Conformally invariant proper time with general non-metricity

We show that the definition of proper time for Weyl-invariant space-times given by Perlick naturally extends to spaces with arbitrary non-metricity. We then discuss the relation between this generalized proper time and the Ehlers-Pirani-Schild definition of time when there is arbitrary non-metricity. Then we show how this generalized proper time suffers from a second clock effect. Assuming that muons are a device to measure this proper time, we constrain the non-metricity tensor on Earth's surface and then elaborate on the feasibility of such assumption.

Search for light mediators in the low-energy data of the CONNIE reactor neutrino experiment

The CONNIE experiment is located at a distance of 30 m from the core of a commercial nuclear reactor, and has collected a 3.7 kg-day exposure using a CCD detector array sensitive to an $\sim$1 keV threshold for the study of coherent neutrino-nucleus elastic scattering. Here we demonstrate the potential of this low-energy neutrino experiment as a probe for physics Beyond the Standard Model, by using the recently published results to constrain two simplified extensions of the Standard Model with light mediators. We compare the new limits with those obtained for the same models using neutrinos from the Spallation Neutron Source. Our new constraints represent the best limits for these simplified models among the experiments searching for CE$ν$NS for a light vector mediator with mass $M_{Z^{\prime}}<$ 10 MeV, and for a light scalar mediator with mass $M_ϕ<$ 30 MeV. These results constitute the first use of the CONNIE data as a probe for physics Beyond the Standard Model.

Is Weyl unified theory wrong or incomplete?

In 1918, H. Weyl proposed a unified theory of gravity and electromagnetism based on a generalization of Riemannian geometry. In spite of its elegance and beauty, a serious objection was raised by Einstein, who argued that Weyl's theory was not suitable as a physical theory . According to Einstein, the theory led to the prediction of a "second clock effect", which is not observed by experiments. We briefly revisit this point and argue that a preliminary discussion on the very notion of proper time is needed in order to consider Einstein's critical point of view.

On Weyl cosmology in five dimensions and the cosmological constant

In this talk notes we expose the possibility to induce the cosmological constant from extra dimensions, in a geometrical framework where our four-dimensional Riemannian space-time is embedded into a five-dimensional Weyl integrable space. In particular following the approach of the induced matter theory, we show that when go down from five to four dimensions, we may recover in the context of the general theory of relativity, the induced energy momentum tensor of the induced matter theory plus a cosmological constant term, that is determined by the presence of the Weyl scalar field on the bulk.

$D$-Dimensional Gravity from $(D+1)$ Dimensions

We generalise Wesson's procedure, whereby vacuum $(4+1)-$dimensional field equations give rise to $(3+1)-$dimensional equations with sources, to arbitrary dimensions. We then employ this generalisation to relate the usual $(3+1)-$dimensional vacuum field equations to $(2+1)-$dimensional field equations with sources and derive the analogues of the classes of solutions obtained by Ponce de Leon. This way of viewing lower dimensional gravity theories can be of importance in establishing a relationship between such theories and the usual 4-dimensional general relativity, as well as giving a way of producing exact solutions in $(2+1)$ dimensions that are naturally related to the vacuum $(3+1)-$dimensional solutions. An outcome of this correspondence, regarding the nature of lower dimensional gravity, is that the intuitions obtained in $(3+1)$ dimensions may not be automatically transportable to lower dimensions. We also extend a number of physically motivated solutions studied by Wesson and Ponce de Leon to $(D+1)$ dimensions and employ the equivalence between the $(D+1)$ Kaluza-Klein theories with empty $D-$dimensional Brans-Dicke theories (with $ω=0$) to throw some light on the solutions derived by these authors.
