Uncovering the Corona Virus Map Using Deep Entities and Relationship Models

We extract entities and relationships related to COVID-19 from a corpus of articles related to Corona virus by employing a novel entities and relationship model. The entity recognition and relationship discovery models are trained with a multi-task learning objective on a large annotated corpus. We employ a concept masking paradigm to prevent the evolution of neural networks functioning as an associative memory and induce right inductive bias guiding the network to make inference using only the context. We uncover several import subnetworks, highlight important terms and concepts and elucidate several treatment modalities employed in related ailments in the past.

Model-free measure of coupling from embedding principle

A model-free measure of coupling between dynamical variables is built from time series embedding principle. The approach described does not require a mathematical form for the dynamics to be assumed. The approach also does not require density estimation which is an intractable problem in high dimensions. The measure has strict asymptotic bounds and is robust to noise. The proposed approach is used to demonstrate coupling between complex time series from the finance world.

Sparse model from optimal nonuniform embedding of time series

An approach to obtaining a parsimonious polynomial model from time series is proposed. An optimal minimal nonuniform time series embedding schema is used to obtain a time delay kernel. This scheme recursively optimizes an objective functional that eliminates maximum number of false nearest neighbors between successive state space reconstruction cycles. A polynomial basis is then constructed from this time delay kernel. A sparse model from this polynomial basis is obtained by solving a regularized least squares problem. The constraint satisfaction problem is made computationally tractable by keeping the ratio between number of constraints to number of variable small by using fewer samples spanning all regions of the reconstructed state space. This helps the structure selection process from an exponentially large combinatorial search space. A forward stagewise algorithm is then used for fast discovery of the optimization path. Results are presented for Mackey-Glass system.
