Uniform bounds for bilinear symbols with linear K-quasiconformally embedded singularity

We prove bounds in the strict local $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ range for trilinear Fourier multiplier forms with a $d$-dimensional singular subspace. Given a fixed parameter $K \ge 1$, we treat multipliers with non-degenerate singularity that are push-forwards by $K$-quasiconformal matrices of suitable symbols. As particular applications, our result recovers the uniform bounds for the one-dimensional bilinear Hilbert transforms in the strict local $L^{2}$ range, and it implies the uniform bounds for two-dimensional bilinear Beurling transforms, which are new, in the same range.

Local bounds for singular Brascamp-Lieb forms with cubical structure

We prove a range of $L^p$ bounds for singular Brascamp-Lieb forms with cubical structure. We pass through sparse and local bounds, the latter proved by an iteration of Fourier expansion, telescoping, and the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. We allow $2^{m-1}<p\le \infty$ with $m$ the dimension of the cube, extending an earlier result that required $p=2^m$. The threshold $2^{m-1}$ is sharp in our theorems.

When does $e^{-\lvert τ\rvert }$ maximize Fourier extension for a conic section?

In the past decade, much effort has gone into understanding maximizers for Fourier restriction and extension inequalities. Nearly all of the cases in which maximizers for inequalities involving the restriction or extension operator have been successfully identified can be seen as partial answers to the question in the title. In this survey, we focus on recent developments in sharp restriction theory relevant to this question. We present results in the algebraic case for spherical and hyperbolic extension inequalities. We also discuss the use of the Penrose transform leading to some negative answers in the case of the cone.

Hilbert transforms along Lipschitz direction fields: A lacunary model

We prove bounds for the truncated directional Hilbert transform in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^2)$ for any $1<p<\infty$ under a combination of a Lipschitz assumption and a lacunarity assumption. It is known that a lacunarity assumption alone is not sufficient to yield boundedness for $p=2$, and it is a major question in the field whether a Lipschitz assumption alone suffices, at least for some $p$.

Variational estimates for the bilinear iterated Fourier integral

We prove pointwise variational Lp bounds for a bilinear Fourier integral operator in a large but not necessarily sharp range of exponents. This result is a joint strengthening of the corresponding bounds for the classical Carleson operator, the bilinear Hilbert transform, the variation norm Carleson operator, and the bi-Carleson operator. Terry Lyon's rough path theory allows for extension of our result to multilinear estimates. We consider our result a proof of concept for a wider array of similar estimates with possible applications to ordinary differential equations.

A local $T(b)$ theorem for perfect multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators

We prove a multilinear local $T(b)$ theorem that differs from previously considered multilinear local $T(b)$ theorems in using exclusively general testing functions $b$ as opposed to a mix of general testing functions and indicator functions. The main new feature is a set of relations between the various testing functions $b$ that to our knowledge has not been observed in the literature and is necessitated by our approach. For simplicity we restrict attention to the perfect dyadic model.

Dyadic triangular Hilbert transform of two general and one not too general function

The so-called triangular Hilbert transform is an elegant trilinear singular integral form which specializes to many well studied objects of harmonic analysis. We investigate $L^p$ bounds for a dyadic model of this form in the particular case when one of the functions on which it acts is essentially one-dimensional. This special case still implies dyadic analogues of boundedness of the Carleson maximal operator and of the uniform estimates for the one-dimensional bilinear Hilbert transform.

On a trilinear singular integral form with determinantal kernel

We study a trilinear singular integral form acting on two-dimensional functions and possessing invariances under arbitrary matrix dilations and linear modulations. One part of the motivation for introducing it lies in its large symmetry groups acting on the Fourier side. Another part of the motivation is that this form stands between the bilinear Hilbert transforms and the first Calderón commutator, in the sense that it can be reduced to a superposition of the former, while it also successfully encodes the latter. As the main result we determine the exact range of exponents in which the ${L}^p$ estimates hold for the considered form.

Endpoint bounds for the bilinear Hilbert transform

We study the behavior of the bilinear Hilbert transform $\mathrm{BHT}$ at the boundary of the known boundedness region $\mathcal H$. A sample of our results is the estimate $| \langle\mathrm{BHT}(f_1,f_2),f_3 \rangle | \leq C |F_1|^{\frac34}|F_2| ^{\frac34} |F_3|^{-\frac12} \log\log \Big(\mathrm{e}^{\mathrm{e}} + \frac{|F_3|}{\min\{|F_1|,|F_2|\}} \Big) $ valid for all tuples of sets $F_j \subset \mathbb R $ of finite measure and functions $f_j$ such that $|f_j| \leq \mathbf{1}_{F_j}$, $j=1,2,3$, with the additional restriction that $f_3$ be supported on a major subset $F_3'$ of $F_3$ that depends on $\{F_j:j=1,2,3\}$. The double logarithmic term improves over the single logarithmic term obtained by Bilyk and Grafakos. Whether the double logarithmic term can be removed entirely, as is the case for the quartile operator discussed by Demeter and the first author, remains open. We employ our endpoint results to describe the blow-up rate of weak-type and strong-type estimates for $\mathrm{BHT}$ as the tuple $\vec α$ approaches the boundary of $\mathcal H$. We also discuss bounds on Lorentz-Orlicz spaces near $L^{\frac23}$, improving on results of Carro, Grafakos, Martell and Soria. The main technical novelty in our article is an enhanced version of the multi-frequency Calderón-Zygmund decomposition by Nazarov, Oberlin and the second author.

Lp theory for outer measures and two themes of Lennart Carleson united

We develop a theory of Lp spaces based on outer measures rather than measures. This theory includes the classical Lp theory on measure spaces as special case. It also covers parts of potential theory and Carleson embedding theorems. The theory turns out to be an elegant language to describe aspects of classical singular integral theory such as paraproduct estimates and T(1) theorems, and it is particularly useful for generalizations of singular integral theory in time-frequency analysis. We formulate and prove a generalized Carleson embedding theorem and give a relatively short reduction of basic estimates for the bilinear Hilbert transform to this new Carleson embedding theorem.

A T(1) theorem for entangled multilinear dyadic Calderón-Zygmund operators

We prove a boundedness criterion for a class of dyadic multilinear forms acting on two-dimensional functions. Their structure is more general than the one of classical multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators as several functions can now depend on the same one-dimensional variable. The study of this class is motivated by examples related to the two-dimensional bilinear Hilbert transform and to bilinear ergodic averages. This paper is a sequel to the prior paper arXiv:1108.0917 by the first author.

Nonlinear Fourier Analysis

The nonlinear Fourier transform discussed in these notes is the map from the potential of a one dimensional discrete Dirac operator to the transmission and reflection coefficients thereof. Emphasis is on this being a nonlinear variant of the classical Fourier series, and on nonlinear analogues of classical analytic facts about Fourier series. These notes are a summary of a series of lectures given in 2003 at the Park City Mathematics Institute.

$L^p$ estimates for the Hilbert transforms along a one-variable vector field

Stein conjectured that the Hilbert transform in the direction of a vector field is bounded on, say, $L^2$ whenever $v$ is Lipschitz. We establish a wide range of $L^p$ estimates for this operator when $v$ is a measurable, non-vanishing, one-variable vector field in $\bbr ^2$. Aside from an $L^2$ estimate following from a simple trick with Carleson's theorem, these estimates were unknown previously. This paper is closely related to a recent paper of the first author (\cite{B2}).

New uniform bounds for a Walsh model of the bilinear Hilbert transform

We prove old and new $L^p$ bounds for the quartile operator, a Walsh model of the bilinear Hilbert transform, uniformly in the parameter that models degeneration of the bilinear Hilbert transform. We obtain the full range of exponents that can be expected from known bounds in the degenerate and non-degenerate cases. For the new estimates with exponents p close to 1 the argument relies on a multi-frequency Calderon-Zygmund decomposition.

On Calderón's conjecture

This paper is a successor of \cite{laceyt}. In that paper we considered bilinear operators of the form H_alpha(f_1,f_2)(x) = p.v. \int f_1(x-t) f_2(x + alpha t)/t dt, which are originally defined for f_1, f_2 in the Schwartz class S(R). The natural question is whether estimates of the form H_alpha(f_1,f_2)|_p <= C_{alpha,p_1,p_2} |f_1|_{p_1} |f_2|_{p_2} with constants C_{alpha,p_1,p_2} depending only on alpha,p_1,p_2 and p = p_1p_2/(p_1+p_2) hold. The purpose of the current paper is to extend the range of exponents p_1 and p_2 for which the estimate is known. In particular, the case p_1=2, p_2=\infty is solved to the affirmative. This was originally considered to be the most natural case and is known as Calderón's conjecture.
