SSC-UNet: UNet with Self-Supervised Contrastive Learning for Phonocardiography Noise Reduction

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) remains a significant global health concern affecting approximately 1\% of births worldwide. Phonocardiography has emerged as a supplementary tool to diagnose CHD cost-effectively. However, the performance of these diagnostic models highly depends on the quality of the phonocardiography, thus, noise reduction is particularly critical. Supervised UNet effectively improves noise reduction capabilities, but limited clean data hinders its application. The complex time-frequency characteristics of phonocardiography further complicate finding the balance between effectively removing noise and preserving pathological features. In this study, we proposed a self-supervised phonocardiography noise reduction model based on Noise2Noise to enable training without clean data. Augmentation and contrastive learning are applied to enhance its performance. We obtained an average SNR of 12.98 dB after filtering under 10~dB of hospital noise. Classification sensitivity after filtering was improved from 27\% to 88\%, indicating its promising pathological feature retention capabilities in practical noisy environments.

Warm and Cold Dark Matter in Bouncing Universe

Being free from the initial singularity, bouncing cosmology serves as a promising alternative to inflation. However, the entropy production during the post-bounce phase is still unclear. In this work, we use a newly unveiled DM candidate (EQFIDM), which can directly freeze in thermal equilibrium shortly after bounce, to trace the entropy-producing decay process of residual bouncing field (RBF). Specifically, we present a model-independent formalism to obtain all nine possible types of the entropy-producing decay of RBF within a generic bouncing universe, and show that, due to the entropy productions in different types, the particle mass of this new candidate can range from sub-keV scale to super-TeV scale. With current Lyman-$α$ forest observation on linear matter spectrum, we find that, although four types have been excluded, the rest five types, which suggest warm and cold EQFIDM candidates with effective entropy productions, are accommodated with current observation. Then we illustrate how the nature of RBF can be constrained by current observation and investigate the potential of EQFIDM on alleviating small-scale crisis.

Big Bounce Genesis

We report on the possibility to use dark matter particle's mass and its cross section as a smoking gun signal of the existence of a Big Bounce at the early stage in the evolution of our currently observed universe. A model independent study of dark matter production in the pre-bounce contraction and the post-bounce expansion epochs of the bounce universe reveals a new venue for achieving the observed relic abundance of our present universe, in which a significantly smaller amount of dark matter with a smaller cross section -- as compared to the prediction of Standard Cosmology -- is produced and carries the information about the bounce universe evolution. Once the values of dark matter mass and cross section are obtained by direct detection in laboratories, this alternative route becomes a signature of the bounce universe scenario.

Thermal Fluctuations of Dark Matter in Bouncing Cosmology

We investigate the statistical nature of the dark matter particles produced in bouncing cosmology, especially, the evolution of its thermal fluctuations. By explicitly deriving and solving the equation of motion of super-horizon mode, we fully determine the evolution of thermal perturbation of dark matter in a generic bouncing background. And we also show that the evolution of super-horizon modes is stable and will not ruin the background evolution of a generic bouncing universe till the Planck scale. Given no super-horizon thermal perturbation of dark matter appears in standard inflation scenario such as WIMP(-less) miracles, such super-horizon thermal perturbation of dark matter generated during the generic bouncing universe scenario may be significant for testing and distinguishing these two scenario in near future.

Thermally Producing and Weakly Freezing-out Dark Matter in Bouncing Universe

We investigate the production and freeze-out of dark matter with a constant thermally averaged cross-section in a generic bouncing universe framework. Our result shows that, there is a novel avenue that dark matter is produced thermally and take a weakly freezing-out process, besides two previously known cases, the thermally production & strongly freezing-out case and the non-thermally production & weakly freezing-out case, in which the relic abundance of dark matter are inverse and proportional to its cross-section respectively. We calculated the relic abundance of dark matter for this new case, and find its relic abundance is independent of its cross-section. We also present the cosmological constraints on the cross-section and mass relation of dark matter for this new case.

Bound to bounce: a coupled scalar-tachyon model for a smooth bouncing/cyclic universe

We introduce a string-inspired model for a bouncing/cyclic universe, utilizing the scalar-tachyon coupling as well as contribution from curvature in a closed universe. The universe undergoes the locked inflation, tachyon matter dominated rolling expansion, turnaround and contraction, as well as the subsequent deflation and "bounce" in each cycle of the cosmological evolution. We perform extensive analytic and numerical studies of the above evolution process. The minimum size of the universe is nonzero for generic initial values. The smooth bounce are made possible because of the negative contribution to effective energy density by the curvature term. No ghosts are ever generated at any point in the entire evolution of the universe, with the Null, Weak, and Dominant Energy Conditions preserved even at the bounce points, contrary to many bounce models previously proposed. And the Strong Energy Condition is satisfied in periods with tachyon matter domination.

The Scale-invariant Power Spectrum of Primordial Curvature Perturbation in CSTB Cosmos

We investigate the spectrum of cosmological perturbations in a bounce cosmos modeled by a scalar field coupled to the string tachyon field (CSTB cosmos). By explicit computation of its primordial spectral index we show the power spectrum of curvature perturbations, generated during the tachyon matter dominated contraction phase, to be nearly scale invariant. We propose a unified space of parameters for a systematic study of inflationary/bouncing cosmologies. We find that CSTB cosmos is dual--in Wands's sense--to the slow-roll inflation model as can be easily seen from this unified parameter space. Guaranteed by the dynamical attractor behavior of CSTB Cosmos, this scale invariance is free of the fine-tuning problem, in contrast to the slow-roll inflation model.
