$γ_{5}$ algebra ambiguities in Feynman amplitudes: momentum routing invariance and anomalies in $D=4$ and $D=2$

We address the subject of chiral anomalies in two and four dimensional theories. Ambiguities associated with the $γ_5$ algebra within divergent integrals are identified, even though the physical dimension is not altered in the process of regularization. We present a minimal prescription that leads to unique results and apply it to a series of examples. For the particular case of abelian theories with effective chiral vertices, we show: 1- Its implication on the way to display the anomalies democratically in the Ward identities. 2- The possibility to fix an arbitrary surface term in such a way that a momentum routing independent result emerges. This leads to a reinterpretation of the role of momentum routing in the process of choosing the Ward identity to be satisfied in an anomalous process. 3- Momentum Routing Invariance (MRI) is a necessary and sufficient condition to assure vectorial gauge invariance of effective chiral Abelian gauge theories. We also briefly discuss the case of complete chiral theories, using the Chiral Schwinger Model as an example.

Entanglement of Vacuum States With the de Sitter Horizon: Consequences on Holographic Dark Energy

The aim of this article is to study the effect of an Event Horizon on the entanglement of the Quantum Vacuum and how entanglement, together with the Holographic Principle, may explain the current value of the Cosmological Constant, in light of recent theories. Entanglement is tested for vacuum states very near and very far from the Horizon of a de Sitter Universe, using the Peres-Horodecki (PPT) criterion. A scalar vacuum field ($\hatϕ$) is averaged inside two boxes of volume $V$ in different spatial positions such that it acquires the structure of a bipartite Quantum Harmonic Oscillator, for which the PPT criterion is a necessary but not sufficient condition of separability. Entanglement is found between states obtained from boxes shaped as spherical shells with thickness of the order of one Planck distance ($l_p$), when one of the states is near the Horizon, and the other state is anywhere in the Universe. Entanglement disappears when the distance of the state near the horizon and the Horizon increases to around $5l_p$. If we consider the Horizon not as a surface but as a spherical shell of thickness $l_p$, then this means that there is entanglement between the states in the Horizon and the rest of the Universe. When both states are at distances larger than $\sim 5 l_p$ from the Horizon, no entanglement is found.

Momentum correlations of scattered particles in quantum field theory: one-loop entanglement generation

We compute the entanglement entropy variation between initial (separable or entangled in the momenta) and final states $ΔS_E$ in an elastic scattering of a bipartite system composed by two interacting scalar particles. We perform a quantum field theoretical calculation to one loop order and verify that $ΔS_E $ changes as we vary the energy of incoming particles and the coupling strength in a non-trivial way.

The $π^0-η-η'$ mixing in a generalized multi-quark interaction scheme

We investigate the isospin symmetry breaking effects within a recently derived Nambu-Jona-Lasinio related model by fitting the measured pseudoscalar meson masses and weak decay couplings $f_π$, $f_K$. Our model contains the next to leading order terms in the $1/N_c$ expansion of the effective multi-quark Lagrangian, including the ones that break the chiral symmetry explicitly. We show the important phenomenological role of these interactions: (1) they lead to an accurate fit of the low-lying pseudoscalar nonet characteristics; (2) they account for a very good agreement of the current quark masses with the present PDG values; (3) they reduce by $40\%$ the ratio $ε/ε'$ of the $π_0-η$ and $π_0-η'$ mixing angles, as compared to the case that contemplates explicit breaking only in the leading order, bringing it in consonance with the quoted values in the literature. The conventional NJL-type models fail in the joint description of these parameters.

Guises and Disguises of Quadratic Divergences

In this contribution, we present a new perspective on the control of quadratic divergences in quantum field theory, in general, and in the Higgs naturalness problem, in particular. Our discussion is essentially based on an approach where UV divergences are parameterized, after being reduced to basic divergent integrals (BDI) in one internal momentum, as functions of a cutoff and a renormalization group scale $λ$. We illustrate our proposal with well-known examples, such as the gluon vacuum self energy of QCD and the Higgs decay in two photons within this approach. We also discuss frameworks in effective low-energy QCD models, where quadratic divergences are indeed fundamental.

Susceptibilities in the PNJL model with 8q interactions and comparison with lQCD

We present some results pertaining quantities which are regarded as good indicators of the pseudo-critical temperatures for the deconfinement and partial chiral restoration transitions using a polynomial form for the Polyakov potential part and an extended version of the NJL model which includes 6 and 8 quark interaction terms. Some comparisons with results from the lattice formulation of QCD (lQCD) are performed and results for the location of the critical endoint in the phase diagram are also presented. It is shown that the comparison with lQCD results favors a moderately strong OZI-violating 8 quark interaction term.

Momentum routing invariance in Feynman diagrams and quantum symmetry breakings

We illustrate with examples that quantum symmetry breakings in perturbation theory are connected to breakdown of momentum routing invariance (MRI) in the loops of a Feynman diagram. We show that MRI is a necessary and sufficient condition to preserve abelian gauge symmetry at arbitrary loop order. We adopt the implicit regularization framework in which surface terms that are directly connected to momentum routing can be constructed to arbitrary loop order. The interplay between momentum routing invariance, surface terms and anomalies is discussed. We also illustrate that MRI is important to preserve supersymmetry. For theories with poor symmetry content, such as scalar field theories, MRI is shown to be important in the calculation of renormalization group functions.

Path Integral Bosonization of the 't Hooft Determinant: Quasiclassical Corrections

The many-fermion Lagrangian which includes the 't Hooft six-quark flavor mixing interaction (N_f=3) and the U_L(3)\times U_R(3) chiral symmetric four-quark Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio (NJL) type interactions is bosonized by the path integral method. The method of the steepest descents is used to derive the effective quark-mesonic Lagrangian with linearized many-fermion vertices. We obtain, additionally to the known lowest order stationary phase result of Reinhardt and Alkofer, the next to leading order (NLO) contribution arising from quantum fluctuations of auxiliary bosonic fields around their stationary phase trajectories (the Gaussian integral contribution). Using the gap equation we construct the effective potential, from which the structure of the vacuum can be settled. For some set of parameters the effective potential has several extrema, that in the case of SU(2)_I\times U(1)_Y flavor symmetry can be understood on topological grounds. With increasing strength of the fluctuations the spontaneously broken phase gets unstable and the trivial vacuum is restored. The effective potential reveals furthermore the existence of logarithmic singularities at certain field expectation values, signalizing caustic regions.

Path integral bosonization of the 't Hooft determinant: fluctuations and multiple vacua

The 't Hooft six quark flavor mixing interaction (N_f=3) is bosonized by the path integral method. The considered complete Lagrangian is constructed on the basis of the combined 't Hooft and U(3)X U(3) extended chiral four fermion Nambu-Jona-Lasinio interactions. The method of the steepest descents is used to derive the effective mesonic Lagrangian. Additionally to the known lowest order stationary phase (SP) result of Reinhardt and Alkofer we obtain the contribution from the small quantum fluctuations of bosonic configurations around their stationary phase trajectories. It affects the vacuum state of hadrons at low energies: whereas without the inclusion of quantum fluctuations the vacuum is uniquely defined for a fixed set of the model parameters, fluctuations give rise to multivalued solutions of the gap equations, marked at instances by drastic changes in the quark condensates. We derive the new gap equations and analyse them in comparison with known results. We classify the solutions according to the number of extrema they may accomodate. We find up to four solutions in the 0<m_(u,s)<3$ GeV region.

Generalized Proper-Time Approach For The Case Of Broken Isospin Symmetry

We present a derivation of the low-energy effective meson Lagrangian of the Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model on the basis of Schwinger's proper-time regularization of the one-loop fermion determinant. We consider the case in which the $SU(2)\times SU(2)$ chiral symmetry of the NJL Lagrangian is broken by the current quark mass matrix with $\hat{m}_u\ne\hat{m}_d$. The non-degeneracy of $d$ and $u$ masses destroys one of the most crucial features of the proper-time expansion -- the chiral-invariant structure of Seeley -- DeWitt coefficients. We show however that systematic resummations inside the proper-time expansion are still possible and derive a result which is in full agreement with the chiral Ward -- Takahashi identities.
