Self-interacting Dark Scalar Spikes around Black Holes via Relativistic Bondi Accretion

We consider the spike mass density profile in a dark halo by self-consistently solving the relativistic Bondi accretion of dark matter onto a non-spining black hole of mass $M$. We assume that the dominant component of the dark matter in the halo is a Standard model gauge-singlet scalar. Its mass $m\simeq 10^{-5}{\rm eV}$ and quartic self-coupling $λ\lesssim10^{-19}$ are constrained to be compatible with the properties of galactic dark halos. In the hydrodynamic limit, we find that the accretion rate is bounded from below, $\dot{M}_{\rm min}=96πG^2M^2 m^4/λ\hbar^3$. Therefore, for $M=10^6~{\rm M}_\odot$ we have $\dot{M}_{\rm min}\simeq1.41\times 10^{-9}~{\rm M}_\odot~{\rm yr}^{-1}$, which is subdominant compared to the Eddington accretion of baryons. The spike density profile $ρ_0(r)$ within the self-gravitating regime cannot be fitted well by a single-power law but a double-power one. Despite that, we can fit $ρ_0(r)$ piecewise and find that $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.20}$ near the sound horizon, $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.00}$ towards the Bondi radius and $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.08}$ for the region in between. This contrasts with more cuspy $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.75}$ for dark matter with Coulomb-like self-interaction.

Complementary Test of the Dark Matter Self-Interaction by Direct and Indirect Detections

The halo dark matter (DM) can be gravitationally captured by the Sun. For self-interacting DM (SIDM), we show that the number of DM trapped inside the Sun remains unsuppressed even if the DM-nucleon cross section is negligible. We consider a SIDM model where $U(1)$ gauge symmetry is introduced to account for the DM self-interaction. Such a model naturally leads to isospin violation for DM-nucleon interaction, although isospin symmetry is still allowed as a special case. We show that the detection of neutrino signature from DM annihilation in the Sun can probe those SIDM parameter ranges not reachable by direct detections. Those parameter ranges are either the region with a very small $m_χ$ or the region opened up due to isospin violations.

Thermal transport of the solar captured dark matter and its impact on the indirect dark matter search

We study the thermal transport occurring in the system of solar captured dark matter (DM) and explore its impact on the DM indirect search signal. We particularly focus on the scenario of self-interacting DM (SIDM). The flows of energies in and out of the system are caused by solar captures via DM-nucleon and DM-DM scatterings, the energy dissipation via DM annihilation, and the heat exchange between DM and solar nuclei. We examine the DM temperature evolution and demonstrate that the DM temperature can be higher than the core temperature of the Sun if the DM-nucleon cross section is sufficiently small such that the energy flow due to DM self-interaction becomes relatively important. We argue that the correct DM temperature should be used for accurately predicting the DM annihilation rate, which is relevant to the DM indirect detection.

A Class of Three-Loop Models with Neutrino Mass and Dark Matter

We study a class of three-loop models for neutrino mass in which dark matter plays a key role in enabling the mass diagram. The simplest models in this class have Majorana dark matter and include the proposal of Krauss, Nasri and Trodden; we identify the remaining related models, including the viable colored variants. The next-to-simplest models use either more multiplets and/or a slight modification of the loop-diagram, and predict inert N-tuplet scalar dark matter.

A Three-Loop Model of Neutrino Mass with Dark Matter

We propose a model in which the origin of neutrino mass is dependent on the existence of dark matter. Neutrinos acquire mass at the three-loop level and the dark matter is the neutral component of a fermion triplet. We show that experimental constraints are satisfied and that the dark matter can be tested in future direct-detection experiments. Furthermore, the model predicts a charged scalar that can be within reach of collider experiments like the LHC.

Probing Dark Matter Self-Interaction in the Sun with IceCube-PINGU

We study the capture, annihilation and evaporation of dark matter (DM) inside the Sun. It has been shown that the DM self-interaction can increase the DM number inside the Sun. We demonstrate that this enhancement becomes more significant in the regime of small DM mass, given a fixed DM self-interaction cross section. This leads to the enhancement of neutrino flux from DM annihilation. On the other hand, for DM mass as low as a few GeVs, not only the DM-nuclei scatterings can cause the DM evaporation, DM self-interaction also provides non-negligible contributions to this effect. Consequently, the critical mass for DM evaporation (typically 3 $\sim$ 4 GeV without the DM self-interaction) can be slightly increased. We discuss the prospect of detecting DM self-interaction in IceCube-PINGU using the annihilation channels $χχ\rightarrow τ^{+}τ^{-}, ν\barν$ as examples. The PINGU sensitivities to DM self-interaction cross section $σ_{χχ}$ are estimated for track and cascade events.

Binary Icosahedral Flavor Symmetry for Four Generations of Quarks and Leptons

To include the quark sector, the $A_{5}\equiv I$ (icosahedron) four generation lepton model is extended to a binary icosahedral symmetry $I'$ flavor model. We find the masses of fermions, including the heavy sectors, can be accommodated. At leading order the CKM matrix is the identity and the PMNS matrix, resulting from same set of vacua, corresponds to tribimaximal mixings.

Correlation of $h\rightarrowγγ$ and $Zγ$ in Type-II seesaw neutrino model

We study the charged scalar contributions to the Higgs decay channels of $h\rightarrow γγ$ and $h\rightarrow Zγ$ in the Type-II seesaw neutrino model. In most of the allowed parameter space in the model, the new contribution to $h\rightarrow Zγ$ is positively correlated with that to $h\rightarrowγγ$. If the current excess of the $h\rightarrow γγ$ rate measured by the ATLAS Collaboration persists, the $h\rightarrow Zγ$ rate should be also larger than the corresponding standard model prediction. We demonstrate that the anti-correlation between $h\rightarrowγγ$ and $h\rightarrow Zγ$ only exists in some special region.

LHC Signatures for Cascade Seesaw Mechanism

Cascade seesaw mechanism generates neutrino mass at higher dimension (5+4n) operators through tree level diagram which bring the seesaw scale down to TeV and provide collider signatures within LHC reach. In particular, both Type-II scalar and Type-III heavy fermion seesaw signatures exist in such a scenario. Doubly charged scalar decays into diboson is dominant. We perform a thorough study on the LHC signals and the Standard Model background. We draw the conclusion that multilepton final state from interplay of doubly charged scalar and heavy fermion can provide distinguishable signatures from conventional seesaw mechanisms.

Multi high charged scalars in the LHC searches and Majorana neutrino mass generations

One natural way to understand the excess of the measured $H\toγγ$ rate over the standard model (SM) expectation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is to have charged scalar bosons, existing in most of the SM extensions. Motivated by this LHC result, we explore if it also sheds light on solving the small neutrino mass generation problem. We concentrate on a class of models with high dimensional representations of scalars to realize Majorana neutrino masses at two-loop level without imposing any new symmetry. In these models, multi scalars with the electric charges higher than two are naturally expected, which not only enhance the $H\toγγ$ rate, but provide more searching grounds at the LHC. In particular, the rate of $H\to Zγ$ also changes similar to that of the diphoton channel.

New Scalar Contributions to $h\to Zγ$

We calculate the Higgs decay rate of $h\to Zγ$ by including the contributions from new scalars with arbitrary quantum numbers of the weak isospin ($T$) and hypercharge ($Y$) in the standard model. We find that our general formula for the decay rate of $h\to Zγ$ matches with that for $h\to γγ$ in the limit of $m_Z=0$, but it is different from those in the literature. To illustrate our result, by taking the current $2σ$ excess of the $h\to γγ$ rate measured by the LHC, we examine the corresponding shift for the $Zγ$ decay channel due to the new scalar. We show that the enhancement or reduction of the $h\to Zγ$ rate only depends on the relative size of $T$ and the absolute value of $Y$. Explicitly, we predict $0.76<R_{Zγ}\equiv Γ(h\to Zγ)/Γ_{SM}(h\to Zγ)<2.05$ by imposing the observed range of $1.5<R_{γγ}\equiv Γ(h\to Zγγ)/Γ_{SM}(h\toγγ)<2$, which is independent of the number of multiplets and the couplings to the Higgs particle as long as the scalars are heavier than 200 GeV. This result provides a clear signature for the future LHC measurements to test physics beyond the standard model.

Peccei-Quinn symmetry as the origin of Dirac Neutrino Masses

We propose a model of Dirac neutrino masses generated at one-loop level. The origin of this mass is induced from Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking which was proposed to solve the so-called strong CP problem in QCD, therefore, the neutrino mass is connected with the QCD scale, $Λ_{\rm QCD}$. We also study the parameter space of this model confronting with neutrino oscillation data and leptonic rare decays. The phenomenological implications to leptonic flavor physics such as the electromagnetic moment of charged leptons and neutrinos are studied. Axion as the dark matter candidate is one of the byproduct in our scenario. Di-photon and Z-photon decay channels in the LHC Higgs search are investigated, we show that the effects of singly charged singlet scalar can be distinguished from the general two Higgs doublet model.

Vacuum stability, neutrinos, and dark matter

Motivated by the discovery hint of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs mass around 125 GeV at the LHC, we study the vacuum stability and perturbativity bounds on Higgs scalar of the SM extensions including neutrinos and dark matter (DM). Guided by the SM gauge symmetry and the minimal changes in the SM Higgs potential we consider two extensions of neutrino sector (Type-I and Type-III seesaw mechanisms) and DM sector (a real scalar singlet (darkon) and minimal dark matter (MDM)) respectively. The darkon contributes positively to the $β$ function of the Higgs quartic coupling $λ$ and can stabilize the SM vacuum up to high scale. Similar to the top quark in the SM we find the cause of instability is sensitive to the size of new Yukawa couplings between heavy neutrinos and Higgs boson, namely, the scale of seesaw mechanism. MDM and Type-III seesaw fermion triplet, two nontrivial representations of $SU(2)_{L}$ group, will bring the additional positive contributions to the gauge coupling $g_{2}$ renormalization group (RG) evolution and would also help to stabilize the electroweak vacuum up to high scale.

An A_5 Model of Four Lepton Generations

We study the lepton sector of a four generations model based on the discrete flavor group $A_5$ (the even permutation of five objects). The best features of the three family $A_4$ model survive, including the tribimaximal pattern of three generation neutrino mixings. At leading order the three light neutrino mass relations of $m_{ν_1} = m_{ν_3}$ and $m_{ν_2} = 0$ are predicted. The splitting of the neutrino masses can be naturally obtained as a result of the breaking of $A_{5}$ down to $A_4$ and a degenerate spectrum is preferred in our model. In our $A_5$ model, the electron mass is zero at tree level, but calculable through quantum corrections.

Bimodal/Schizophrenic Neutrino As a Bridge between Inflation and Dark Energy

We consider the possibility to combine inflection point inflation and growing neutrino dark energy in a particular setup of bimodal/schizophrenic neutrino model in the framework of MSSM$\otimes U(1)_{B-L}$. In order to obtain a varying neutrino mass, we make an assumption that a soft mass of $\tilde{Z'}_{BL}$ depends on a scalar field which plays the role of a cosmon field. We also investigate the possible effects of the cosmon field in the early universe such as modulated reheating and found that the induced density perturbation is negligible.

Kinematically Blocked Curvaton

In this paper, we investigate the idea that the decay of a curvaton is kinematically blocked and show that the coupling constant for curvaton decay can be as large as ${\cal O}(1)$. We also find in this case the lower bound of the Hubble parameter at horizon exit from big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) is $H_\ast \gae 7.2 \times 10^{-9}M_P \sim 10^{10} {GeV}$. Similar to conventional curvaton scenario, the nonlinear parameter can be as large as $f_{NL}=100$.

Non-zero U_{e3} and TeV-Leptogenesis through A_4 symmetry breaking

We consider an effective theory with an $SU(2)\times U(1)\times A_{4}\times Z_{2}\times Z_{4}$ symmetry and investigate the possibility of a linking TeV-leptogenesis with a reactor angle $|U_{e3}|$ through spontaneous $A_{4}$ symmetry breaking which is at a scale higher than electroweak scale under the framework of radiative seesaw. It has been shown that tri-bimaximal(TBM) can be obtained by forging vacuum expectation value (VEV) alignment of the $A_{4}$. Especially, one $A_{4}$ triplet scalar field with cut-off scale $Λ$ is added in neutrino Yukawa sector, which is responsible for the deviation of the exact TBM, to explain leptogenesis as well as a non-zero $|U_{e3}|$. Above the scale of $Λ$ the leptonic Yukawa sectors will lead to the exact TBM. We analyze possible spectrums of light neutrinos and their flavor mixing angles corresponding to heavy Majorana neutrino mass ordering, and show that non-resonance leptogenesis at TeV-scale constrained by low energy data is achievable, both analytically as well as numerically. We show that only normal hierarchical spectrum of light neutrino would be strongly favored by the current Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data, and also show that a relatively large $|U_{e3}|$ corresponds to the value of baryon asymmetry $6.2\times10^{-10}$.

Relating Neutrino Masses by dilepton modes of Doubly Charged Scalars

We study a model with Majorana neutrino masses generated through doubly charged scalars at two-loop level. We give explicit relationships between the neutrino masses and the same sign dilepton decays of the doubly charged scalars. In particular, we demonstrate that at the tribimaximal limit of the neutrino mixings, the absolute neutrino masses and Majorana phases can be extracted through the measurements of the dilepton modes at colliders.

Neutrino masses, muon g-2, dark matter, lithium problem, and leptogenesis at TeV-scale

Observational evidences of nonzero neutrino masses and the existence of dark matter request physics beyond standard model. A model with extra scalars and leptonic vector-like fermions is introduced. By imposing a Z_2 symmetry, the neutrino masses as well as anomalous muon magnetic moment can be generated via one-loop effects at TeV-scale. An effort of explaining dark matter, Lithium problem, and leptogenesis is presented. This scenario can be tested at LHC and/or future experiments.
