Spectra of heavy quarkonia in a Bethe-Salpeter-equation approach

In a covariant Bethe-Salpeter-equation approach and with a rainbow-ladder truncated model of QCD, we investigate the use of an effective interaction with the goal of reproducing QCD phenomenology. We extend previous studies and present results for ground and excited meson states in the bottomonium and charmonium systems, where the results are surprisingly good for most states. In addition, we formulate a critical outlook on states with exotic quantum numbers as well as the light-quark domain.

Heavy tetraquark confining potential in Coulomb gauge QCD

We present an analytic nonperturbative solution of the Yakubovsky equation for tetraquark states in the case of equal separations and energies, and demonstrate a direct connection between the tetraquark confinement potential and the temporal gluon propagator. To this end we employ a leading-order heavy quark mass expansion of the Coulomb gauge QCD action, and use the dressed two-point functions of the Yang-Mills sector only. As a result we find a bound state energy that rises linear with distance and a string tension twice as large as in a $q\bar{q}$-system.

Dyson-Schwinger approach to strongly coupled theories

Although nonperturbative functional methods are often associated with low energy Quantum Chromodynamics, contemporary studies indicate that they provide reliable tools to characterize a much wider spectrum of strongly interacting many-body systems. In this review, we aim to provide a modest overview on a few notable applications of Dyson-Schwinger equations to QCD and condensed matter physics. After a short introduction, we lay out some formal considerations and proceed by addressing the confinement problem. We discuss in some detail the heavy quark limit of Coulomb gauge QCD, in particular the simple connection between the nonperturbative Green's functions of Yang-Mills theory and the confinement potential. Landau gauge results on the infrared Yang-Mills propagators are also briefly reviewed. We then focus on less common applications, in graphene and high-temperature superconductivity. We discuss recent developments, and present theoretical predictions that are supported by experimental findings.

Nonperturbative study of the four-point heavy quark Green's functions in Coulomb gauge

The heavy quark sector of Coulomb gauge QCD is investigated, by making a heavy quark mass expansion of the QCD action and restricting to the leading order. With the truncation of the Yang-Mills sector to include only dressed two-point functions, we study the Dyson-Schwinger equations for the four-point quark Green's functions (proper and amputated). In this limit, we provide an exact solution for the four-point quark Green's functions and show that the corresponding poles relate to the bound state energy of the heavy quark system. Moreover, a natural separation between the physical and unphysical poles in the Green's functions emerges.

Quark sector of Coulomb gauge Quantum Chromodynamics

The quark sector of Coulomb gauge quantum chromodynamics is considered within the functional integral approach. The quark contributions to the Dyson-Schwinger equations are derived and one-loop perturbative results for the two-point functions are presented. The problem of confinement is addressed in the heavy quark limit, by rewriting the generating functional of quantum chromodynamics in terms of a heavy quark mass expansion. By restricting to leading order in this expansion and considering only the two-point functions of the Yang-Mills sector, the rainbow-ladder approximation to the gap and Bethe-Salpeter equations is shown to be exact. Analytic nonperturbative solutions to the Bethe-Salpeter equation for quark-antiquark bound states and Faddeev equation for three-quark bound states, in the case of equal quark separations, are presented. The quark-antiquark and three-quark confining potentials are derived and a direct connection between the temporal gluon propagator and the corresponding string tensions is found. It is shown that only color singlet of quark-antiquark (meson) and qqq (baryon) states are physically allowed. Moreover, the four-point Green's functions, in both quark-antiquark and diquark channels, are explicitly derived. It is found that the corresponding poles relate to the bound state energy of the heavy quark systems, and a natural separation between physical and unphysical poles in the Green's functions emerges.

Heavy quarks, gluons and the confinement potential in Coulomb gauge

We consider the heavy quark limit of Coulomb gauge QCD, with the truncation of the Yang-Mills sector to include only (dressed) two-point functions. We find that the rainbow-ladder approximation to the gap and Bethe-Salpeter equations is nonperturbatively exact and moreover, we provide a direct connection between the temporal gluon propagator and the quark confinement potential. Further, we show that only bound states of color singlet quark-antiquark (meson) and quark-quark (SU(2) baryon) pairs are physically allowed.
