On the pentaquark candidates Pc+(4380)P_c^+(4380) and Pc+(4450)P_c^+(4450) within the soliton picture of baryons

Using the bound state version of the topological soliton model for the baryons we show that the existence of a bound (or quasi-bound) Dˉ\bar D-soliton state leads to the possibility of having hidden charm pentaquarks with quantum numbers and masses, which are compatible with those of the candidates recently reported by the LHCb experiment. The implications of heavy quark symmetry are elaborated.

Baryon Form Factors of Relativistic Constituent-Quark Models

The electromagnetic and axial form factors of the nucleon and its lowest positive parity excitations, the Delta(1232) and the N*(1440), are calculated with constituent-quark models that are specified by simple algebraic representations of the mass-operator eigenstates. Poincaré covariant current operators are generated by the dynamics from single-quark currents that are covariant under a kinematic subgroup. The dependence of the calculated form factors on the choice of kinematics and on the gross features of the wave functions is illustrated for instant-form, point-form, and front-form kinematics. A simple algebraic form of the orbital ground state wave function, which depends on two parameters, allows a fair description of all the form factors over the empirically accessible range, although with widely different choices of the parameters, which determine the range and shape of the orbital wave function. The neutron electric form factor requires additional features, for instance the presence of mixed symmetry S-state component with 1 -- 2 % probability in the ground state wave function. Instant and front form kinematics demand a spatially extended wave function, whereas in point form kinematics the form factors may be described with a quite compact wave function.

The qqqqqˉqqqq\bar q components and hidden flavor contributions to the baryon magnetic moments

The contributions from the qqqqqˉqqqq\bar q components to the magnetic moments of the octet as well as the Δ++Δ^{++} and Ω−Ω^- decuplet baryons are calculated for the configurations that are expected to have the lowest energy if the hyperfine interaction depends both on spin and flavor. The contributions from the uuˉu\bar u, ddˉd\bar d and ssˉs\bar s components are given separately. It is shown that addition of qqqqqˉqqqq\bar q admixtures to the ground state baryons can improve the overall description of the magnetic moments of the baryon octet and decuplet in the quark model without SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking, beyond that of the different constituent masses of the strange and light-flavor quarks. The explicit flavor (and spin) wave functions for all the possible configurations of the qqqqqˉqqqq\bar q components with light and strange qqˉq\bar q pairs are given for the baryon and octet and decuplet. Admixtures of ~ 10% of the qqqqqˉqqqq\bar q configuration where the flavor-spin symmetry is [4]FS[22]F[22]S[4]_{FS}[22]_F[22]_S, which is likely to have the lowest energy, in particular reduces the deviation from the empirical values of the magnetic moments of the Σ−Σ^ - and the Ξ0Ξ^0 compared with the quark model.

The ssˉs\bar s component of the proton and the strangeness magnetic moment

A complete analysis is given of the implications of the empirical indications for a positive strangeness magnetic moment μsμ_s of the proton on the possible configurations of the uudssˉuuds\bar s component of the proton. A positive value for μsμ_s is obtained in the ssˉs\bar s configuration where the uudsuuds subsystem is in an orbitally excited state with [4][FS][22]F[22]S[4]_{[FS]}[22]_F[22]_S flavor-spin symmetry, which is likely to have the lowest energy. The configurations in which the sˉ\bar s is orbitally excited, which include the conventional K+Λ0K^+Λ^0 configuration, with exception of that in which the uudsuuds component has spin 2, yield negative values for μsμ_s. The hidden strangeness analogues of recently proposed quark cluster models for the θ+θ^+ pentaquark give differing signs for μsμ_s.

Nuclei of Double-Charm Hyperons

The ground states of double-charm hyperons form a spin 1/2 isospin 1/2 multiplet analogous to that of nucleons. Their main strong interaction may be inferred directly from the corresponding nucleon-nucleon interaction by multiplication of the interaction components by the appropriate fractional difference between interaction strengths for pairs of light flavor quarks and pairs of triplets, e.g. nucleons, of light flavor quarks. By construction of the interaction between the recently discovered double-charm hyperons by this method from several realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction models it is shown that double-charm hyperons are likely to form bound (or possibly meta-stable) states akin to the deuteron in the spin triplet state. Double beauty baryons would form corresponding deeply bound states. Nucleons and double charm (beauty) hyperons will also form bound states. The existence of hypernuclei with double-charm and double-beauty hyperons, which are stable against the strong decay, is very likely.

Scaling of Hadronic Form Factors in Point Form Kinematics

The general features of baryon form factors calculated with point form kinematics are derived. With point form kinematics and spectator currents hadronic form factors are functions of η:=14(vout−vin)2η:={1\over 4}(v_{out}-v_{in})^2 and, over a range of ηη values are insensitive to unitary scale transformations of the model wave functions when the extent of the wave function is small compared to the scale defined by the constituent mass, <r2>≪1/m2<r^2 > \ll 1/m^2. The form factors are sensitive to the shape of such compact wave functions. Simple 3-quark proton wave functions are employed to illustrate these features. Rational and algebraic model wave functions lead to a reasonable representation of the empirical form factors, while Gaussian wave functions fail. For large values of ηη point form kinematics with spectator currents leads to power law behavior of the wave functions.

Stable uuddsˉuudd\bar s pentaquarks in the constituent quark model

The stability of strange pentaquarks uuddsˉuudd\bar s is studied in a constituent quark model based on a flavor-spin hyperfine interaction between quarks. With this interaction model, which schematically represents the Goldstone boson exchange interaction between constituent quarks, the lowest lying strange pentaquark is a p−p-shell state with positive parity. The flavor-spin interaction lowers the energy of the lowest p−p-shell state below that of the lowest s−s-shell state, which has negative parity because of the negative parity of the strange antiquark. It is found that the strange pentaquark is stable against strong decay provided that the strange antiquark interacts by a fairly strong spin-spin interaction with uu and dd quarks. This interaction has a form that corresponds to ηη meson exchange. Its strength may be inferred from the π0π^0 decay width of Ds∗D_s^* mesons.

Dibaryons as canonically quantized biskyrmions

The characteristic feature of the ground state configuration of the Skyrme model description of nuclei is the absence of recognizable individual nucleons. The ground state of the skyrmion with baryon number 2 is axially symmetric, and is well approximated by a simple rational map, which represents a direct generalization of Skyrme's hedgehog ansatz for the nucleon. If the Lagrangian density is canonically quantized this configuration may support excitations that lie close and possible below the threshold for pion decay, and therefore describe dibaryons. The quantum corrections stabilize these solutions, the mass density of which have the correct exponential fall off at large distances.

Nucleon Resonance Transition Couplings to Vector Mesons

Recent heavy ion experiments indicate modifications of the ρ−ρ-meson mass in medium. In the CERES experiments ρ−ρ-mesons are produced at ∼\sim normal nuclear matter density, where hadrons are more appropriate constituents than quarks. A collective "nuclear ρρ", in which every nucleon is excited to the N(1520) state, with equal amplitude, enters in this description. At the higher densities reached by future experiments constituent quarks become the appropriate variables. Here the ρρ and ωω transition couplings to the nucleon resonances up to 1700 MeV, including the N(1520), are derived by means of the chiral quark model. The relevant coupling constants are expressed in terms of the corresponding vector coupling constants to nucleons. The quality of the model relations is tested by a calculation of the corresponding pion-resonance coupling constants, which are known from the empirical pion decay widths.

The Reaction pp→ppηpp\to ppη and the eta-Nucleon and Nucleon-Nucleon Interactions

The ππ, ηη and ρρ exchange contributions to the cross-section for the reaction pp→ppηpp\to ppη near threshold are calculated with a phenomenological description of the intermediate S11 (N(1535)) resonance for all exchange mechanisms. The final state interaction in the pppp system is described by realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction models. The sensitivity of the results to the phenomenological models for the ηη-nucleon transition amplitude and the nucleon-nucleon interaction is explored. The ηη exchange mechanism is found to play a dominant role. The off-shell behavior of the ηN→ηNηN \to ηN amplitude within the η−η-exchange amplitude leads to a result significantly different from that obtained with the constant scattering length approximation. The two-nucleon amplitudes that are associated with the short range components of the nucleon-nucleon interaction contribute significantly to the cross section.

Pionic Fluctuations of Constituent Quarks

Pion loop fluctuations of the constituent u and d quarks are shown to give only a minute contribution to the intrinsic charge radius of the neutron, under the assumption that the pion-quark coupling constant has its conventional value, with a cut-off scale of the order of 1.0 GeV. The contribution from the pion loops to the anomalous magnetic moment of the neutron represents a small (∼\sim 12-14%) increase over of the static quark model value.

The Strangeness Magnetic Moment of the Proton in the Chiral Quark Model

The strangeness magnetic moment of the proton is shown to be small in the chiral quark model. The dominant loop contribution is due to kaons. The K^* loop contributions are proportional to the difference between the strange and light constituent quark masses or mK∗−2m_{K^*}^{-2} and therefore small. The loop fluctuations that involve radiative transitions between K^* mesons and kaons are small, when the cut-off scale in the loops is taken to be close to the chiral symmetry restoration scale. The net loop amplitude contribution to the strangeness magnetic moment of the proton is about -0.05, which falls within the uncertainty range of the experimental value.

Electromagnetic Structure of the Trinucleons

The electromagnetic form factors of the trinucleons 3H and 3He are calculated with wave functions obtained with the Argonne AV18 two-nucleon and Urbana IX three-nucleon interactions. Full account is taken of the two-body currents required by current conservation with the AV18 interaction as well as those associated with N-Delta transition currents and the currents of Delta resonance components in the wave functions. Explicit three-nucleon current operators associated with the two-pion exchange three-nucleon interaction arising from irreducible S-wave pion-nucleon scattering is constructed and shown to have very little effect on the calculated magnetic form factors. The calculated magnetic form factor of 3H, and charge form factors of both 3H and 3He are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data. However, the position of the zero in the magnetic form factor of 3He is slightly underpredicted.

Covariant Quark Model for the Baryons

A family of simply solvable covariant quark models for the baryons is presented. With optimal parameter choices the models reproduce the empirical spectra of the baryons in all flavor sectors to an accuracy of a few percent. Complete spectra are obtained for all states of the strange, charm and beauty hyperons with L≤2L \leq 2. The magnetic moments and axial coupling constants of the ground state baryons correspond to those of conventional quark models. We construct current-density operators that are consistent with empirical nucleon form factors at low and medium energies.

Poincare Covariant Quark Models of Baryon Form Factors

Poincare covariant quark models of the the nucleon, the ΔΔ resonance and their excitations are explored. The baryon states are represented by eigenfunctions of the four-velocity and a confining mass operator, which reproduces the empirical spectrum up to ∼\sim 1700 MeV to an accuracy of ∼6\sim 6%. Models of constituent quark currents provide the relations between ground-state properties and transition amplitudes.

Repulsive Short Range Three-Nucleon Interaction

The three nucleon interaction that arises from pion and the effective scalar and vector meson exchange components of the nucleon-nucleon interaction is constructed and shown to be repulsive. Using several wavefunction models we show that this interaction reduces the calculated binding energy of the trinucleons by about 200 keV. The contributions of intermediate NN(1440) resonances to this three nucleon interaction and of the DD-state component in the trinucleon model are estimated, and shown to be small.

THE COUPLING OF THE f1(1285)f_1(1285) MESON TO THE ISOSCALAR AXIAL CURRENT OF THE NUCLEON

The weak decay as well as the strong nucleon coupling constants of the isoscalar axial vector meson f1(1285)f_1 (1285) are estimated within the octet quark model. It is shown that the empirical value for the coupling of s‾s\overline{s}s quarkonium to nucleons can be understood by attributing the f1(1285)f_1(1285)-nucleon coupling to the a0πNa_0πN triangle diagram.

Higher Resonance Contributions to the Adler-Weisberger Sum Rule in the Large N_c Limit

We determine the NcN_c--dependence of the resonance contributions to the Adler--Weisberger sum rule for the inverse square 1/gA21/g_A^2 of the axial charge coupling constant and show that in the large NcN_c limit the contributions of the Roper-like excitations scale as O(1/Nc)O(1/N_c). Consistency with the 1/Nc21/N_c^2 scaling of the 1/gA21/g_A^2 term in the sum rule requires these contributions to cancel against each other.

The Baryon Spectrum and Chiral Dynamics

The fine structure of the low energy part of the nucleon and strange hyperon spectra, which are formed of single states without parity doublets, may be understood in terms of an SU(3)SU(3) flavor-symmetric quark-quark interaction that describes chiral pseudoscalar boson exchange. The model predicts the fine structure splittings within 10-30\% of their empirical values and provides an explanation of the reversed ordering of the lowest positive and negative parity resonances in the nucleon and the ΛΛ hyperon spectra.
