Non-linear Morse-Bott functions on quaternionic Stiefel manifolds

In the Stiefel manifold $X_{n,k}$, we replace Frankel linear height function by a quadratic one. We prove this is still a Morse-Bott function, whose structure of critical levels presents a dichotomy according to the sign of $n-2k$. The critical submanifolds are no longer Grassmannians but total spaces of fibrations of basis a product of two Grassmannians. We explicitly integrate the gradient flow.

Blown-up intersection cochains and Deligne's sheaves

In a series of papers the authors introduced the so-called blown-up intersection cochains. These cochains are suitable to study products and cohomology operations of intersection cohomology of stratified spaces. The aim of this paper is to prove that the sheaf versions of the functors of blown-up intersection cochains are realizations of Deligne's sheaves. This proves that Deligne's sheaves can be incarnated at the level of complexes of sheaves by soft sheaves of perverse differential graded algebras. We also study Poincaré and Verdier dualities of blown-up intersections sheaves with the use of Borel-Moore chains of intersection.

Relative singular value decomposition and applications to LS-category

Let $Sp(n)$ be the symplectic group of quaternionic $(n\times n)$-matrices. For any $1\leq k\leq n$, an element $A$ of $Sp(n)$ can be decomposed in $A= \begin{bmatrix} α&T\cr β&P \end{bmatrix}$ with $P$ a $(k\times k)$-matrix. In this work, starting from a singular value decomposition of $P$, we obtain what we call a relative singular value decomposition of $A$. This feature is well adapted for the study of the quaternionic Stiefel manifold $X_{n,k}$, and we apply it to the determination of the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category of $Sp(k)$ in $X_{2k-j,k}$, for $j= 0,\,1,\,2$

Variations on Poincaré duality for intersection homology

Intersection homology with coefficients in a field restores Poincaré duality for some spaces with singularities, as pseudomanifolds. But, with coefficients in a ring, the behaviours of manifolds and pseudomanifolds are different. This work is an overview, with proofs and explicit examples, of various possible situations with their properties. We first set up a duality, defined from a cap product, between two intersection cohomologies: the first one arises from a linear dual and the second one from a simplicial blow up. Moreover, from this property, Poincaré duality in intersection homology looks like the Poincaré-Lefschetz duality of a manifold with boundary. Besides that, an investigation of the coincidence of the two previous cohomologies reveals that the only obstruction to the existence of a Poincaré duality is the homology of a well defined complex. This recovers the case of the peripheral sheaf introduced by Goresky and Siegel for compact PL-pseudomanifolds. We also list a series of explicit computations of peripheral intersection cohomology. In particular, we observe that Poincaré duality can exist in the presence of torsion in the "critical degree" of the intersection homology of the links of a pseudomanifold.

Lie models of simplicial sets and representability of the Quillen functor

Extending the model of the interval, we explicitly define for each $n\ge 0$ a free complete differential graded Lie algebra $\mathfrak{L}_n$ generated by the simplices of $Δ^n$, with desuspended degrees, in which the vertices are Maurer-Cartan elements and the differential extends the simplicial chain complex of the standard $n$-simplex. The family $\{\mathfrak{L}_\bullet\}_{n\ge 0}$ is endowed with a cosimplicial differential graded Lie algebra structure which we use to construct a pair of adjoint functors between the categories of simplicial sets and complete differential graded Lie algebras given by $\langle L\rangle_\bullet=\text{ DGL} (\mathfrak{L}_\bullet,L)$ and $ \mathfrak{L}(K)=\varinjlim_K\mathfrak{L}_{\bullet} $. This new tools let us extend Quillen rational homotopy theory approach to any simplicial set $K$ whose path components are non necessarily simply connected. We prove that $\mathfrak{L} (K)$ contains a model of each component of $K$. When $K$ is a $1$-connected finite simplicial complex, the Quillen model of $K$ can be extracted from $\mathfrak{L} (K)$. When $K$ is connected then, for a perturbed differential $\partial_a$, $H_0(\mathfrak{L} (K),\partial_a)$ is the Malcev Lie completion of $π_1(K)$. Analogous results are obtained for the realization $\langle L\rangle$ of any complete $\text{DGL}$.

Steenrod squares on Intersection cohomology and a conjecture of M. Goresky and W. Pardon

We prove a conjecture raised by M. Goresky and W. Pardon, concerning the range of validity of the perverse degree of Steenrod squares in intersection cohomology. This answer turns out of importance for the definition of characteristic classes in the framework of intersection cohomology. For this purpose, we present a construction of ${\rm cup}_{i}$-products on the cochain complex, built on the blow-up of some singular simplices and introduced in a previous work. We extend to this setting the classical properties of the associated Steenrod squares, including Adem and Cartan relations, for any generalized perversities. In the case of a pseudomanifold, we prove that our definition coincides with M. Goresky's definition. Several examples of concrete computation of perverse Steenrod squares are given, including the case of isolated singularities and, more especially, we describe the Steenrod squares on the Thom space of a vector bundle, in function of the Steenrod squares of the basis and the Stiefel-Whitney classes. We detail also an example of a non trivial square, $\sq^2\colon H_{\ bar{p}}\to H_{\ bar{p}+2}$, whose information is lost if we consider it as values in $H_{2\ bar{p}}$, showing the interest of the Goresky and Pardon's conjecture.
