted estimates for the solutions of the Cauchy problem for mm-th and second order hyperbolic partial differential equations on Rn.\mathbf{R}^n .

Global boundedness of multilinear Fourier integral operators

We study the global boundedness of bilinear and multilinear Fourier integral operators on Banach and quasi-Banach LpL^p spaces, where the amplitudes of the operators are smooth or rough in the spatial variables. The results are obtained by proving suitable global boundedness of rough linear Fourier integral operators with amplitudes that behave as LpL^{p} functions in the spatial variables. The bilinear and multilinear boundedness estimates are proven by using either an iteration procedure or decomposition of the amplitudes, and thereafter applying our global results for linear Fourier integral operators with rough amplitudes.

On the boundedness of certain bilinear Fourier integral operators

We prove the global L2×L2→L1L^2 \times L^2 \to L^1 boundedness of bilinear Fourier integral operators with amplitudes in S1,00(n,2)S^0_{1,0} (n,2). To achieve this, we require that the phase function can be written as $(x,ξ,η) \mapsto \phase_1(x,ξ) + \phase_2(x,η)$ where each $\phase_j$ belongs to the class Φ2Φ^2 and satisfies the strong non-degeneracy condition. This result extends that of R. Coifman and Y. Meyer regarding pseudodifferential operators to the case of Fourier integral operators.
