Phase separation of a two-component dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate in the quasi-one-dimensional and quasi-two-dimensional regime

We consider a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate, which contains atoms with magnetic dipole moments aligned along the $z$ direction (labeled as component 1) and nonmagnetic atoms (labeled as component 2). The problem is studied by means of exact numerical simulations. The effects of dipole-dipole interaction on phase separations are investigated. It is shown that, in the quasi-one-dimensional regime, the atoms in component 2 are squeezed out when the dimensionless dipolar strength parameter is small, whereas the atoms in component 1 are pushed out instead when the parameter is large. This is in contrast to the phenomena in the quasi-two-dimensional regime. These two components are each kicked out by the other in the quasi-one-dimensional regime and this phenomenon is discussed as well.

The Nature of Explosive Percolation Phase Transition

In this Letter, we show that the explosive percolation is a novel continuous phase transition. The order-parameter-distribution histogram at the percolation threshold is studied in Erdős-Rényi networks, scale-free networks, and square lattice. In finite system, two well-defined Gaussian-like peaks coexist, and the valley between the two peaks is suppressed with the system size increasing. This finite-size effect always appears in typical first-order phase transition. However, both of the two peaks shift to zero point in a power law manner, which indicates the explosive percolation is continuous in the thermodynamic limit. The nature of explosive percolation in all the three structures belongs to this novel continuous phase transition. Various scaling exponents concerning the order-parameter-distribution are obtained.

Rank-based model for weighted network with hierarchical organization and disassortative mixing

Motivated by a recently introduced network growth mechanism that rely on the ranking of node prestige measures [S. Fortunato \emph{et al}., Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{96}, 218701 (2006)], a rank-based model for weighted network evolution is studied. The evolution rule of the network is based on the ranking of node strength, which couples the topological growth and the weight dynamics. Both analytical solutions and numerical simulations show that the generated networks possess scale-free distributions of degree, strength, and weight in the whole region of the growth dynamics parameter ($α>0$). We also characterize the clustering and correlation properties of this class of networks. It is showed that at $α=1$ a structural phase transition occurs, and for $α>1$ the generated network simultaneously exhibits hierarchical organization and disassortative degree correlation, which is consistent with a wide range of biological networks.
