Fermionic and bosonic fluctuation-dissipation theorem from a deformed AdS holographic model at finite temperature and chemical potential

In this work we study fluctuations and dissipation of a string in a deformed anti-de Sitter (AdS) space at finite temperature and density. The deformed AdS space is a charged black hole solution of the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton action. In this background we take into account the backreaction on the horizon function from an exponential deformation of the AdS space. From this model we compute the admittance and study the influence of the temperature and the chemical potential on it. We calculate the two-point correlations functions, and the mean square displacement for bosonic and fermionic cases, from which we obtain the short and large time approximations. For the long time, we obtain a sub-diffusive regime $\sim \log t$. Combining the results from the admittance and the correlations functions we check the fluctuation-dissipation theorem for bosonic and fermionic systems.

Two-photon spontaneous emission of an atom in a cosmic string background

It is well known that the vicinities of an atomic system may substantially affect its radiative properties. In this work, we consider the influence of a cosmic string background in the spontaneous emission of an excited atom. We start by computing the one-photon spontaneous emission rate of a quantum emitter, which is a narrow band process, and then we analyze the more complex case of the two-photon spontaneous emission, which is a broad band and much richer phenomenon. In the former case, we analyze not only the behavior of the decay rate with the distance from the atom to the string, but also with the deficit angle associated with the cosmic string metric. In the latter case, we show that the spectral distribution of the emitted photons is substantially affected by the cosmic string background.

Fluctuation and dissipation within a deformed holographic model with backreaction

In this work we study the fluctuation and dissipation of a string attached to a brane in a deformed and backreated AdS-Schwarzschild spacetime. This space is a solution of Einstein-dilaton equations and contains a conformal exponential factor $\exp(k/r^2)$ in the metric. We consider the backreaction contributions coming only from the exponential warp factor on the AdS-Schwarzschild black hole, where the string and brane are in the probe approximation. Within this Lorentz invariant holographic model we have computed the admittance, the diffusion coefficient, the two-point functions and the regularized mean square displacement $s^2_{reg}$. From this quantity we obtain the diffuse and ballistic regimes characteristic of the Brownian motion. From the two-point functions and the admittance, we also have checked the well know fluctuation-dissipation theorem in this set up.

Functional equations for regularized zeta-functions and diffusion processes

We discuss modifications in the integral representation of the Riemann zeta-function that lead to generalizations of the Riemann functional equation that preserves the symmetry $s\to (1-s)$ in the critical strip. By modifying one integral representation of the zeta-function with a cut-off that does exhibit the symmetry $x\mapsto 1/x$, we obtain a generalized functional equation involving Bessel functions of second kind. Next, with another cut-off that does exhibit the same symmetry, we obtain a generalization for the functional equation involving only one Bessel function of second kind. Some connection between one regularized zeta-function and the Laplace transform of the heat kernel for the Euclidean and hyperbolic space is discussed.

Vanishing DC holographic conductivity from a magnetic monopole condensate

We show how to obtain a vanishing DC conductivity in 3-dimensional strongly coupled QFT's using a massive 2-form field in the bulk that satisfies a special kind of boundary condition. The real and imaginary parts of the AC conductivity are evaluated in this holographic setup and we show that the DC conductivity identically vanishes even for an arbitrarily small (though nonzero) value of the 2-form mass in the bulk. We identify the bulk action of the massive 2-form with an effective theory describing a phase in which magnetic monopoles have condensed in the bulk. Our results indicate that a condensate of magnetic monopoles in a 4-dimensional bulk leads to a vanishing DC holographic conductivity in 3-dimensional strongly coupled QFT's.

Hořava-Lifshitz Quantum Cosmology

In this work, a minisuperspace model for the projectable Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity without the detailed balance condition is investigated. The Wheeler-deWitt equation is derived and its solutions are studied and discussed for some particular cases where, due to HL gravity, there is a "potential barrier" nearby $a=0$. For a vanishing cosmological constant, it is found a normalizable wave function of the universe. When the cosmological constant is non-vanishing, the WKB method is used to obtain solutions for the wave function of the universe. Using the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, one discusses how the transition from quantum to classical regime occurs and, for the case of a positive cosmological constant, the scale factor is shown to grow exponentially, hence recovering the GR behaviour for the late universe.

Noncommutative effects in astrophysical objects: a survey

The main implications of noncommutativity over astrophysical objects are examined. Noncommutativity is introduced through a deformed dispersion relation $E^{2}=p^{2}c^{2}(1+λE)^{2} + m^{2}c^{4}$ and the relevant thermodynamical quantities are calculated using the grand canonical ensemble formalism. These results are applied to simple physical models describing main-sequence stars, white-dwarfs and neutron stars. The stability of main-sequence stars and white dwarfs is discussed.

Towards a Noncommutative Astrophysics

We consider astrophysical objects such as main-sequence stars, white-dwarfs and neutron stars in a noncommutative context. Noncommutativity is implemented via a deformed dispersion relation $E^{2}=p^{2}c^{2}(1+λE)^{2}+m^{2}c^{4}$ from which we obtain noncommutative corrections to the pressure, particle number and energy densities for radiation and for a degenerate fermion gas. The main implications of noncommutativity for the considered astrophysical objects are examined and discussed.

Stability Conditions For a Noncommutative Scalar Field Coupled to Gravity via the Positive Energy Theorem

The stability requirements for a noncommutative scalar field coupled to gravity is investigated through the positive energy theorem. It is shown that for a noncommutative scalar with a polynomial potential, the stability conditions are similar to the ones for the commutative case. This result remains valid even whether the space-time has horizons.
