Braneworlds in $f(Q)$ gravity

We propose a braneworld scenario in a modified symmetric teleparallel gravitational theory, where the dynamics for the gravitational field is encoded in the nonmetricity tensor rather than in the curvature. Assuming a single real scalar field with a sine-Gordon self-interaction, the generalized quadratic nonmetricity invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ controls the brane width while keeping the shape of the energy density. By considering power corrections of the invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ in the gravitational Lagrangian, the sine-Gordon potential is modified exhibiting new barriers and false vacuum. As a result, the domain wall brane obtains an inner structure, and it undergoes a splitting process. In addition, we also propose a non-minimal coupling between a bulk fermion field and the nonmetricity invariant $\mathbb{Q}$. Such geometric coupling leads to a massless chiral fermion bound to the 3-brane and a stable tower of non-localized massive states.

Configurational Entropy and braneworlds in f(T,B) gravity

The thick brane scenario built on the f(T,B) teleparallel gravity theory was considered for the study of phase transitions, internal structures, and new classes of solutions in a model. In this theory, T denotes the torsion scalar, and B is a boundary term. An interesting result was observed when brane splitting occurs, i. e., internal structures in the model arise as a consequence of the appearance of new domain walls in the theory. In fact, this preliminary result influences the profile of the matter field (from kink to multi-kink) so that for appropriate values of the parameters $k_{1,2}$ multiple phase transitions are identified. To perform this analysis, the Differential Configurational Entropy (DCE) which has the ability to predict the existence of phase transitions through critical points was used. Furthermore, the DCE is able to select the most stable solutions since it gives us details about the informational content of the field settings.

Differential configurational complexity and phase transitions of the BPS solutions in the O(3)-sigma model

Using a spherically symmetric ansatz, we show that the Chern-Simons O(3)-sigma model with a logarithmic potential admits topological solutions. This result is quite interesting since the Gausson-type logarithmic potential only predicted topological solutions in $(1+1)$D models. To accomplish our goal, the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) method is used, to saturate the energy and obtain the BPS equations. Next, we show by the numerical method is the graphical results of the topological fields, as well as, the magnetic field behavior that generates a flux given by $Φ_{flux}=-\mathcal{Q}/κ$ and the energy density of the structures of vortices. On the other hand, we evaluate the measure of the differential configurational complexity (DCC) of the topological structures, by considering the energy density of the vortex. This analysis is important because it will provide us with information about the possible phase transitions associated with the localized structures and it shows that our model only supports the one-phase transition.

Differential configurational entropy for multi-field of the $ϕ^6$ theory

The topological structures of a $ϕ^6$ theory with multi-field are studied. The $ϕ^6$ theory is interesting because it is a theory that allows the shrinkage of topological structures generating double-kink or even multi-kink configurations. In this work, we consider and study the solutions of a two real scalar fields model. To reach our purpose, we investigate the BPS properties of the fields using the approach proposed by Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield. Using the BPS energy density, the differential configurational entropy (DCE) of the BPS structures is studied. The result of the DCE indicates the most likely field configuration of one of the topological sectors of the model.

Exponentially generalized vortex

In this work, we propose an exponentially generalized Abelian model. We investigated the presence of vortex structures in models coupled to Maxwell and Chern-Simons fields. We chose to investigate the dynamics of the complex scalar field in models coupled separately to the Maxwell term and the Chern-Simons term. For this, we analyze the Bogomol'nyi equations in both cases to describe the static field configurations. An interesting result appears when we note that scalar field solutions generate degenerate minimum energy configurations by a factor of $ν^{2}$ in Maxwell's case. On the other hand, in the case of Chern-Simons, the solutions in this sector are degenerate by a factor of $κν^{2}/a_{s}$. Finally, we solve the Bogomol'nyi equations numerically and discuss our results.

New class of solutions in the non-minimal O(3)-sigma model

For the study of topological vortices with non-minimal coupling, we built a kind of non-canonical O(3)-sigma model, with a Maxwell term modified by a dielectric function. Through the BPS formalism, an investigation is made on possible configurations of vortices in topological sectors of the sigma model and the real scalar field. For a particular ansatz, the solutions of the topological sector of the real scalar field are described by the known kink solutions. On the other hand, when studying the vortices in the non-minimal sector of the pure O(3)-sigma model, it is detected the emergence of solutions that generate solitary waves similar to structures derived from a KdV-like theory. We observed that in the study of mixed models, namely, the topological sector of the O(3)-sigma model coupled to the topological sector of the real scalar field, the vortex solutions assume a profile of a step function. Then, when kinks of the topological sector of the scalar field are interacting with the field of the sigma model, it makes the field solutions of the O(3)-sigma model become extremely localized, making the vortice structures non-physical.

Non-minimal coupling of fermion to the torsion in the modified teleparallel braneworld

We study a spin 1/2 fermion in a teleparallel f(T) domain-wall thick braneworld. By assuming a non-minimal coupling of fermion to the torsion, a geometric alternative to the Yukawa coupling is found. The torsion parameters control the width of the massless Kaluza-Klein mode and the properties of the analogue quantum-potential near the origin. The non-normalized massive fermionic modes are also analyzed.

Quantum information of the Aharanov-Bohm ring with Yukawa interaction in the presence of disclination

We investigate the quantum information by a theoretical measurement approach of an Aharanov-Bohm (AB) ring with Yukawa interaction in curved space with disclination. It obtained the so-called Shannon entropy, through the eigenfunctions of the system. The quantum states considered come from a Schroedinger theory with the AB field in the background of curved space. With this entropy, it can explore the quantum information at the position space and reciprocal space. Furthermore, we discussed how the magnetic field, the AB flux, and the topological defect influence the quantum states and the information entropy.

Softly higher-derivative massive gravity

In this work, we study the higher-derivative massive gravity in $D$-dimensional space-time with the mass term arisen due to a 2-brane embedded in a $4D$ Minkowski spacetime. We consider the effect of a resonance mass term from the DGP braneworld model for the higher-derivative massive gravity. Moreover, we add the gravitational Chern-Simons and Ricci-Cotton terms to this model and evaluate the graviton propagator using a basis of Barnes-Rivers spin projectors. Using the obtained propagator, we proceed with discussing the consistency of the model, writing the dispersion relations, and analyzing causality and unitarity.

Topological structures in a non-canonical perturbative dynamics of a cuscuton-like model

In this work, a possible description for quantum dynamics of the cuscuton within the sigma-model approach is presented. Lower order perturbative corrections and the structure of divergences are found. Motivated by the results generated by the perturbative approach, we investigate the existence of topological structures in the cuscuton-like model. The structures we study are, first, kink-like configurations in two dimensional spacetime, second, vortex solutions in three dimensional one with gauge field ruled by the Maxwell term. In fact, to show the existence of kink solutions it is needed to introduce a standard dynamics term in the cuscuton-like model. Then, a numerical approach (interpolation method) is used and the solution of the scalar field is presented. On the other hand, for the study of topological vortices, we reorganized the energy density to obtain, for convenience, equations similar to those canonical vortex structures, namely, the Maxwell-Higgs model. In fact, even for this particular case, we observed the existence of structures with localized energy and quantized magnetic flux in a given topological sector. We also show that when the model does not spontaneously break the symmetry, the $(2+1)D$ model only admits the so-called non-topological field solutions.

Torsion braneworlds in a tensor-vector gravity

We study the properties of gravity and bulk fields living in a torsion warped braneworld. The torsion is driven by a background vector whose norm provides a source for the bulk cosmological constant. For a vector as the derivative of a scalar field, we find new isotropic and anisotropic thick brane geometries. We analyse the features of bosonic and fermionic fields in this isotropic and in standing wave scenarios. The background vector provides nonminimal coupling between the field and the geometry leading to modifications in the Kaluza-Klein states. The spinor connection is modified by the torsion and a derivative Yukawa-like coupling is proposed. The effects of these new couplings are investigated.

Dual equivalence between self-dual and topologically massive $B\wedge F$ models coupled to matter in $3+1$ dimensions

In this work, we revisit the duality between a self-dual non-gauge invariant theory and a topological massive theory in $3+1$ dimensions. The self-dual Lagrangian is composed by a vector field and an antisymmetric field tensor whereas the topological massive Lagrangian is build using a $B \wedge F$ term. Though the Lagrangians are quite different, they yield to equations of motion that are connected by a simple dual mapping among the fields. We discuss this duality by analyzing the degrees of freedom in both theories and comparing their propagating modes at the classical level. Moreover, we employ the master action method to obtain a fundamental Lagrangian that interpolates between these two theories and makes evident the role of the topological $B \wedge F$ term in the duality relation. By coupling these theories with matter fields, we show that the duality holds provided a Thirring-like term is included. In addition, we use the master action in order to probe the duality upon the quantized fields. We carried out a functional integration of the fields and compared the resulting effective Lagrangians.

Modified black hole solution with a background Kalb-Ramond field

We study the gravitation effects on a static and spherically symmetric spacetime due to the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a Kalb-Ramond field. The Kalb-Ramond VEV is a background tensor field which produces a local Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB) of spacetime. Considering a non-minimal coupling between the Kalb-Ramond (VEV) and the Ricci tensor, we obtain an exact parameter-dependent power-law modified black hole. For a particular choice of the LSB parameter, the Lorentz violation produces a solution similar to the Reissner-Nordstrom, despite the absence of charge. The near-horizon geometry is modified by including a new inner horizon and shifting the Schwarzschild horizon. Asymptotically, the usual Minkowski spacetime with a background tensor field is recovered. The vacuum configurations are studied considering the energy conditions and the Lorentz violating source properties. By means of the mercury perihelion test, an upper bound to the local Lorentz violation (LV) is obtained, and its corresponding effects on the black hole temperature is investigated.

The Casimir effect for the scalar and Elko fields in a Lifshitz-like field theory

In this work, we obtain the Casimir energy for the real scalar field and the Elko neutral spinor field in a field theory at a Lifshitz fixed point (LP). We analyze the massless and the massive case for both fields using dimensional regularization. We obtain the Casimir energy in terms of the dimensional parameter and the LP parameter. Particularizing our result, we can recover the usual results without LP parameter in (3+1) dimensions presented in the literature. Moreover, we compute the effects of the LP parameter in the thermal corrections for the massless scalar field.

Thermodynamics of Schwarzschild-like black holes in modified gravity models

Over the last decades, many methods were developed to prove Hawking radiation. Recently, a semiclassical method known as the tunneling method has been proposed as a more straightforward way of derivating black hole thermodynamical properties. This method has been widely applied to a vast sort of spacetimes with satisfactory results. In this work, we obtain the black hole thermodynamics in the presence of a Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB). We apply the Hamilton-Jacobi method to Schwarzschild-like black holes, and we investigate whether the LSB affects their thermodynamics. The results found show that the LSB not only changes the black hole thermodynamic quantities but also makes it necessary to modify the standard first law of thermodynamics.

Bipartite-Finsler symmetries

In this work, we study the symmetries of a Lorentz violating bipartite-Finsler spacetime. By using the Finslerian Killing equation for the bipartite-Finsler metric, we analyze how the anisotropy of the bipartite spacetime modifies the local Lorentz symmetries. The symmetries of the Finsler metric allow us to obtain the bipartite algebra and interpreted it as a deformed Lorentz algebra. Causality effects driven by the particle modified dispersion relations are investigated upon Minkowski and the Schwarzschild spacetimes. The background bipartite tensor yields to superluminal velocities and modifies the effective gravitational potential.

New class of solutions of a generalized $O(3)$-sigma Chern-Simons model

In this work, we investigated the existence of compacton-like configuration in the O(3)-sigma model. We consider a minimally coupled O(3)-sigma model with a gauge field governed by a generalized Chern-Simons term. Contrary to that established in the literature, we impose a new set of boundary conditions and, we find solutions of the variable fields and the respective energy density in the Bogomol'nyi limit. On the other hand, the introduction of a parameter $ω$ in the Chern-Simons term can be adjusted to leads to finite-energy solutions of the model. Moreover, compact-like structures were studied with the evolution of this $ω$ generalized Chern-Simons term.

Bounds on topological Abelian string-vortex and string-cigar from information-entropic measure

In this work we obtain bounds on the topological Abelian string-vortex and on the string-cigar, by using a new measure of configurational complexity, known as configurational entropy. In this way, the information-theoretical measure of six-dimensional braneworlds scenarios are capable to probe situations where the parameters responsible for the brane thickness are arbitrary. The so-called configurational entropy (CE) selects the best value of the parameter in the model. This is accomplished by minimizing the CE, namely, by selecting the most appropriate parameters in the model that correspond to the most organized system, based upon the Shannon information theory. This information-theoretical measure of complexity provides a complementary perspective to situations where strictly energy-based arguments are inconclusive. We show that the higher the energy the higher the CE, what shows an important correlation between the energy of the a localized field configuration and its associated entropic measure.

Multiresonance modes in sine-Gordon brane models

In this work, we study the localization of the vector gauge field in two five-dimensional braneworlds generated by scalar fields coupled to gravity. The sine-Gordon like potentials are employed to produce different thick brane setups. A zero mode localized is obtained, and we show the existence of reverberations with the wave solutions indicating a quasi-localized massive mode. More interesting results are achieved when we propose a double sine-Gordon potential to the scalar field. The resulting thick brane shows a more detailed topology with the presence of an internal structure composed by two kinks. The massive spectrum of the gauge field is revalued on this scenario revealing the existence of various resonant modes. Furthermore, we compute the corrections to Coulomb law coming from these massive KK vector modes in these thick scenarios, where is concluded that the dilaton parameter regulates these corrections.

Quasinormal frequencies of self-dual black holes

One simplified black hole model constructed from a semiclassical analysis of loop quantum gravity (LQG) is called self-dual black hole. This black hole solution depends on a free dimensionless parameter P known as the polymeric parameter and also on the $a_{0}$ area related to the minimum area gap of LQG. In the limit of P and $a_{0}$ going to zero, the usual Schwarzschild-solution is recovered. Here we investigate the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of massless scalar perturbations in the self-dual black hole background. We compute the QN frequencies using the sixth order WKB approximation method and compare them with numerical solutions of the Regge-Wheeler equation. Our results show that as the parameter P grows, the real part of the QN frequencies suffers an initial increase and then starts to decrease while the magnitude of the imaginary one decreases for fixed area gap $a_{0}$. This particular feature means that the damping of scalar perturbations in the self-dual black hole spacetimes are slower, and their oscillations are faster or slower according to the value of P.

Bound vortex states and exotic lattices in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates: The role of vortex-vortex interaction

We numerically study the vortex-vortex interaction in multi-component homogeneous Bose-Einstein condensates within the realm of the Gross-Pitaevskii theory. We provide strong evidences that pairwise vortex interaction captures the underlying mechanisms which determine the geometric configuration of the vortices, such as different lattices in many-vortex states, as well as the bound vortex states with two (dimer) or three (trimer) vortices. Specifically, we discuss and apply our theoretical approach to investigate intra- and inter-component vortex-vortex interactions in two- and three-component Bose-Einstein condensates, thereby shedding light on the formation of the exotic vortex configurations. These results correlate with current experimental efforts in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates, and the understanding of the role of vortex interactions in multiband superconductors.

Fermionic Kaluza-Klein modes in the string-cigar braneworld

We study the spin 1/2 and spin 3/2 fermion fields in a thick braneworld scenario in six dimensions called string-cigar model. This smooth string-like model has a source that satisfies the dominant energy condition and undergoes a Ricci flow. We propose a new coupling for the fermions with a background gauge field which allows a smooth and normalized massless mode in the brane with positive tension. By numerical methods the mass spectrum and the massive eigenfunctions are obtained. The Kaluza-Klein massive tower exhibits the usual increasing pattern and, in this scenario, the coupling term does not allow tachyonic Kaluza-Klein states. The brane core and the background gauge field alter the properties of the massive KK tower, enhancing the amplitude of the massive states near the origin and changing the properties of the analogue Schroedinger potential. Furthermore, we find massive modes as resonant states in this scenario for both fermionic fields.

Gauge fields in a string-cigar braneworld

In this work we investigate the properties of an Abelian gauge vector field in a thin and in a smoothed string-like braneworld, the so-called string-cigar model. This thick brane scenario satisfies the regularity conditions and it can be regarded as an interior and exterior string-like solution. The source undergoes a geometric Ricci flow which is connected to a variation of the bulk cosmological constant. The Ricci flow changes the width and amplitude of the massless mode at the brane core and recover the usual thin string-like behavior at large distances. By numerical means we obtain the Kaluza-Klein (KK) spectrum for both the thin brane and the string-cigar. It turns out that both models exhibit a mass gap between the massless and the massive modes and between the high and the low mass regimes. The KK modes are smooth near the brane and their amplitude are enhanced by the string-cigar core. The analogue Schrödinger potential is also tuned by the geometric flow.

Gravity localization in sine-Gordon braneworlds

In this work we study two types of five-dimensional braneworld models given by sine-Gordon potentials. In both scenarios, the thick brane is generated by a real scalar field coupled to gravity. We focus our investigation on the localization of graviton field and the behaviour of the massive spectrum. In particular, we analyse the localization of massive modes by means of a relative probability method in a Quantum Mechanics context. Initially, considering a scalar field sine-Gordon potential, we find a localized state to the graviton at zero mode. However, when we consider a double sine-Gordon potential, the brane structure is changed allowing the existence of massive resonant states. The new results show how the existence of an internal structure can aid in the emergence of massive resonant modes on the brane.

Gravity localization on hybrid branes

This work deals with gravity localization on codimension-1 brane worlds engendered by compacton-like kinks, the so-called hybrid branes. In such scenarios, the thin brane behaviour is manifested when the extra dimension is outside the compact domain, where the energy density is non-trivial, instead of asymptotically as in the usual thick brane models. The zero mode is trapped in the brane, as required. The massive modes, although are not localized in the brane, have important phenomenological implications such as corrections to the Newton's law. We study such corrections in the usual thick domain wall and in the hybrid brane scenarios. By means of suitable numerical methods, we attain the mass spectrum for the graviton and the corresponding wavefunctions. The spectra possess the usual linearly increasing behaviour from the Kaluza-Klein theories. Further, we show that the 4D gravitational force is slightly increased at short distances. The first eigenstate contributes highly for the correction to the Newton's law. The subsequent normalized solutions have diminishing contributions. Moreover, we find out that the phenomenology of the hybrid brane is not different from the usual thick domain wall. The use of numerical techniques for solving the equations of the massive modes is useful for matching possible phenomenological measurements in the gravitational law as a probe to warped extra dimensions.

Radiative corrections in bumblebee electrodynamics

We investigate some quantum features of the bumblebee electrodynamics in flat spacetimes. The bumblebee field is a vector field that leads to a spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking. For a smooth quadratic potential, the massless excitation (Nambu-Goldstone boson) can be identified as the photon, transversal to the vacuum expectation value of the bumblebee field. Besides, there is a massive excitation associated with the longitudinal mode and whose presence leads to instability in the spectrum of the theory. By using the principal-value prescription, we show that no one-loop radiative corrections to the mass term is generated. Moreover, the bumblebee self-energy is not transverse, showing that the propagation of the longitudinal mode can not be excluded from the effective theory.

A 6D standing-wave Braneworld with normal matter as source

A six dimensional standing-wave braneworld model has been constructed. It consists in an anisotropic 4-brane generated by standing gravitational waves whose source is normal matter. In this model the compact (on-brane) dimension is assumed to be sufficiently small in order to describe our universe (hybrid compactification). The bulk geometry is non-static, unlike most of the braneworld models in the literature. The principal feature of this model is the fact that the source is not a phantom like scalar field, as the original standing-wave model that was proposed in five dimensions and its six dimensional extension recently proposed in the literature. Here it was obtained a solution in the presence of normal matter what assures that the model is stable. Also our model is the first standing wave brane model in the literature which can be applied successfully to the hierarchy problem. Additionally, we have shown that the zero-mode for the scalar and fermionic fields are localized around the brane. Particularly for the scalar field we show that it is localized on the brane, regardless the warp factor is decreasing or increasing. This is in contrast to the case of the local string-like defect where the scalar field is localized for a decreasing warp factor only.

A note on the fuzzy sphere area spectrum, black hole luminosity, and the quantum nature of spacetime

Non-commutative corrections to the classical expression for the fuzzy sphere area are found out through the asymptotic expansion for its heat kernel trace. As an important consequence, some quantum gravity deviations in the luminosity of black holes must appear. We calculate these deviations for a static, spherically symmetric, black-hole with a horizon modeled by a fuzzy sphere. The results obtained could be verified through the radiation of black holes formed in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

A smoothed string-like braneworld in six dimensions

We propose here a static and axisymmetric braneworld in six dimensions as a string-like model extension. For a subtle warp function, this scenario provides near brane corrections. By varying the bulk cosmological constant, we obtain a source which passes through different phases. The solution is defined both for the interior as for the exterior of the string and satisfies the weak energy condition. Smooth gravitational massless mode is localized on the brane which core is displaced from the origin. In contrast to the thin string model, the massive solutions have high amplitude near the brane. By means of an analogue quantum potential analysis, we show that s-waves gravitational Kaluza-Klein modes are permissible as resonant states.

Dirac equation in very special relativity for hydrogen atom

In this work, we study the modified Dirac equation in the framework of very special relativity (VSR). The low-energy regime is accessed and the nonrelativistic Hamiltonian is obtained. It turns out that this Hamiltonian is similar to that achieved from the Standard Model Extension (SME) via coupling of the spinor field to a Lorentz-violating term, but new features arise inherited from the non-local character of the VSR. In addition, the implications of the VSR-modified Lorentz symmetry on the spectrum of a hydrogen atom are determined by calculating the first-order energy corrections in the context of standard quantum mechanics. Among the results, we highlight that the modified Hamiltonian provides non-vanishing corrections which lift the degeneracy of the energy levels and allow us to find an upper bound upon the VSR-parameter.

Einstein-Hilbert Graviton modes modified by the Lorentz-violating bumblebee Field

In this work, we investigate the consequences of the spontaneous breaking of Lorentz symmetry, triggered by the bumblebee vector field, on the usual Einstein-Hilbert theory. Specifically, we consider the Einstein-Hilbert action modified by the bumblebee dynamic field, and evaluate the graviton propagator using an extended basis of Barnes-Rivers tensor projectors, involving the Lorentz-violating vector. Once the propagator is carried out, we proceed with discussing the consistency of the model, writing the dispersion relations, and analyzing causality and unitarity. We verify that this model possesses two dispersion relations: one provides causal and unitary propagating modes, while the second yields a causal but nonunitary mode which spoils the physical consistency of the model.

Gravitational Kaluza-Klein modes in the String-Cigar Braneworld

In this work the gravitational Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes are analysed on string-like braneworlds in six dimensions, namely the thin string-like Gherghetta-Shaposhnikov (GS) and the thick string-cigar model. We find a new massless mode in both modes satisfying the respective Schroedinger equation. By means of numerical analysis for both models, a complete graviton spectrum and eigenfunctions is attained. Besides the linear regime, the KK spectrum exhibits a decreasing behavior with an asymmetric mass gap with respect to the massless mode. The discontinuity is bigger in the GS model, and it is invariant upon the geometrical flow. A massive mode is obtained in the GS model with a tiny mass which does not match in any regime. It turns out that in the string-cigar model, the core brane structure smoothes and amplifies the KK modes near the brane. Further, the presence of a potential well allows the existence of resonant massive gravitons for small masses in the string-cigar scenario.

Graviton resonances on two-field thick branes

This work presents new results about the graviton massive spectrum in two-field thick branes. Analyzing the massive spectra with a relative probability method we have firstly showed the presence of resonance structures and obtained a connection between the thickness of the defect and the lifetimes of such resonances. We obtain another interesting results considering the degenerate Bloch brane solutions. In these thick brane models, we have the emergence of a splitting effect controlled by a degeneracy parameter. When the degeneracy constant tends to a critical value, we have found massive resonances to the gravitational field indicating the existence of modes highly coupled to the brane. We also discussed the influence of the brane splitting effect over the resonance lifetimes.

This anisotropic structure deforms the causal null surface to an elliptic cone and provides an anisotropy to the inertia. The modified dispersion relations and the geodesic equation for a massive particle are studied. For a weak directional-dependence we obtain the dynamical and interaction terms analogous to the gravitational sector of the Standard Model Extension.

Thermodynamical properties of graphene in noncommutative phase-space

We investigated the thermodynamic properties of graphene in a noncommutative phase-space in the presence of a constant magnetic field. In particular, we determined the behaviour of the main thermodynamical functions: the Helmholtz free energy, the mean energy, the entropy and the specific heat. The high temperature limit is worked out and the thermodynamic quantities, such as mean energy and specific heat, exhibit the same features as the commutative case. Possible connections with the results already established in the literature are discussed briefly.

The thermal properties of the three-dimensional Dirac oscillator are considered. The canonical partition function is determined, and the high-temperature limit is assessed. The degeneracy of energy levels and their physical implications on the main thermodynamic functions are analyzed, revealing that these functions assume values greater than the one-dimensional case. So that at high temperatures, the limit value of the specific heat is three times bigger.

Vector and fermion fields on a bouncing brane with a decreasing warp factor in a string-like defect

In a recent work, a model has been proposed where a brane is made of a scalar field with bounce-type configurations and embedded in a bulk with a string-like metric. This model produces an AdS scenario where the components of the energy momentum tensor are finite and have its positivity ensured by a suitable choice of the bounce configurations. In the present work, we study the issue of gauge and fermion field localization in this scenario. In contrast with the five dimensional case here the gauge field is localized without the dilaton contribution. Nevertheless, it is remarkable that the localization of the fermion field depends on the introduction of a minimal coupling with the angular component of the gauge field, which differs clearly from five dimensional scenarios. Furthermore, we perform a qualitative analysis of the fermionic massive modes and conclude that only left handed fermions could be localized in the brane.

Fermions in a warped resolved conifold

We investigated the localization of the spinorial field in a braneworld built as a warped product between a 3-brane and a 2-cycle of the resolved conifold. This scenario provides a geometric flow that controls the singularity at the origin and changes the properties of the fermion in this background. Furthermore, due the cylindrical symmetry according to the 3-brane and a smoothed warp factor, this geometry can be regarded as a near brane correction of the string-like branes. This geometry allows a normalizable and well-defined massless mode whose decay and value on the brane depend on the resolution parameter. For the Kaluza-Klein modes, resolution parameter also controls the height of the barrier of the volcano potential.

Gauge field localization on the Bloch Brane

We present new results on the localization of gauge fields in thick brane models. The four-dimensional observable universe is considered to be a topological defect which is generated by two scalar fields coupled with gravity embedded in a five-dimensional space-time. Like other thick brane models, the Bloch brane setup is not capable of supporting gauge field localization. In order to circumvent this problem we include the dilaton field and, as a result, obtain normalizable solutions. In addition, by writing the equations of motion as Schroedinger-like equations, we have found new kinds of resonances in the massive spectrum which appear also for heavy modes. This is in sharp contrast to what is commonly found in previous analog studies, where only light modes become resonant. At specific energies, the wave solutions exhibit very high amplitudes within the membrane. The influence of the dilaton coupling and of the internal structure on the resonant modes are also discussed.

Gauge vector field localization on 3-brane placed in a warped transverse resolved conifold

We have investigated the features of the gauge vector field in a braneworld scenario built as a warped product between a 3-brane and a 2-cycle of the resolved conifold. This scenario allowed us to study how the gauge field behaves when the transverse manifold evolves upon a geometric flow that controls the singularity at the origin. Besides, since the transverse manifold has a cylindrical symmetry according to the 3-brane, this geometry can be regarded as a near brane correction of the string-like branes. Indeed, by means of a new warp function and the angular metric component of the resolved conifold, the braneworld can exhibit a conical form near the origin as well as a regular behavior in that region. The analysis of the gauge field in this background has been carried out for the s-wave state and a normalizable massless mode was found. For the massive modes, the resolution parameter avoids an infinite well on the brane and controls the depth of the well and the high of the barrier around the brane. The massive modes are slightly changed near the brane but they agreed with the string-like spectrum for large distances.

Kalb-Ramond field localization on the Bloch brane

This work deals with new results on the Kalb-Ramond (KR) field localization in braneworld models. We consider a five-dimensional warped spacetime with an embedded 4D thick brane which is generated by two real scalar fields coupled with gravity (the so called Bloch brane). We find a KR field zero mode localized with the inclusion of the dilaton coupling. Analyzing the massive spectrum, we detected a series of resonant modes that arise from the solutions of the Schrödinger-like equation for KR field. The effects of the brane thickness and of the dilaton coupling over the resonance structures are determined. Such analysis is extended to the resonance lifetimes of the massive modes, allowing a better understanding on the localization mechanism of the model.

Matter-gravity scattering in the presence of spontaneous Lorentz violation

Considering quantum gravity within the framework of effective field theory, we investigated the consequences of spontaneous Lorentz violation for the gravitational potential. In particular, we focus our attention on the bumblebee models, in which the graviton couples to a vector $B_μ$ that assumes a nonzero vacuum expectation value. The leading order corrections for the nonrelativistic potential are obtained from calculation of the scattering matrix of two scalar particles interacting gravitationally. These corrections imply anisotropic properties associated with the bumblebee background and also add a Darwin-like term for Newton's potential.

A 6D standing wave Braneworld

We constructed a six-dimensional version of the standing wave model with an anisotropic 4-brane generated by a phantom-like scalar field. The model represents a braneworld where the compact (on-brane) dimension is assumed to be sufficiently small in order to describe our universe (hybrid compactification). The proposed geometry of the brane and its transverse manifold is non-static, unlike the majority of braneworld models presented in the literature. Furthermore, we have shown that the zero-mode scalar field is localized around the brane. While in the string-like defect the scalar field is localized on a brane with decreasing warp factor, here it was possible to perform the localization with an increasing warp factor.

Brane bounce-type configurations in a string-like scenario

Brane world six dimensional scenarios with string like metric has been proposed to alleviate the problem of field localization. However, these models have been suffering from some drawbacks related with energy conditions as well as from difficulties to find analytical solutions. In this work, we propose a model where a brane is made of a scalar field with bounce-type configurations and embedded in a bulk with a string-like metric. This model produces a sound AdS scenario where none of the important physical quantities is infinite. Among these quantities are the components of the energy momentum tensor, which have its positivity ensured by a suitable choice of the bounce configurations. Another advantage of this model is that the warp factor can be obtained analytically from the equations of motion for the scalar field, obtaining as a result a thick brane configuration, in a six dimensional context. Moreover, the study of the scalar field localization in these scenario is done.

Gravity localization in a string-cigar braneworld

We proposed a six dimensional string-like braneworld built from a warped product between a 3-brane and the Hamilton cigar soliton space, the string-cigar braneworld. This transverse manifold is a well-known steady solution of the Ricci flow equation that describes the evolution of a manifold. The resulting bulk is an interior and exterior metric for a thick string. This is a physical and feasible scenario since the source satisfies the dominant energy condition. It is possible to realize the geometric flow as a result of variations of the matter content of the brane, actually, as its tensions. Furthermore, the Ricci flow defines a family of string-like branes and we studied the effects that the evolution of the transverse space has on the geometric and physical quantities. The geometric flow makes the cosmological constant and the relationship between the Planck masses evolves. The gravitational massless mode remains trapped to the brane and the width of the mode depends on the evolution parameter. For the Kaluza-Klein modes, the asymptotic spectrum of mass is the same as for the thin string-like brane and the analogue Schroedinger potential also changes according to the flow.

On Gravity localization under Lorentz Violation in warped scenario

Recently Rizzo studied the Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) in a brane scenario with one extra dimension where he found a non-zero mass for the four-dimensional graviton. This leads to the conclusion that five-dimensional models with LIV are not phenomenologically viable. In this work we re-examine the issue of Lorentz Invariance Violation in the context of higher dimensional theories. We show that a six-dimensional geometry describing a string-like defect with a bulk-dependent cosmological constant can yield a massless 4D graviton, if we allow the cosmological constant variation along the bulk, and thus can provides a phenomenologically viable solution for the gauge hierarchy problem.

Tensor gauge field localization on a string-like defect

This work is devoted to the study of tensor gauge fields on a string-like defect in six dimensions. This model is very successful in localizing fields of various spins only by gravitational interaction. Due to problems of field localization in membrane models we are motivated to investigate if a string-like defect localizes the Kalb-Ramond field. In contrast to what happens in Randall-Sundrum and thick brane scenarios we find a localized zero mode without the addition of other fields in the bulk. Considering the local string defect we obtain analytical solutions for the massive modes. Also, we take the equations of motion in a supersymmetric quantum mechanics scenario in order to analyze the massive modes. The influence of the mass as well as the angular quantum number in the solutions is described. An additional analysis on the massive modes is performed by the Kaluza-Klein decomposition, which provides new details about the KK masses.

Fermions on deformed thick branes

In this work we investigate the issue of fermion localization and resonances in $(4,1)$-deformed branes constructed with one scalar field coupled with gravity. Such models provide us branes with internal structures that turns the gravitational interaction more effective for fermions aside the brane, increasing their lifetime. The coupling between the scalar field and spinors is a necessary condition for fermions to be localized on such branes. After performing a chiral decomposition of the five-dimensional spinor we found resonances with both chiralities. The correspondence between the spectra for left and right chirality is guaranteed and Dirac fermions are realized on the brane.

Graviton resonances on deformed branes

Plane wave solutions of Schrodinger-like equations obtained from the metric perturbations in 5D braneworld scenarios can present resonant modes. The search for those structures is important because they can provide us massive modes with not suppressed couplings with the membrane. We propose in this paper the study of graviton Kaluza-Klein spectrum in a special kind of membrane that possesses internal structure. The interest in study of these deformed defects is because they have a more rich internal structure that has implications in the matter-energy density along the extra dimensions an this produces a space-time background whose curvature has a splitting, if compared to the usual kink-like models. Such models arise from $(4,1)$-branes constructed with one scalar field coupled with gravity where we find two-kink solutions from deformations of a $ϕ^4$ potential. The main objective of this work is to observe the effects of deformation process in the resonant modes as well as in the coupling between the graviton massive modes and the brane.

Scalar field localization on 3-branes placed at a warped resolved conifold

We have studied the localization of scalar field on a 3-brane embedded in a six dimensional warped bulk of the form $M_{4}\times C_{2}$, where $M_{4}$ is a 3-brane and $C_{2}$ is a 2-cycle of a six resolved conifold $\mathcal{C}_{6}$ over a $T^{1,1}$ space. Since the resolved conifold is singularity-free in $r=0$ depending on a resolution parameter $a$, we have analyzed the behavior of the localization of scalar field when we vary the resolution parameter. On one hand, this enable us to study the effects that a singularity has on the field. On the other hand we can use the resolution parameter as a fine-tuning between the bulk Planck mass and 3-brane Planck mass and so it opens a new perspective to extend the hierarchy problem. Using a linear and a nonlinear warp factor, we have found that the massive and massless modes are trapped to the brane even in the singular cone ($a\neq 0$). We have also compared the results obtained in this geometry and those obtained in other six-dimensional models, as string-like geometry and cigar-like universe geometry.

Brane resolution in heterotic theory through BF term

We have studied the resolution of a naked singularity of a conifold in heterotic theory by a BF topological defect living in a 5-brane. The singularity is removed due to Chern-Simons action that changes the Bianchi identity for the H3 3-form. Following the previous analysis of Cvetic, Lu and Pope where they have studied the resolution through an instanton defect, we have taken a conifold over an Eguchi-Hanson manifold and a harmonic self-dual 2-form related with F2 to solve the differential equation for the warp factor. Since the H3 field is related to torsion in the extra manifold, we can interpret this conifold as one with torsion. Using the so called BF term we have found a solution with the same properties of the instanton such that the conifold is smoothed out and has a torsion that diverges in IR regime and vanish in UV regime.

Results in Kalb-Ramond field localization and resonances on deformed branes

We make an analysis about several aspects of localization of the Kalb-Ramond gauge field in a specific four dimensional AdS membrane embedded in a five dimensional space-time. The membrane is generated from a deformation of the $λϕ^4$ potential and belongs to a new class of defect solutions. In this context we find resonance structures in the analysis of massive modes. The study of deformed defects is important because they contain internal structures and these may have implications to the way the background space-time is constructed and the way its curvature behaves. The main objective here is to observe the contributions of the deformation procedure to the resonances and the well known field localization methods.

Remarks on topological models and fractional statistics

One of the most intriguing aspects of Chern-Simons-type topological models is the fractional statistics of point particles which has been shown essential for our understanding of the fractional quantum Hall effects. Furthermore these ideas are applied to the study of high Tc superconductivity. We present here an recently proposed model for fractional spin with the Pauli term. On the other hand, in D=4 space-time, a Schwarz-type topological gauge theory with antisymmetric tensor gauge field, namely BF model, is reviewed. Antisymmetric tensor fields are conjectured as mediator of string interaction. A dimensional reduction of the previous model provides a (2+1) dimensional topological theory, which involves a 2-form B and a 0-form $ϕ$. Some recent results on this model are reported. Recently, there have been thoughts of generalizing unusual statistics to extended objects in others space-time dimensions, and in particular to the case of strings in four dimensions. In this context, discussions about fractional spin and antisymmetric tensor field are presented.

A superspace gauge-invariant formulation of a massive tridimensional 2-form field

By dimensional reduction of a massive supersymmetric B$\wedge $F theory, a manifestly N=1 supersymmetric completion of a massive antisymmetric tensor gauge theory is constructed in (2+1) dimensions. In the N=1-D=3 superspace, a new topological term is used to give mass for the Kalb-Ramond field. We have introduced a massive gauge invariant model using the Stuckelberg formalism and an abelian topologically massive theory for the Kalb-Ramond superfield. An equivalence of both massive models is suggested. Further, a component field analysis is performed, showing a second supersymmetry in the model.

Vortices in a nonminimal Maxwell-Chern-Simons O(3) Sigma Model

In this work we consider an Abelian O(3) sigma model coupled nonminimally with a gauge field governed by a Maxwell and Chern-Simons terms. Bogomol'nyi equations are constructed for a specific form of the potential and generic nonminimal coupling constant. Furthermore, topological and nontopological self-dual soliton solutions are obtained for a critical value of the nonminimal coupling constant. Some particular static vortex solutions (topological and nontopological) satisfying the Bogomol'nyi bound are numerically solved and presented.
