Automorphisms and symplectic leaves of Calogero-Moser spaces

We study the symplectic leaves of the subvariety of fixed points of an automorphism of a Calogero-Moser space induced by an element of finite order of the normalizer of the associated complex reflection group $W$. We give a parametrization {\it à la Harish-Chandra} of its symplectic leaves (generalizing earlier works of Bellamy and Losev). This result is inspired by the mysterious relations between the geometry of Calogero-Moser spaces and unipotent representations of finite reductive groups, which will be the theme of a forthcoming paper.

Calogero-Moser spaces vs unipotent representations

Lusztig's classification of unipotent representations of finite reductive groups depends only on the associated Weyl group $W$ (endowed with its Frobenius automorphism). All the structural questions (families, Harish-Chandra series, partition into blocks...) have an answer in a combinatorics that can be entirely built directly from $W$. Over the years, we have noticed that the same combinatorics seems to be encoded in the Poisson geometry of a Calogero-Moser space associated with $W$ (roughly speaking, families correspond to ${\mathbb{C}}^\times$-fixed points, Harish-Chandra series correspond to symplectic leaves, blocks correspond to symplectic leaves in the fixed point subvariety under the action of a root of unity). The aim of this survey is to gather all these observations, state precise conjectures and provide general facts and examples supporting these conjectures.

Cherednik algebras and Calogero-Moser cells

Using the representation theory of Cherednik algebras at $t=0$ and a Galois covering of the Calogero-Moser space, we define the notions of left, right and two-sided Calogero-Moser cells for any finite complex reflection group. To each Caloger-Moser two-sided cell is associated a Calogero-Moser family, while to each Calogero-Moser left cell is associated a Calogero-Moser cellular representation. We study properties of these objects and we conjecture that, whenever the reflection group is real (i.e. is a Coxeter group), these notions coincide with the one of Kazhdan-Lusztig left, right and two-sided cells, Kazhdan-Lusztig families and Kazhdan-Lusztig cellular representations.

Regular automorphisms and Calogero-Moser families

We study the subvariety of fixed points of an automorphism of a Calogero-Moser space induced by a regular element of finite order of the normalizer of the associated complex reflection group $W$. We determine some of (and conjecturally all) the ${\mathbb{C}}^\times$-fixed points of its unique irreducible component of maximal dimension in terms of the character table of $W$. This is inspired by the mysterious relations between the geometry of Calogero-Moser spaces and unipotent representations of finite reductive groups, which will be the theme of a forthcoming paper.

A new family of isolated symplectic singularities with trivial local fundamental group

We construct a new infinite family of 4-dimensional isolated symplectic singularities with trivial local fundamental group, answering a question of Beauville raised in 2000. Three constructions are presented for this family: (1) as singularities in blowups of the quotient of $\mathbb{C}^4$ by the dihedral group of order $2d$, (2) as singular points of Calogero-Moser spaces associated with dihedral groups of order $2d$ at equal parameters, (3) as singularities of a certain Slodowy slice in the $d$-fold cover of the nilpotent cone in ${\mathfrak{sl}}_d$.

K3 surfaces with maximal finite automorphism groups containing $M\_{20}$

It was shown by Mukai that the maximum order of a finite group acting faithfully and symplectically on a K3 surface is $960$ and that the group is isomorphic to the group $M\_{20}$. Then Kondo showed that the maximum order of a finite group acting faithfully on a K3 surface is $3\,840$ and this group contains the Mathieu group $M\_{20}$ with index four. Kondo also showed that there is a unique K3 surface on which this group acts faithfully, which is the Kummer surface $\Km(E\_i\times E\_i)$. In this paper we describe two more K3 surfaces admitting a big finite automorphism group of order $1\,920$, both groups contains $M\_{20}$ as a subgroup of index 2. We show moreover that these two groups and the two K3 surfaces are unique. This result was shown independently by S. Brandhorst and K. Hashimoto in a forthcoming paper, with the aim of classifying all the finite groups acting faithfully on K3 surfaces with maximal symplectic part.

Derived categories and Deligne-Lusztig varieties II

This paper is a continuation and a completion of [BoRo1]. We extend the Jordan decomposition of blocks: we show that blocks of finite groups of Lie type in non-describing characteristic are Morita equivalent to blocks of subgroups associated to isolated elements of the dual group. The key new result is the invariance of the part of the cohomology in a given modular series of Deligne-Lusztig varieties associated to a given Levi subgroup, under certain variations of parabolic subgroups. We also show that the equivalence arises from a splendid Rickard equivalence. Even in the setting of [BoRo1], the finer homotopy equivalence was unknown. As a consequence, the equivalence preserves defect groups and categories of subpairs. We finally determine when Deligne-Lusztig induced representations of tori generate the derived category of representations.

Blocks of the Grothendieck ring of equivariant bundles on a finite group

If $G$ is a finite group, the Grothendieck group ${\mathbf{K}}\_G(G)$ of the category of $G$-equivariant ${\mathbb{C}}$-vector bundles on $G$ (for the action of $G$ on itself by conjugation) is endowed with a structure of (commutative) ring. If $K$ is a sufficiently large extension of ${\mathbb{Q}}\_{\! p}$ and ${\mathcal{O}}$ denotes the integral closure of ${\mathcal{Z}}\_{\! p}$ in $K$, the $K$-algebra $K{\mathbf{K}}\_G(G)=K \otimes\_{\mathbb{Z}} {\mathbf{K}}\_G(G)$ is split semisimple. The aim of this paper is to describe the ${\mathcal{O}}$-blocks of the ${\mathcal{O}}$-algebra ${\mathcal{O}} {\mathbf{K}}\_G(G)$.

Cells and cacti

Let $(W,S)$ be a Coxeter system, let $φ$ be a weight function on $S$ and let ${\mathrm{Cact}}\_W$ denote the associated {\it cactus group}. Following an idea of I. Losev, we construct an action of ${\mathrm{Cact}}\_W \times {\mathrm{Cact}}\_W$ on $W$ which has nice properties with respect to the partition of $W$ into left, right or two-sided cells (under some hypothesis, which hold for instance if $φ$ is constant or if $W$ is finite of rank $\textless{} 5$). It must be noticed that the action depends heavily on $φ$.

Constructible characters and b-invariants

To each finite Coxeter system (W,S) and to each weight function L, Lusztig has defined the notions of constructible characters and of Lusztig families of W, using the so-called J-induction. Whenever L is constant, and using a general argument, Lusztig has shown that all Lusztig family contains a unique character with minimal b-invariant, and that every constructible character contains an irreducible constituent with minimal b-invariant. We show in this paper that this can be generalized to the case where L is not constant: our proof is by a case-by-case analysis.

Hecke algebras with unequal parameters and Vogan's left cell invariants

In 1979, Vogan introduced a generalised $\τ$ -invariant for characterising primitive ideals in enveloping algebras. Via a known dictionary this translates to an invariant of left cells in the sense of Kazhdan and Lusztig. Although it is not a complete invariant, it is extremely useful in describing left cells. Here, we propose a general framework for defining such invariants which also applies to Hecke algebras with unequal parameters.

Cellules de Calogero-Moser

Using the representation theory of Cherednik algebras at t=0 and a Galois covering of the Calogero-Moser space, we define the notions of left, right and two-sided Calogero-Moser cells for any finite complex reflection group.

Calogero-Moser versus Kazhdan-Lusztig cells

In 1979, Kazhdan and Lusztig developed a combinatorial theory associated with Coxeter groups. They defined in particular partitions of the group in left and two-sided cells. In 1983, Lusztig generalized this theory to Hecke algebras of Coxeter groups with unequal parameters. We propose a definition of left cells and two-sided cells for complex reflection groups, based on ramification theory for Calogero-Moser spaces. These spaces have been defined via rational Cherednik algebras by Etingof and Ginzburg. We conjecture that these coincide with Kazhdan-Lusztig cells, for real reflection groups. Counterparts of families of irreducible characters have been studied by Gordon and Martino, and we provide here a version of left cell representations. The Calogero-Moser cells will be studied in details in a forthcoming paper, providing thus several results supporting our conjecture.

Conjugacy classes of involutions and Kazhdan-Lusztig cells

According to an old result of Schützenberger, the involutions in a given two-sided cell of the symmetric group $\SG_n$ are all conjugate. In this paper, we study possible generalisations of this property to other types of Coxeter groups. We show that Schützenberger's result is a special case of a general result on "smooth" two-sided cells. Furthermore, we consider Kottwitz' conjecture concerning the intersections of conjugacy classes of involutions with the left cells in a finite Coxeter group. Our methods lead to a proof of this conjecture for classical types; combined with previous work, this leaves type $E_8$ as the only remaining open case.

A progenerator for representations of SL(n,q) in transverse characteristic

Let G=GL(n,q), SL(n,q) or PGL(n,q) where q is a power of some prime number p, let U denote a Sylow p-subgroup of G and let R be a commutative ring in which p is invertible. Let D(U) denote the derived subgroup of U and let e be the central primitive idempotent of the group algebra RD(U) corresponding to the projection on the invariant RD(U)-submodule. The aim of this note is to prove that the R-algebras RG and eRGe are Morita equivalent (through the natural functor sending an RG-module M to the eRGe-module eM).

Asymptotic lowest two-sided cell

To a Coxeter system $(W,S)$ (with $S$ finite) and a weight function $L : W \to \NM$ is associated a partition of $W$ into Kazhdan-Lusztig (left, right or two-sided) $L$-cells. Let $S^\circ = \{s \in S | L(s)=0\}$, $S^+=\{s \in S | L(s) > 0\}$ and let $C$ be a Kazhdan-Lusztig (left, right or two-sided) $L$-cell. According to the semicontinuity conjecture of the first author, there should exist a positive natural number $m$ such that, for any weight function $L' : W \to \NM$ such that $L(s^+)=L'(s^+) > m L'(s^\circ)$ for all $s^+ \in S^+$ and $s^\circ \in S^\circ$, $C$ is a union of Kazhdan-Lusztig (left, right or two-sided) $L'$-cells. The aim of this paper is to prove this conjecture whenever $(W,S)$ is an affine Weyl group and $C$ is contained in the lowest two-sided $L$-cell.

Some complete intersection symplectic quotients in positive characteristic: invariants of a vector and a covector

Given a linear action of a group $G$ on a $K$-vector space $V$, we consider the invariant ring $K[V \oplus V^*]^G$, where $V^*$ is the dual space. We are particularly interested in the case where $V =\gfq^n$ and $G$ is the group $U_n$ of all upper unipotent matrices or the group $B_n$ of all upper triangular matrices in $\GL_n(\gfq)$. In fact, we determine $\gfq[V \oplus V^*]^G$ for $G = U_n$ and $G =B_n$. The result is a complete intersection for all values of $n$ and $q$. We present explicit lists of generating invariants and their relations. This makes an addition to the rather short list of "doubly parametrized" series of group actions whose invariant rings are known to have a uniform description.
