Ising model with Curie-Weiss perturbation

Consider the nearest-neighbor Ising model on $Λ_n:=[-n,n]^d\cap\mathbb{Z}^d$ at inverse temperature $β\geq 0$ with free boundary conditions, and let $Y_n(σ):=\sum_{u\inΛ_n}σ_u$ be its total magnetization. Let $X_n$ be the total magnetization perturbed by a critical Curie-Weiss interaction, i.e., \begin{equation*} \frac{d F_{X_n}}{d F_{Y_n}}(x):=\frac{\exp[x^2/\left(2\langle Y_n^2 \rangle_{Λ_n,β}\right)]}{\left\langle\exp[Y_n^2/\left(2\langle Y_n^2\rangle_{Λ_n,β}\right)]\right\rangle_{Λ_n,β}}, \end{equation*} where $F_{X_n}$ and $F_{Y_n}$ are the distribution functions for $X_n$ and $Y_n$ respectively. We prove that for any $d\geq 4$ and $β\in[0,β_c(d)]$ where $β_c(d)$ is the critical inverse temperature, any subsequential limit (in distribution) of $\{X_n/\sqrt{\mathbb{E}\left(X_n^2\right)}:n\in\mathbb{N}\}$ has an analytic density (say, $f_X$) all of whose zeros are pure imaginary, and $f_X$ has an explicit expression in terms of the asymptotic behavior of zeros for the moment generating function of $Y_n$. We also prove that for any $d\geq 1$ and then for $β$ small, \begin{equation*} f_X(x)=K\exp(-C^4x^4), \end{equation*} where $C=\sqrt{Γ(3/4)/Γ(1/4)}$ and $K=\sqrt{Γ(3/4)}/(4Γ(5/4)^{3/2})$. Possible connections between $f_X$ and the high-dimensional critical Ising model with periodic boundary conditions are discussed.

A Gaussian process related to the mass spectrum of the near-critical Ising model

Let $Φ^h(x)$ with $x=(t,y)$ denote the near-critical scaling limit of the planar Ising magnetization field. We take the limit of $Φ^h$ as the spatial coordinate $y$ scales to infinity with $t$ fixed and prove that it is a stationary Gaussian process $X(t)$ whose covariance function is the Laplace transform of a mass spectral measure $ρ$ of the relativistic quantum field theory associated to the Euclidean field $Φ^h$. Our analysis of the small distance/time behavior of the covariance functions of $Φ^h$ and $X(t)$ shows that $ρ$ is finite but has infinite first moment.

Critical Percolation and the Minimal Spanning Tree in Slabs

The minimal spanning forest on $\mathbb{Z}^{d}$ is known to consist of a single tree for $d \leq 2$ and is conjectured to consist of infinitely many trees for large $d$. In this paper, we prove that there is a single tree for quasi-planar graphs such as $\mathbb{Z}^{2}\times {\{0,\ldots,k\}}^{d-2}$. Our method relies on generalizations of the "Gluing Lemma" of arXiv:1401.7130. A related result is that critical Bernoulli percolation on a slab satisfies the box-crossing property. Its proof is based on a new Russo-Seymour-Welsh type theorem for quasi-planar graphs. Thus, at criticality, the probability of an open path from $0$ of diameter $n$ decays polynomially in $n$. This strengthens the result of arXiv:1401.7130, where the absence of an infinite cluster at criticality was first established.

Fixation to Consensus on Tree-related Graphs

We study a continuous time Markov process whose state space consists of an assignment of +1 or -1 to each vertex of a graph G. The graphs that we treat are related to homogeneous trees of degree K $\geq$ 3, such as finite or infinite stacks of such trees. The initial spin configuration is chosen from a Bernoulli product measure with density $θ$ of +1 spins. The system evolves according to an agreement inducing dynamics: each vertex, at rate 1, changes its spin value to agree with the majority of its neighbors. We study the long time behavior of this system and prove that, if $θ$ is close enough to 1, the system reaches fixation to consensus. The geometric percolation-type arguments introduced here may be of independent interest.

Planar Ising magnetization field I. Uniqueness of the critical scaling limit

The aim of this paper is to prove the following result. Consider the critical Ising model on the rescaled grid $a\mathbb{Z}^2$, then the renormalized magnetization field \[Φ^a:=a^{15/8}\sum_{x\in a\mathbb{Z}^2}σ_xδ_x,\] seen as a random distribution (i.e., generalized function) on the plane, has a unique scaling limit as the mesh size $a\searrow0$. The limiting field is conformally covariant.

Coarsening dynamics on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with frozen vertices

We study Markov processes in which $\pm 1$-valued random variables $σ_x(t), x\in \mathbb{Z}^d$, update by taking the value of a majority of their nearest neighbors or else tossing a fair coin in case of a tie. In the presence of a random environment of frozen plus (resp., minus) vertices with density $ρ^+$ (resp., $ρ^-$), we study the prevalence of vertices that are (eventually) fixed plus or fixed minus or flippers (changing forever). Our main results are that, for $ρ^+ >0$ and $ρ^- =0$, all sites are fixed plus, while for $ρ^+ >0$ and $ρ^-$ very small (compared to $ρ^+$), the fixed minus and flippers together do not percolate. We also obtain some results for deterministic placement of frozen vertices.

Fluctuation Bounds For Interface Free Energies in Spin Glasses

We consider the free energy difference restricted to a finite volume for certain pairs of incongruent thermodynamic states (if they exist) in the Edwards-Anderson Ising spin glass at nonzero temperature. We prove that the variance of this quantity with respect to the couplings grows proportionally to the volume in any dimension greater than or equal to two. As an illustration of potential applications, we use this result to restrict the possible structure of Gibbs states in two dimensions.

The voter model chordal interface in two dimensions

Consider the voter model on a box of side length $L$ (in the triangular lattice) with boundary votes fixed forever as type 0 or type 1 on two different halves of the boundary. Motivated by analogous questions in percolation, we study several geometric objects at stationarity, as $L\rightarrow \infty$. One is the interface between the (large -- i.e., boundary connected) 0-cluster and 1-cluster. Another is the set of large "coalescing classes" determined by the coalescing walk process dual to the voter model.

Coarsening in 2D slabs

We study coarsening; that is, the zero-temperature limit of Glauber dynamics in the standard Ising model on slabs S_k = Z^2 x {0, ..., k-1} of all thicknesses k \geq 2 (with free and periodic boundary conditions in the third coordinate). We show that with free boundary conditions, for k \geq 3, some sites fixate for large times and some do not, whereas for k=2, all sites fixate. With periodic boundary conditions, for k \geq 4, some sites fixate and others do not, while for k=2 and 3, all sites fixate.

Planar Ising magnetization field II. Properties of the critical and near-critical scaling limits

In [CGN12], we proved that the renormalized critical Ising magnetization fields $Φ^a:= a^{15/8} \sum_{x\in a\, \Z^2} σ_x \, δ_x$ converge as $a\to 0$ to a random distribution that we denoted by $Φ^\infty$. The purpose of this paper is to establish some fundamental properties satisfied by this $Φ^\infty$ and the near-critical fields $Φ^{\infty,h}$. More precisely, we obtain the following results. \bi [(i)] If $A\subset \C$ is a smooth bounded domain and if $m=m_A := <{Φ^\infty, 1_A}$ denotes the limiting rescaled magnetization in $A$, then there is a constant $c=c_A>0$ such that {equation*} \log \Pb{m > x} \underset{x\to \infty}{\sim} -c \; x^{16}\,.{equation*} In particular, this provides an alternative proof that the field $Φ^\infty$ is non-Gaussian (another proof of this fact would use the $n$-point correlation functions established in \cite{CHI} which do not satisfy Wick's formula). [(ii)] The random variable $m=m_A$ has a smooth {\it density} and one has more precisely the following bound on its Fourier transform: $|\Eb{e^{i\,t m}} |\le e^{- \tilde{c}\, |t|^{16/15}}$. [(iii)] There exists a one-parameter family $Φ^{\infty,h}$ of near-critical scaling limits for the magnetization field in the plane with vanishingly small external magnetic field. \ei

The Brownian Net with Killing

Motivated by its relevance for the study of perturbations of one-dimensional voter models, including stochastic Potts models at low temperature, we consider diffusively rescaled coalescing random walks with branching and killing. Our main result is convergence to a new continuum process, in which the random space-time paths of the Sun-Swart Brownian net are terminated at a Poisson cloud of killing points. We also prove existence of a percolation transition as the killing rate varies. Key issues for convergence are the relations of the discrete model killing points and their Poisson intensity measure to the continuum counterparts.

The Ising magnetization exponent on Z^2 is 1/15

We prove that for the Ising model defined on the plane $\Z^2$ at $β=β_c$, the average magnetization under an external magnetic field $h>0$ behaves exactly like \[{σ_0}_{β_c, h} \asymp h^{\frac 1 {15}}\,. \] The proof, which is surprisingly simple compared to an analogous result for percolation (i.e. that $θ(p)=(p-p_c)^{5/36+o(1)}$ on the triangular lattice \cite{\SmirnovWerner,\KestenScaling}) relies on the GHS inequality as well as the RSW theorem for FK percolation from \cite{\RSWfk}. The use of GHS to obtain inequalities involving critical exponents is not new; in this paper we show how it can be combined with RSW to obtain matching upper and lower bounds for the average magnetization.

Ising (Conformal) Fields and Cluster Area Measures

We provide a representation for the scaling limit of the d=2 critical Ising magnetization field as a (conformal) random field using SLE (Schramm-Loewner Evolution) clusters and associated renormalized area measures. The renormalized areas are from the scaling limit of the critical FK (Fortuin-Kasteleyn) clusters and the random field is a convergent sum of the area measures with random signs. Extensions to off-critical scaling limits, to d=3 and to Potts models are also considered.

Scaling Limits for Minimal and Random Spanning Trees in Two Dimensions

A general formulation is presented for continuum scaling limits of stochastic spanning trees. A spanning tree is expressed in this limit through a consistent collection of subtrees, which includes a tree for every finite set of endpoints in $\R^d$. Tightness of the distribution, as $δ\to 0$, is established for the following two-dimensional examples: the uniformly random spanning tree on $δ\Z^2$, the minimal spanning tree on $δ\Z^2$ (with random edge lengths), and the Euclidean minimal spanning tree on a Poisson process of points in $\R^2$ with density $δ^{-2}$. In each case, sample trees are proven to have the following properties, with probability one with respect to any of the limiting measures: i) there is a single route to infinity (as was known for $δ> 0$), ii) the tree branches are given by curves which are regular in the sense of Hölder continuity, iii) the branches are also rough, in the sense that their Hausdorff dimension exceeds one, iv) there is a random dense subset of $\R^2$, of dimension strictly between one and two, on the complement of which (and only there) the spanning subtrees are unique with continuous dependence on the endpoints, v) branching occurs at countably many points in $\R^2$, and vi) the branching numbers are uniformly bounded. The results include tightness for the loop erased random walk (LERW) in two dimensions. The proofs proceed through the derivation of scale-invariant power bounds on the probabilities of repeated crossings of annuli.
