Human Mobility Datasets Enriched With Contextual and Social Dimensions

In this resource paper, we present two publicly available datasets of semantically enriched human trajectories, together with the pipeline to build them. The trajectories are publicly available GPS traces retrieved from OpenStreetMap. Each dataset includes contextual layers such as stops, moves, points of interest (POIs), inferred transportation modes, and weather data. A novel semantic feature is the inclusion of synthetic, realistic social media posts generated by Large Language Models (LLMs), enabling multimodal and semantic mobility analysis. The datasets are available in both tabular and Resource Description Framework (RDF) formats, supporting semantic reasoning and FAIR data practices. They cover two structurally distinct, large cities: Paris and New York. Our open source reproducible pipeline allows for dataset customization, while the datasets support research tasks such as behavior modeling, mobility prediction, knowledge graph construction, and LLM-based applications. To our knowledge, our resource is the first to combine real-world movement, structured semantic enrichment, LLM-generated text, and semantic web compatibility in a reusable framework.

Privacy Evaluation of Generative Models for Trajectory Generation

Trajectory data is fundamental to modern urban intelligence, yet its sensitivity raises significant privacy concerns. Generative models such as Generative Adversarial Networks, Variational Autoencoders, and Diffusion Models have been developed to generate realistic synthetic trajectory data by capturing underlying spatiotemporal distributions and mobility patterns. Although these models are often assumed to preserve privacy due to their generative nature, this assumption does not necessarily hold. In this work, we investigate the intersection of generative trajectory modeling and privacy evaluation. By identifying applicable empirical methods for assessing privacy preservation in trajectory generation tasks, we demonstrate a significant gap in the evaluation of privacy for generative trajectory models. Motivated by this gap, we implement Membership Inference Attacks against representative models, demonstrating the feasibility of using such empirical privacy evaluation methods and showing that their generative nature does not eliminate privacy risks.

Sentiment-enhanced Multidimensional Analysis of Online Social Networks: Perception of the Mediterranean Refugees Crisis

We propose an analytical framework able to investigate discussions about polarized topics in online social networks from many different angles. The framework supports the analysis of social networks along several dimensions: time, space and sentiment. We show that the proposed analytical framework and the methodology can be used to mine knowledge about the perception of complex social phenomena. We selected the refugee crisis discussions over Twitter as the case study. This difficult and controversial topic is an increasingly important issue for the EU. The raw stream of tweets is enriched with space information (user and mentioned locations), and sentiment (positive vs. negative) w.r.t. refugees. Our study shows differences in positive and negative sentiment in EU countries, in particular in UK, and by matching events, locations and perception it underlines opinion dynamics and common prejudices regarding the refugees.
