A quantum machine learning classifier to search for new physics

Due to the success of the Standard Model~(SM), it is reasonable to anticipate that the signal of new physics~(NP) beyond the SM is small. Consequently, future searches for NP and precision tests of the SM will require high luminosity collider experiments. Moreover, as precision tests advance, rare processes with many final-state particles require consideration which demands the analysis of a vast number of observables. The high luminosity produces a large amount of experimental data spanning a large observable space, posing a significant data-processing challenge. In recent years, quantum machine learning has emerged as a promising approach for processing large amounts of complex data on a quantum computer. In this study, we propose quantum searching neighbor~(QSN) and variational QSN~(VQSN) algorithms to search for NP. The QSN is a classification algorithm. The VQSN introduces variation to the QSN to process classical data. As applications, we apply the (V)QSN in the phenomenological study of the NP at the Large Hadron Collider and muon colliders. Examples are implemented on a real quantum hardware, which confirms reliable performance under noisy conditions. The results indicate that the VQSN demonstrates superior efficiency in the sense of computational complexity to a classical counterpart k-nearest neighbor algorithm, even when dealing with classical data.

Searching for long-lived axion-like particles via displaced vertices at the HL-LHC

Axion-like particles (ALPs) are well-motivated extensions of the standard model (SM) that appear in numerous new physics scenarios. In this paper, we concentrate on searches for long-lived ALPs predicted by the photophobic scenario at the HL-LHC with the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV and the integrated luminosity $\mathcal{L}=$ $3$ ab$^{-1}$. We consider the process $pp \to γa$ with the ALP $a$ decaying into a pair of displaced charged leptons and perform a detailed analysis of two types of signals: $π^+ π^- γE\mkern-10.5 mu/_T $ and $\ell^+ \ell^- γE\mkern-10.5 mu/_T $. For the $π^+ π^- γE\mkern-10.5 mu/_T $ signal, we find that the prospective sensitivities of the HL-LHC can reach $g_{aWW}\in [8.72 \times 10^{-3}, 6.42 \times 10^{-2}]$ TeV$^{-1}$ for the ALP mass $m_a \in [4, 10]$ GeV. While for the $\ell^+ \ell^- γE\mkern-10.5 mu/_T $ signal, the HL-LHC can probe a broader parameter space, with the sensitivities covering $m_a \in [4, 10]$ GeV and $g_{aWW} \in [4.17 \times 10^{-3}, 2.00 \times 10^{-1}]$ TeV$^{-1}$. These long-lived searches complement some previous prompt decay studies from LEP and LHC experiments, extending the parameter space explored by the LHCb collaboration. Our results show that the HL-LHC has significant potential to probe long-lived ALPs via their displaced vertex signatures.

Production of axion-like particles via vector boson fusion at future electron-positron colliders

One kind of particularly interesting pseudoscalar particles, called axion-like particles (ALPs), have rich physical phenomenology at high- and low-energy collider experiments. After discussing most of single production channels of ALP at electron-positron colliders, we investigate the possibility of detecting this kind of new particles through the W$^{+}$W$^{-}$ fusion process e$^{+}$e$^{-}$ $\rightarrow$ $\overlineν_{e}$$ν_{e}a$ $(\rightarrow γγ)$ at the CLIC. The 3$σ$ and 5$σ$ bounds on the ALP parameter space at the three energy stages of the CLIC are obtained. We find that the bounds given by the CLIC are complementary to the existing experiments exclusion regions.

Prospects for detecting axion-like particles via the decay $Z\rightarrow af\bar{f}$ at future $Z$ factories

We investigate the prospects for detecting axion-like particles (ALPs, dubbed as "a") via the decay $Z\rightarrow a f\bar{f}$ at future $Z$ factories. Considering the decay channels $a\rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ and $a\rightarrow b \bar{b}$ , four types of signals $μ^+ μ^- /E$, $b b /E$, $e^+ e^- μ^+ μ^-$ and $e^+ e^- b b$ are explored. We demonstrate that these channels are promising for detecting ALPs at $Z$ factories and obtain the sensitivity bounds on the couplings $g_{aZZ}$ and $g_{aγZ}$.

The signatures of the new particles $h_2$ and $Z_{μτ}$ at e-p colliders in the $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model

Considering the superior performances of the future e-p colliders, LHeC and FCC-eh, we discuss the feasibility of detecting the extra neutral scalar $h_{2}$ and the light gauge boson $Z^{}_{μτ}$, which are predicted by the ${U(1)}_{L^{}_μ - L^{}_τ}$ model. Taking into account the experimental constraints on the relevant free parameters, we consider all possible production channels of $h_{2}$ and $Z^{}_{μτ}$ at e-p colliders and further investigate their observability through the optimal channels in the case of the beam polarization P($e^{-}$)= -0.8. We find that the signal significance above 5$σ$ of $h_{2}$ as well as $Z^{}_{μτ}$ detecting can be achieved via $e^{-}p\to{e^{-}jh_{2}(\to{Z_{μτ}Z_{μτ}})}\to~e^{-}j+/\!\!\!\!{E}^{}_{T}$ process and a 5$σ$ sensitivity of $Z^{}_{μτ}$ detecting can be gained via $e^{-}p\to{e^{-}jh_{1}(\to{Z^{}_{μτ}Z^{}_{μτ}})\to}~e^{-}j+/\!\!\!\!{E}^{}_{T}$ process at e-p colliders with appropriate parameter values and a designed integrated luminosity. However, the signals of $h_{2}$ decays into pair of SM particles are difficult to be detected.

New gauge boson Z' and lepton flavor violating decays and production of vector mesons

Considering the constraints on the lepton flavor violating (LFV) couplings of the new gauge boson $Z'$ to ordinary leptons from the experimental upper limit for the LFV process $\ell\rightarrow 3\ell'$, we calculate the contributions of $Z'$ to the LFV decays $V\rightarrow\ell_{i}\ell_{j}$ with $V\in\{ϕ,J/Ψ,Ψ(2S),Υ^{(n)}\}$ and $τ\toμ(e)ϕ$ in the context of several $Z'$ models. We find that all $Z'$ models considered in this paper can produce significant contributions to these decay processes and make the value of the branching ratio $Br(τ\to eϕ)$ above its experimental upper limit. The experimental upper limit of $τ\to eϕ$ can give more severe constraints on these $Z'$ models than those given by the rare decay process $τ\to3e$.

Search for anomalous couplings via single top quark production in association with a photon at LHC

Considering the experimental constraints given by CMS collaboration at $\sqrt{s} = 8$ TeV on the strength of top quark flavour-changing neutral-current (FCNC) couplings $tqγ$ and $tqg$, we investigate the production of top quark in association with a photon and carry out a full simulation for the signals $\ellνbγ$ and $jjbγ$ at 14 TeV LHC. In our numerical analysis, the contributions of single top production with a photon radiation off the top decay products are also included. The discovery potential for anomalous couplings $tqγ$ and $tqg$ with an integrated luminosity of 100 fb$^{-1}$ are examined in detail.

Lepton flavor violating Higgs couplings and single production of the Higgs boson via e γcollision

Taking into account the constraints on the lepton flavor violation (LFV) couplings of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson H with leptons from low energy experiments and the recent Compact Muon Solenoid experiment results, we investigate production of the SM Higgs boson associated with a lepton τvia e γcollision at the International Linear Collider (ILC) and Large Hadron Electron Collider experiments. The production cross sections are calculated and the LFV signals and the relevant SM backgrounds are examined. The LFV signals of the SM Higgs boson might be observed via e γcollision in future ILC experiments.

The signatures of the quintuplet leptons at the LHC

We investigate production and detection prospects of the quintuplet heavy leptons at the LHC in the context of a new model which is proposed as a viable and testable solution to the neutrino masses problem. We classify the signals, carry out a full simulation on the signals and the relevant backgrounds at the 14 TeV LHC. After applying suitable kinematic cuts, the background events are substantially suppressed. The signals of the heavy leptons might be detected at the 14 TeV LHC.

Associated production of the heavy charged gauge boson ${W_{H}}$ and a top quark at LHC

In the context of topflavor seesaw model, we study the production of the heavy charged gauge boson ${W_{H}}$ associated with a top quark at the LHC. Focusing on the searching channel $pp\rightarrow tW_H\rightarrow t\bar{t}b \rightarrow lνjjbbb$, we carry out a full simulation of the signal and the relevant standard model backgrounds. The kinematical distributions of final states are presented. It is found that the backgrounds can be significantly suppressed by sets of kinematic cuts, and the signal of the heavy charged boson might be detected at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV. With a integrated luminosity of $\LL= $ 100 $fb^{-1}$, a $8.3 σ$ signal significance can be achieved for $m_{W_H}=1.6$ TeV.

LFV couplings of the extra gauge boson Z' and leptonic decay and production of pseudoscalar mesons

Considering the constraints of the lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes $μ\rightarrow 3e$ and $τ\rightarrow3μ$ on the LFV couplings $Z'\ell_{i}\ell_{j}$, in the contexts of the $E_{6}$ models, the left-right (LR) models, the "alternative" left-right (ALR) models and the 331 models, we investigate the contributions of the extra gauge boson $Z'$ to the decay rates of the processes $\ell_{i}\rightarrow\ell_{j}ν_{\ell}ν_{\ell}$, $τ\rightarrowμP $ and $P\rightarrow μe$ with $P=π^{0},η$ and $η'$. Our numerical results show that the maximal values of the branching ratios for these processes are not dependent on the $Z'$ mass $M_{Z'}$ at leader order. The extra gauge boson $Z'_{X}$ predicted by the $E_{6}$ models can make the maximum value of the branching ratio $Br(τ\rightarrowμν_{\ell}ν_{\ell})$ reach $1.1\times10^{-7}$. All $Z'$ models considered in this paper can produce significant contributions to the process $τ\rightarrowμP$. However, the value of $Br(P\rightarrowμe)$ is far below its corresponding experimental upper bound.

Light axigluon and single top production at the LHC

The light axigluon model can explain the Tevatron $t\overline{t}$ forward-backward asymmetry and at the same time satisfy the constraints from the electroweak precision measurement and the $ATLAS$ and $CMS$ data, which induces the flavor changing ($FC$) couplings of axigluon with the $SM$ and new quarks. We investigate the effects of these $FC$ couplings on the s- and t-channel single top productions at the $LHC$ and the $FC$ decays $Z\rightarrow \overline{b}s+b\overline{s}$, $t\rightarrow cγ$ and $cg$. Our numerical results show that the light axigluon can give significantly contributions to single top production and the rare top decays $t\rightarrow cγ$ and $cg$.

Precise photoproduction of the charged top-pions at the LHC with forward detector acceptances

We study the photoproduction of the charged top-pion predicted by the top triangle moose ($TTM$) model (a deconstructed version of the topcolor-assisted technicolor $TC2$ model) via the processes $pp\rightarrow p γp \rightarrow π^\pm_t t +X$ at the 14 $TeV$ Large Hadron Collider ($LHC$) including next-to-leading order ($NLO$) $QCD$ corrections. Our results show that the production cross sections and distributions are sensitive to the free parameters $\sinω$ and $M_{π_t}$. Typical $QCD$ correction value is $7\% \sim 11\%$ and does not depend much on $\sinω$ as well as the forward detector acceptances.

Production and decay of for the 125 GeV Higgs boson in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity

Motivated by recent search results for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we revisit the Higgs phenomenology in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT). We present the signal strength modifier $μ$ respectively for the main search channels $qq' \rightarrow jjh\rightarrow jjγγ$, $qq'\rightarrow Vh\rightarrow Vγγ$, $qq'\rightarrow Vh \rightarrow Vbb$, $gg\rightarrow h \rightarrow γγ$, and $gg \rightarrow h \rightarrow VV$ in the LHT model. It is found that an enhancement factor of $1.09-1.56$ in $qq' \rightarrow jjh\rightarrow jjγγ$ channel can be obtained for this model in Case B with parameter $f$ in the range 1000 GeV$\sim 500$ GeV. However, the rates for $b\bar{b}$, $τ\barτ$ are significantly suppressed relative to the SM predictions which are still consistent with the current sensitivity. It is hoped that will be further tested with larger integrated luminosity at the LHC.

Rare baryonic decays $Λ_b \to Λl^+ l^-$ in the TTM model

In the framework of the top triangle moose $(TTM)$ model, we analyze the rare decays $Λ_{b}\rightarrow Λl^{+}l^{-} (l=e,μ,τ)$ by using the form factors calculated in full $QCD$. We calculate the contributions of the new particles predicted by this model to observables, such as the branching ratios, forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{FB}$) and polarizations related these decay processes. We find that, in wide range of the parameter space, the values of the branching ratios are enhanced by one order of magnitude comparing to the $SM$ predictions. This model can also produce significant corrections to $A_{FB}$, normal polarization $P_N$ and transversal polarization $P_T$.

Vector bileptons and the decays $h\rightarrow γγ,Zγ$

Takeing into account of the constraints on the relevant parameters from the muon anomalous magnetic moment, we consider the contributions of the vector bileptons $V^{\pm}$ and $U^{\pm\pm}$ predicted by the reduced minimal 331 model to the Higgs decay channels $h \rightarrow γγ$ and $Zγ$. Our numerical results show that the vector bileptons can enhance the partial width $Γ(h\rightarrow γγ)$, while reduce the partial width $Γ(h\rightarrow Zγ)$, which are anti-correlated. With reasonable values of the relevant free parameters, the vector bileptons can explain the $LHC$ data for the $γγ$ signal. If the $CMS$ data persists, the value of the free parameters $ λ_{2}$ and $ λ_{3}$ should be severe constrained.

Pair production of the heavy leptons associated with a gauge boson gamma or Z at the ILC

The T-odd leptons are the typical particles predicted by the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT model) and the observation of these particles might be regarded as the direct evidence of the LHT model. In this paper, we investigate the production of a pair of T-odd leptons associated with a gauge boson $V$($γ$ or $Z$) at the international linear $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider (ILC). The numerical results show that the possible signals of the T-odd leptons may be detected in the future ILC experiments.

Photoproduction of the charged top-pions at the LHeC

The top triangle moose $(TTM)$ model, which can be seen as the deconstructed version of the topcolor-assisted technicolor ($TC2$) model, predicts the existence of the charged top-pions $ π_{t}^{\pm}$ in low energy spectrum. In the context of this model, we consider photoproduction of $π^{\pm}_{t}$ via the subprocesses $γb\to t π_{t}^{-}$ and $γ\bar{b}\to \bar{t} π_{t}^{+}$ at the large hadron-electron collider ($LHeC$), in which high energy photon beams are generated by using the Compton backscatting method. We find that, as long as the charged top-pions are not too heavy, they can be abundantly produced via $γb$ collision.

The anomalous top quark coupling tqg and tW production at the LHC

Many new physics models beyond the standard model ($SM$) can give rise to the large anomalous top couplings $tqg$ ($q=u$ and $c$). We focus our attention on these couplings induced by the topcolor-assisted technicolor ($TC2$) model and the littlest Higgs model with $T$-parity (called $LHT $ model), and consider their contributions to the production cross section and the charge asymmetry for $tW$ production at the $LHC$. We find that the anomalous top coupling $tqg$ induced by these two kinds of new physics models can indeed generate sizable charge asymmetry. The correction effects of the $LHT $ model on the production cross sections of the processes $pp\rightarrow tW^-+X$ and $pp\rightarrow \bar{t}W^++X$ are significant large, which might be detected at the $LHC$.

Lepton flavor violating signals of the LHT model via e^{+}e^{-} and γγcollisions at the ILC

Taking into account the constraints on the free parameters of the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (called $LHT$ model) from some rare decay processes, such as $μ\rightarrow eγ$ and $μ\rightarrow 3e$, we consider the contributions of the $LHT$ model to the lepton flavor violating ($LFV$) processes $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow l_{i}\bar{l}_{j}$ and $γγ\rightarrow l_{i}\bar{l}_{j}$ ($i\neq j$). We find that the $LHT$ model can indeed produce significant contributions to these $LFV$ processes and its $LFV$ signal might has a chance of being observed in the future $ILC$ experiments.

Lepton flavor violation decays $τ^-\to μ^- P_1 P_2$ in the topcolor-assisted technicolor model and the littlest Higgs model with $T$ parity

The new particles predicted by the topcolor-assisted technicolor ($TC2$) model and the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (called $LHT$ model) can induce the lepton flavor violation ($LFV$) couplings at tree level or one loop level, which might generate large contributions to some $LFV$ processes. Taking into account the constraints of the experimental data on the relevant free parameters, we calculate the branching ratios of the $LFV$ decay processes $τ^-\toμ^- P_1 P_2 $ with $P_1 P_2$ = $π^+π^-$, $K^+K^-$ and $K^0\bar{K^0}$ in the context of these two kinds of new physics models. We find that the $TC2$ model and the $LHT$ model can indeed produce significant contributions to some of these $LFV$ decay processes.

Rare decays B\to Mν\barν in the TC2 model and the LHT model

In the framework of the topcolor-assisted technicolor ($TC2$) model and the littlest Higgs model with $T$-parity ($LHT$ model), we consider the rare B decays $B\to Mν\barν$ with $M=π,K,ρ,$ or $K^{\ast}$. We find that the contributions of the $TC2$ model to the branching ratios of these decay processes are larger than those for the $LHT$ model. The experimental upper limits for some branching ratios can give severe constraints on the free parameters of the $TC2$ model.

Single production of the doubly charged Higgs boson via eγcollision in the Higgs triplet model

The Higgs triplet model (HTM) predicts the existence of a pair of doubly charged Higgs bosons $H^{\pm \pm}$. Single production of $H^{\pm \pm}$ via e collision at the next generation e+e- International Linear Collider (ILC) and the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) is considered. The numerical results show that the production cross sections are very sensitive to the neutrino oscillation parameters. Their values for the inverted hierarchy mass spectrum are larger than those for the normal hierarchy mass spectrum at these two kinds of collider experiments. With reasonable values of the relevant free parameters, the possible signals of the doubly charged Higgs bosons predicted by the HTM might be detected in future ILC experiments.

The scalars from the topcolor scenario and the spin correlations of the top pair production at the LHC

The topcolor scenario predicts the existences of some new scalars. In this paper, we consider the contributions of these new particles to the observables, which are related to the top quark pair ($t\bar{t}$) production at the LHC. It is found that these new particles can generate significant corrections to the $t\bar{t}$ production cross section and the $t\bar{t}$ spin correlations.

Rare decays $B_s\to l^+l^-$ and $B\to Kl^+l^-$ in \the topcolor-assisted technicolor model

We examine the rare decays $B_s\to l^+l^-$ and $B\to Kl^+l^-$ in the framework of the topcolor-assisted technicolor ($TC2$) model. The contributions of the new particles predicted by this model to these rare decay processes are evaluated. We find that the values of their branching ratios are larger than the standard model predictions by one order of magnitude in wide range of the parameter space. The longitudinal polarization asymmetry of leptons in $B_s \to l^+l^-$ can approach $\ord(10^{-2})$. The forward-backward asymmetry of leptons in $B \to Kl^+l^-$ is not large enough to be measured in future experiments. We also give some discussions about the branching ratios and the asymmetry observables related to these rare decay processes in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity.

Production of the neutral top-pion $π_{t}^{0}$ in association with a high-$p_{T}$ jet at the $LHC$

In the framework of the topcolor-assisted technicolor $(TC2)$ model, we study production of the neutral top-pion $π_{t}^{0}$ in association with a high-$p_{T}$ jet at the $LHC$, which proceeds via the partonic processes $gg\longrightarrow π_{t}^{0}g$, $gq\longrightarrow π_{t}^{0}q$, $q\bar{q}\longrightarrow π_{t}^{0}g$, $gb(\bar{b})\longrightarrow π_{t}^{0}b(\bar{b})$, and $b\bar{b}\longrightarrow π_{t}^{0}g$. We find that it is very challenging to detect the neutral top-pion $π_{t}^{0}$ via the process $pp\longrightarrow π_{t}^{0}+jet+X\to t\bar{t}+jet+X$, while the possible signatures of $π_{t}^{0}$ might be detected via the process $pp\longrightarrow π_{t}^{0}+jet+X\to(\bar{t}c+t\bar{c})+jet+X$ at the $LHC$.
