We consider the parallel refractor problem when the planar radiating source lies in a medium having higher refractive index than the medium in which the target is located. We prove local $C^{1,α}$ estimates for parallel refractors under suitable geometric assumptions on the source and target, and under local regularity hypotheses on the target set. We also discuss existence of refractors under energy conservation assumptions.
We design freeform lenses refracting an arbitrarily given incident field into a given fixed direction. In the near field case, we study the existence of lenses refracting a given bright object into a predefined image. We also analyze the existence of systems of mirrors that solve the near field and the far field problems for reflection.
We prove local $C^{1,α}$ estimates of solutions for the parallel refractor and reflector problems under local assumptions on the target set $Σ$, and no assumptions are made on the smoothness of the densities.
We present an abstract method in the setting of compact metric spaces which is applied to solve a number of problems in geometric optics. In particular, we solve the one source near field refraction problem. That is, we construct surfaces separating two homogenous media with different refractive indices that refract radiation emanating from the origin into a target domain contained in an n-1 dimensional hypersurface. The input and output energy are prescribed. This implies the existence of lenses focusing radiation in a prescribed manner.
We introduce a model to design reflectors that take into account the inverse square law for radiation. We prove existence of solutions, both in the near and far field cases, when the input and output energies are prescribed.
