On mild solutions to some dissipative SPDEs on $L^p$ spaces with additive noise

We establish well-posedness in the mild sense for a class of stochastic semilinear evolution equations on $L^p$ spaces on bounded domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$ with a nonlinear drift term given by the superposition operator generated by a monotone function on the real line with power-like growth. The noise is of additive type with respect to a cylindrical Wiener process, with diffusion coefficient not necessarily of $γ$-Radonifying type.

On pointwise Malliavin differentiability of solutions to semilinear parabolic SPDEs

We obtain estimates on the first-order Malliavin derivative of mild solutions, evaluated at fixed points in time and space, to a class of parabolic dissipative stochastic PDEs on bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^d$. In particular, such equations are driven by multiplicative Wiener noise and the nonlinear drift term is the superposition operator associated to a locally Lipschitz continuous function satisfying suitable polynomial growth bounds. The main arguments rely on the well-posedness theory in the mild sense for stochastic evolution equations in Banach spaces, monotonicity, and a comparison principle.

On the differentiability of solutions to singularly perturbed SPDEs

We consider semilinear stochastic evolution equations on Hilbert spaces with multiplicative Wiener noise and linear drift term of the type $A + \varepsilon G$, with $A$ and $G$ maximal monotone operators and $\varepsilon$ a "small" parameter, and study the differentiability of mild solutions with respect to $\varepsilon$. The operator $G$ can be a singular perturbation of $A$, in the sense that its domain can be strictly contained in the domain of $A$.

Singular perturbations and asymptotic expansions for SPDEs with an application to term structure models

We study the dependence of mild solutions to linear stochastic evolution equations on Hilbert space driven by Wiener noise, with drift having linear part of the type $A+\varepsilon G$, on the parameter $\varepsilon$. In particular, we study the limit and the asymptotic expansions in powers of $\varepsilon$ of these solutions, as well as of functionals thereof, as $\varepsilon \to 0$, with good control on the remainder. These convergence and series expansion results are then applied to a parabolic perturbation of the Musiela SPDE of mathematical finance modeling the dynamics of forward rates.

Positivity of mild solution to stochastic evolution equations with an application to forward rates

We prove a maximum principle for mild solutions to stochastic evolution equations with (locally) Lipschitz coefficients and Wiener noise on weighted $L^2$ spaces. As an application, we provide sufficient conditions for the positivity of forward rates in the Heath-Jarrow-Morton model, considering the associated Musiela SPDE on a homogeneous weighted Sobolev space.

Ergodicity and Kolmogorov equations for dissipative SPDEs with singular drift: a variational approach

We prove existence of invariant measures for the Markovian semigroup generated by the solution to a parabolic semilinear stochastic PDE whose nonlinear drift term satisfies only a kind of symmetry condition on its behavior at infinity, but no restriction on its growth rate is imposed. Thanks to strong integrability properties of invariant measures $μ$, solvability of the associated Kolmogorov equation in $L^1(μ)$ is then established, and the infinitesimal generator of the transition semigroup is identified as the closure of the Kolmogorov operator. A key role is played by a generalized variational setting.

On well-posedness of semilinear stochastic evolution equations on $L_p$ spaces

We establish well-posedness in the mild sense for a class of stochastic semilinear evolution equations on $L_p$ spaces, driven by multiplicative Wiener noise, with a drift term given by an evaluation operator that is assumed to be quasi-monotone and polynomially growing, but not necessarily continuous. In particular, we consider a notion of mild solution ensuring that the evaluation operator applied to the solution is still function-valued, but satisfies only minimal integrability conditions. The proofs rely on stochastic calculus in Banach spaces, monotonicity and convexity techniques, and weak compactness in $L_1$ spaces.

On maximal inequalities for purely discontinuous $L_q$-valued martingales

We prove maximal inequalities for $L_q$-valued martingales obtained by stochastic integration with respect to compensated random measures. A version of these estimates for integrals with respect to compensated Poisson random measures were first obtained by Dirksen (arXiv:1208:3885) using arguments based on inequalities for sums of independent Banach-space-valued random variables, geometric properties of Banach spaces, and decoupling inequalities. Our proofs are completely different and rely almost exclusively on classical stochastic analysis for real semimartingales.

On maximal inequalities for purely discontinuous martingales in infinite dimensions

The purpose of this paper is to give a survey of a class of maximal inequalities for purely discontinuous martingales, as well as for stochastic integral and convolutions with respect to Poisson measures, in infinite dimensional spaces. Such maximal inequalities are important in the study of stochastic partial differential equations with noise of jump type.

On the relation between forecast precision and trading profitability of financial analysts

We analyze the relation between earning forecast accuracy and expected profitability of financial analysts. Modeling forecast errors with a multivariate Gaussian distribution, a complete characterization of the payoff of each analyst is provided. In particular, closed-form expressions for the probability density function, for the expectation, and, more generally, for moments of all orders are obtained. Our analysis shows that the relationship between forecast precision and trading profitability need not to be monotonic, and that, for any analyst, the impact on his expected payoff of the correlation between his forecasts and those of the other market participants depends on the accuracy of his signals. Furthermore, our model accommodates a unique full-communication equilibrium in the sense of Radner (1979): if all information is reflected in the market price, then the expected payoff of all market participants is equal to zero.

Approximation and convergence of solutions to semilinear stochastic evolution equations with jumps

We prove that the mild solution to a semilinear stochastic evolution equation on a Hilbert space, driven by either a square integrable martingale or a Poisson random measure, is (jointly) continuous, in a suitable topology, with respect to the initial datum and all coefficients. In particular, if the leading linear operators are maximal (quasi-)monotone and converge in the strong resolvent sense, the drift and diffusion coefficients are uniformly Lipschitz continuous and converge pointwise, and the initial data converge, then the solutions converge.

Existence and regularity of the density for the solution to semilinear dissipative parabolic SPDEs

We prove existence and smoothness of the density of the solution to a nonlinear stochastic heat equation on $L^2(\mathcal{O})$ (evaluated at fixed points in time and space), where $\mathcal{O}$ is an open bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$. The equation is driven by an additive Wiener noise and the nonlinear drift term is the superposition operator associated to a real function which is assumed to be (maximal) monotone, continuously differentiable, and growing not faster than a polynomial. The proof uses tools of the Malliavin calculus combined with methods coming from the theory of maximal monotone operators.

On smoothing properties of transition semigroups associated to a class of SDEs with jumps

We prove smoothing properties of nonlocal transition semigroups associated to a class of stochastic differential equations (SDE) driven by additive pure-jump Lévy noise. In particular, we assume that the Lévy process driving the SDE is the sum of a subordinated Wiener process and of an independent arbitrary Lévy process, that the drift coefficient is continuous (but not necessarily Lipschitz continuous) and grows not faster than a polynomial, and that the SDE admits a Feller weak solution. By a combination of probabilistic and analytic methods, we provide sufficient conditions for the Markovian semigroup associated to the SDE to be strong Feller and to map $L_p$ to continuous bounded functions. A key intermediate step is the study of regularizing properties of the transition semigroup associated to the subordinated Wiener process in terms of negative moments of the subordinator.

Multivariate heavy-tailed models for Value-at-Risk estimation

For purposes of Value-at-Risk estimation, we consider several multivariate families of heavy-tailed distributions, which can be seen as multidimensional versions of Paretian stable and Student's t distributions allowing different marginals to have different tail thickness. After a discussion of relevant estimation and simulation issues, we conduct a backtesting study on a set of portfolios containing derivative instruments, using historical US stock price data.

Quantitative approximations of evolving probability measures and sequential Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods

We study approximations of evolving probability measures by an interacting particle system. The particle system dynamics is a combination of independent Markov chain moves and importance sampling/resampling steps. Under global regularity conditions, we derive non-asymptotic error bounds for the particle system approximation. In a few simple examples, including high dimensional product measures, bounds with explicit constants of feasible size are obtained. Our main motivation are applications to sequential MCMC methods for Monte Carlo integral estimation.

Well-posedness for a class of dissipative stochastic evolution equations with Wiener and Poisson noise

We prove existence and uniqueness of mild and generalized solutions for a class of stochastic semilinear evolution equations driven by additive Wiener and Poisson noise. The non-linear drift term is supposed to be the evaluation operator associated to a continuous monotone function satisfying a polynomial growth condition. The results are extensions to the jump-diffusion case of the corresponding ones proved in [4] for equations driven by purely discontinuous noise.

On uniqueness of mild solutions for dissipative stochastic evolution equations

In the semigroup approach to stochastic evolution equations, the fundamental issue of uniqueness of mild solutions is often "reduced" to the much easier problem of proving uniqueness for strong solutions. This reduction is usually carried out in a formal way, without really justifying why and how one can do that. We provide sufficient conditions for uniqueness of mild solutions to a broad class of semilinear stochastic evolution equations with coefficients satisfying a monotonicity assumption.

Well-posedness and asymptotic behavior for stochastic reaction-diffusion equations with multiplicative Poisson noise

We establish well-posedness in the mild sense for a class of stochastic semilinear evolution equations with a polynomially growing quasi-monotone nonlinearity and multiplicative Poisson noise. We also study existence and uniqueness of invariant measures for the associated semigroup in the Markovian case. A key role is played by a new maximal inequality for stochastic convolutions in $L_p$ spaces.

Variational inequalities in Hilbert spaces with measures and optimal stopping problems

We study the existence theory for parabolic variational inequalities in weighted $L^2$ spaces with respect to excessive measures associated with a transition semigroup. We characterize the value function of optimal stopping problems for finite and infinite dimensional diffusions as a generalized solution of such a variational inequality. The weighted $L^2$ setting allows us to cover some singular cases, such as optimal stopping for stochastic equations with degenerate diffusion coefficient. As an application of the theory, we consider the pricing of American-style contingent claims. Among others, we treat the cases of assets with stochastic volatility and with path-dependent payoffs.
