Femtoscopic study of coupled-channel $NΞ$ and $ΛΛ$ interactions

The momentum correlation functions of S = -2 baryon pairs (p Xi^- and Lambda Lambda) produced in high-energy pp and pA collisions are investigated on the basis of the coupled-channel formalism. The strong interaction is described by the coupled-channel HAL QCD potential obtained by the lattice QCD simulations near physical quark masses, while the hadronic source function is taken to be a static Gaussian form. The coupled-channel effect, the threshold difference, the realistic strong interaction, and the Coulomb interaction are fully taken into account for the first time in the femtoscopic analysis of baryon-baryon correlations. The characteristic features of the experimental data for the p Xi^- and Lambda Lambda pairs at LHC are reproduced quantitatively with a suitable choice of non-femtoscopic parameters and the source size. The agreement between theory and experiment indicates that the N Xi (Lambda Lambda) interaction is moderately (weakly) attractive without having a quasi-bound (bound) state.

Interplay between disorder and inversion symmetry: Extreme enhancement of the mobility near the Weyl point in BiTeI

We show experimental and theoretical evidence that BiTeI hosts a novel disordered metallic state named diffusive helical Fermi liquid (DHFL), characterized by a pair of concentric spin-chiral Fermi surfaces with negligible inter-valley scattering. Key experimental observations are extreme disparity of the mobility between inner and outer helical Fermi surfaces near the Weyl point and existence of the so called universal scaling behavior for the Hall resistivity. Although the extreme enhancement of the inner-Fermi-surface mobility near the Weyl point is quantitatively explained within the self-consistent Born approximation, the existence of universal scaling in the Hall resistivity shows its breakdown, implying necessity of mass renormalization in the inner Fermi-surface beyond the independent electron picture.

Isovector potential of $Σ$ in nuclei and neutron star matter

We determine the coupling constants of $Σ$ hyperon with mesons in relativistic mean field (RMF) models using $Σ^-$ atomic shift data and examine the effects of $Σ$ on the neutron star maximum mass. We find that we need to reduce the vector-isovector meson coupling with $Σ$ ($g_{ρΣ}$) from the value constrained by the SU(3)v symmetry in order to explain the $Σ^-$ atomic shifts for light symmetric and heavy asymmetric nuclei simultaneously. With the atomic shift fit value of $g_{ρΣ}$, $Σ^-$ can emerge in neutron star matter overcoming the repulsive isoscalar potential for $Σ$ hyperons. Admixture of $Σ^-$ in neutron stars is found to reduce the neutron star maximum mass slightly.

Dirac vs. Weyl in topological insulators: Adler-Bell-Jackiw anomaly in transport phenomena

Dirac metals (gapless semi-conductors) are believed to turn into Weyl metals when perturbations, which break either time reversal symmetry or inversion symmetry, are employed. However, no experimental evidence has been reported for the existence of Weyl fermions in three dimensions. Applying magnetic fields near the topological phase transition from a topological insulator to a band insulator in Bi1-xSbx, we observe not only the weak anti-localization phenomenon in magnetoconductivity near zero magnetic fields (B < 0.4 T) but also its upturn above 0.4 T only for E // B. This incompatible coexistence between weak anti-localization and negative magnetoresistivity is attributed to the Adler-Bell-Jackiw anomaly (topological E B term) in the presence of weak anti-localization corrections.

Exotic hadrons and hadron-hadron interactions in heavy ion collisions

We discuss the exotic hadron structure and hadron-hadron interactions in view of heavy ion collisions. First, we demonstrate that a hadronic molecule with a large spatial size would be produced more abundantly in the coalescence model compared with the statistical model result. Secondly, we constrain the Lambda-Lambda interaction by using the recently measured Lambda-Lambda correlation data. We find that the RHIC-STAR data favor the Lambda-Lambda scattering parameters in the range 1/a_0 <= -0.8 fm^{-1} and r_{eff} >= 3 fm.

Functional Renormalization Group Study of Phonon Mode Effects on Chiral Critical Point

We apply the functional renormalization-group (FRG) equation to analyze the nature of the QCD critical point beyond the mean-field approximation by taking into consideration the fact that the soft mode associated with the QCD critical point is a linear combination of fluctuations of the chiral condensate and the quark-number density, rather than the pure chiral fluctuations. We first construct an extended quark-meson model in which a new field corresponding to quark-number density is introduced to the conventional one composed of the chiral fields sigma, pi and the quarks. The fluctuations of the quark-number density as well as the chiral condensate are taken into account by solving the FRG equation which contains sigma and the new field as coupled dynamical variables. It is found that the mixing of the two dynamical variables causes a kind of level repulsion between the curvature masses, which in turn leads to an expansion of the critical region of the QCD critical point, depending on the coupling constants in the model yet to be determined from microscopic theories or hopefully by experiments.

Topological phase transitions driven by magnetic phase transitions in FexBi2Te3 (0 < x < 0.1) single crystals

We propose a phase diagram for FexBi2Te3 (0 < x < 0.1) single crystals, which belong to a class of magnetically bulk-doped topological insulators. The evolution of magnetic correlations from ferromagnetic- to antiferromagnetic- gives rise to topological phase transitions, where the paramagnetic topological insulator of Bi2Te3 turns into a band insulator with ferromagnetic-cluster glassy behaviours around x ~ 0.025, and it further evolves to a topological insulator with valence-bond glassy behaviours, which spans over the region between x ~ 0.03 up to x ~ 0.1. This phase diagram is verified by measuring magnetization, magnetotransport, and angle-resolved photoemission spectra with theoretical discussions.

QCD critical point in the strong coupling lattice QCD and during black hole formation

We discuss the QCD phase diagram from two different point of view. We first investigate the phase diagram structure in the strong coupling lattice QCD with Polyakov loop effects, and show that the the chiral and Z_{N_c} deconfinement transition boundaries deviate at finite mu as suggested from large N_c arguments. Next we discuss the possibility to probe the QCD critical point during prompt black hole formation processes. The thermodynamical evolution during the black hole formation would result in quark matter formation, and the critical point in isospin asymmetric matter may be swept. (T,mu_B) region probed in heavy-ion collisions and the black hole formation processes covers most of the critical point locations predicted in recent lattice Monte-Carlo simulations and chiral effective models.

Possibility of QCD critical point sweep during black hole formation

We discuss the possibility to probe the QCD critical point during the dynamical black hole formation from a gravitational collapse of a massive star, where the temperature and the baryon chemical potential become as high as T ~ 90 MeV and $μ_B$ ~ 1300 MeV. Comparison with the phase boundary in chiral effective models suggests that quark matter is likely to be formed before the horizon is formed. Furthermore, the QCD critical point may be probed during the black hole formation. The critical point is found to move in the lower temperature direction in asymmetric nuclear matter, and in some of the chiral models it is found to be in the reachable region during the black hole formation processes.

Sondheimer Oscillation as a Fingerprint of Surface Dirac Fermions

Topological states of matter challenge the paradigm of symmetry breaking, characterized by gapless boundary modes and protected by the topological property of the ground state. Recently, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) has revealed that semiconductors of Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$ and Bi$_{2}$Te$_{3}$ belong to such a class of materials. Here, we present undisputable evidence for the existence of gapless surface Dirac fermions from transport in Bi$_{2}$Te$_{3}$. We observe Sondheimer oscillation in magnetoresistance (MR). This oscillation originates from the quantization of motion due to the confinement of electrons within the surface layer. Based on Sondheimer's transport theory, we determine the thickness of the surface state from the oscillation data. In addition, we uncover the topological nature of the surface state, fitting consistently both the non-oscillatory part of MR and the Hall resistance. The side-jump contribution turns out to dominate around 1 T in Hall resistance while the Berry-curvature effect dominates in 3 T $\sim$ 4 T.

Chaotic behavior in classical Yang-Mills dynamics

Understanding the underlying mechanisms causing rapid thermalization deduced for high-energy heavy ion collisions is still a challenge. To estimate the thermalization time, entropy growth for classical Yang-Mills theories is studied, based on the determination of Lyapunov exponents. Distinct regimes for short, medium and long sampling times are characterized by different properties of their spectrum of Lyapunov exponents. Clarifying the existence of these regimes and their implications for gauge-field dynamics is one of the results of this contribution. As a phenomenological application we conclude that for pure gauge theories with random initial conditions thermalization occurs within few fm/c, an estimate which can be reduced by the inclusion of fermions, specific initial conditions, etc.

Entropy current for the relativistic Kadanoff-Baym equation and H-theorem in $O(N)$ theory with NLO self-energy of $1/N$ expansion

We derive an expression of the kinetic entropy current in the nonequilibrium $O(N)$ scalar theory from the Schwinger-Dyson (Kadanoff-Baym) equation with the 1st order gradient expansion. We show that our kinetic entropy satisfies the H-theorem for the leading order of the gradient expansion with the next-to-leading order self-energy of the $1/N$ expansion in the symmetric phase, and that entropy production occurs as the Green's function evolves with an nonzero collision term. Entropy production stops at local thermal equilibrium where the collision term contribution vanishes and the maximal entropy state is realized. Next we also compare our entropy density with that in thermal equilibrium which is given from thermodynamic potential or equivalently 2 particle irreducible effective action. We find that our entropy density corresponds to that in thermal equilibrium with the next-to-leading order skeletons of the $1/N$ expansion if skeletons with energy denominators in momentum integral can be regularized appropriately. We have a possibility that memory correction terms remain in entropy current if not regularized.

Lambda hypernuclei and neutron star matter in a chiral SU(3) relativistic mean field model with a logarithmic potential

We develop a chiral SU(3) symmetric relativistic mean field (RMF) model with a logarithmic potential of scalar condensates. Experimental and empirical data of symmetric nuclear matter saturation properties, bulk properties of normal nuclei, and separation energies of single- and double-$Λ$ hypernuclei are well explained. The nuclear matter equation of state (EOS) is found to be softened by $σζ$ mixing which comes from determinant interaction. The neutron star matter EOS is further softened by $Λ$ hyperons.

Nuclear Matter and Finite Nuclei in the Effective Chiral Model

We systematically investigate the vacuum stability and nuclear properties in the effective chiral model with higher order terms in $σ$. We evaluate the model parameters by considering the saturation properties of nuclear matter as well as the normal vacuum to be globally stable at zero and finite baryon densities. We can find parameter sets giving moderate equations of state, and apply these models to finite nuclei.

Emergence of hyperons in failed supernovae: trigger of the black hole formation

We investigate the emergence of strange baryons in the dynamical collapse of a non-rotating massive star to a black hole by the neutrino-radiation hydrodynamical simulations in general relativity. By following the dynamical formation and collapse of nascent proto-neutron star from the gravitational collapse of a 40Msun star adopting a new hyperonic EOS table, we show that the hyperons do not appear at the core bounce but populate quickly at ~0.5-0.7 s after the bounce to trigger the re-collapse to a black hole. They start to show up off center owing to high temperatures and later prevail at center when the central density becomes high enough. The neutrino emission from the accreting proto-neutron star with the hyperonic EOS stops much earlier than the corresponding case with a nucleonic EOS while the average energies and luminosities are quite similar between them. These features of neutrino signal are a potential probe of the emergence of new degrees of freedom inside the black hole forming collapse.

The Infrared Astronomical Mission AKARI

AKARI, the first Japanese satellite dedicated to infrared astronomy, was launched on 2006 February 21, and started observations in May of the same year. AKARI has a 68.5 cm cooled telescope, together with two focal-plane instruments, which survey the sky in six wavelength bands from the mid- to far-infrared. The instruments also have the capability for imaging and spectroscopy in the wavelength range 2 - 180 micron in the pointed observation mode, occasionally inserted into the continuous survey operation. The in-orbit cryogen lifetime is expected to be one and a half years. The All-Sky Survey will cover more than 90 percent of the whole sky with higher spatial resolution and wider wavelength coverage than that of the previous IRAS all-sky survey. Point source catalogues of the All-Sky Survey will be released to the astronomical community. The pointed observations will be used for deep surveys of selected sky areas and systematic observations of important astronomical targets. These will become an additional future heritage of this mission.

Mean-Field Effects on Collective Flows in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions at 2-158A GeV energies

Collective flows in heavy-ion collisions from AGS ($(2-11)A$ GeV) to SPS ($(40,158)A$ GeV) energies are investigated in a nonequilibrium transport model with nuclear mean-field (MF). Sideward $<p_x>$, directed $v_1$, and elliptic flows $v_2$ are systematically studied with different assumptions on the nuclear equation of state (EOS). We find that momentum dependence in the nuclear MF is important for the understanding of the proton collective flows at AGS and SPS energies. Calculated results with momentum dependent MF qualitatively reproduce the experimental data of proton sideward, directed, and elliptic flows in a incident energy range of $(2-158)A$ GeV.

Quantum fluctuation effects on hyperfragment formation from Xi^- absorption at rest on 12C

Formation mechanisms of single, twin, and double hypernuclei from Xi^- absorption at rest on 12C are investigated with an refined microscopic transport model, that incorporates the recently developed Quantal Langevin treatment into Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics. The quantum fluctuations suppress the formation probability of double hyperfragments to around 10%, which is comparable to the experimental data, and the dynamical formation of twin hyperfragment can be described qualitatively.

Antisymmetrization of a Mean Field Calculation of the T-Matrix

The usual definition of the prior(post) interaction $V(V^\prime )$ between projectile and target (resp. ejectile and residual target) being contradictory with full antisymmetrization between nucleons, an explicit antisymmetrization projector ${\cal A}$ must be included in the definition of the transition operator, $ T\equiv V^\prime{\cal A}+V^\prime{\cal A}GV. $ We derive the suitably antisymmetrized mean field equations leading to a non perturbative estimate of $T$. The theory is illustrated by a calculation of forward $α$-$α$ scattering, making use of self consistent symmetries.
