Observation of multi Dirac fermion cloning induced by moiré potential in graphene-SiC heterostructure

We reexamine the electronic structure of graphene on SiC substrate by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We directly observed multiply cloning of Dirac cone, in addition to ones previously attributed to reconstruction. The locations, relative distances and anisotropy of Dirac cone replicas fully agree with the moiré pattern of graphene-SiC heterostructure. Our results provide a straightforward example of moiré potential modulation in engineering electronic structure with Dirac fermions.

The effects of spin fluctuations on the tunneling spectroscopy in High-T_c Superconductors

We investigate the effects of spin fluctuations on the tunneling spectra of the NS junction. In the high junction resistance limit, the dip/hump structure observed in ARPES data for the high Tc superconductors is reproduced in a RPA treatment of the t-t'-J model. It is shown that the dip/hump structure weakens as doping increases as reflected in the data. In the other limit, we predict that the zero bias Andreev peak can coexist with the dip/hump structure. Furthermore, the c-axis tunneling spectra is found to be very similar to a recent STM data once these fluctuations are included.

Z=110--111 Elements and the Stability of Heavy and Superheavy Elements

The recent discovery of isotopes with Z=110--111 suggests evidence for (1) a monopole--monopole interaction that does not appear explicitly in Nilsson--Strutinsky mass systematics, and (2) a competition between $SU(2)$ and $SU(3)$ dynamical symmetries that has been predicted for this region. Our calculations suggest that these new isotopes are near spherical, and may represent a true island of superheavy nuclei, but shifted downward in neutron number by these new physical effects.
