The 5-dimensional Langevin approach to fission of atomic nuclei

We have generalized the four-dimensional Langevin approach used in our previous works for the description of fission process to the five-dimensional by considering the neck parameter $\eps$ in the two-center shell model shape parametrization as an independent dynamical variable. The calculated results for the mass distribution of fission fragments are in better agreement with the available experimental data. In particular, the transition from the mass-symmetric to mass-asymmetric fission via the triple-humped distribution in fission of Thorium isotopes is well reproduced.

CompOSE Reference Manual

CompOSE (CompStar Online Supernovae Equations of State) is an online repository of equations of state (EoS) for use in nuclear physics and astrophysics, e.g., in the description of compact stars or the simulation of core-collapse supernovae and neutron-star mergers, see http://compose.obspm.fr. The main services, offered via the website, are: a collection of data tables in a flexible and easily extendable data format for different EoS types and related physical quantities with extensive documentation and referencing; software for download to extract and to interpolate these data and to calculate additional quantities; webtools to generate EoS tables that are customized to the needs of the users and to illustrate dependencies of various EoS quantities in graphical form. This manual is an update of previous versions that are available on the CompOSE website, at arXiv:1307.5715 [astro-ph.SR], and that was originally published in the journal "Physics of Particles and Nuclei" with doi:10.1134/S1063779615040061. It contains a detailed description of the service, containing a general introduction as well as instructions for potential contributors and for users. Short versions of the manual for EoS users and providers will also be available as separate publications.

Fission of super-heavy elements: $^{132}$Sn-plus-the-rest, or $^{208}$Pb-plus-the-rest ?

In this work we try to settle down the controversial predictions on the effect of doubly magic nuclei $^{132}$Sn and $^{208}$Pb on the mass distributions of fission fragments of super-heavy nuclei. For this we have calculated the mass distribution of super-heavy nuclei from $^{286}$Cn to $^{306}$122 within the dynamical 4-dimensional Langevin approach. We have found that in "light" super-heavies the influence of $^{208}$Pb on the mass distributions is present but negligible small. In "heavy" super-heavies, Z=120-122, the (quasi)symmetric peaks and strongly asymmetric peaks at fragment mass $A_F$ close to $A_F$=208 are of comparable magnitude.

Emergence of hyperons in failed supernovae: trigger of the black hole formation

We investigate the emergence of strange baryons in the dynamical collapse of a non-rotating massive star to a black hole by the neutrino-radiation hydrodynamical simulations in general relativity. By following the dynamical formation and collapse of nascent proto-neutron star from the gravitational collapse of a 40Msun star adopting a new hyperonic EOS table, we show that the hyperons do not appear at the core bounce but populate quickly at ~0.5-0.7 s after the bounce to trigger the re-collapse to a black hole. They start to show up off center owing to high temperatures and later prevail at center when the central density becomes high enough. The neutrino emission from the accreting proto-neutron star with the hyperonic EOS stops much earlier than the corresponding case with a nucleonic EOS while the average energies and luminosities are quite similar between them. These features of neutrino signal are a potential probe of the emergence of new degrees of freedom inside the black hole forming collapse.
