Mathieu moonshine and Borcherds products

The twisted elliptic genera of a $K3$ surface associated with the conjugacy classes of the Mathieu group $M_{24}$ are known to be weak Jacobi forms of weight $0$. In 2010, Cheng constructed formal infinite products from the twisted elliptic genera and conjectured that they define Siegel modular forms of degree two. In this paper we prove that for each conjugacy class of level $N_g$ the associated product is a meromorphic Borcherds product on the lattice $U(N_g)\oplus U \oplus A_1$ in a strict sense. We also compute the divisors of these products and determine for which conjugacy classes the product can be realized as an additive (generalized Saito--Kurokawa) lift.

On Hermitian Eisenstein series of degree 2

We consider the Hermitian Eisenstein series $E^{(\mathbb{K})}_k$ of degree $2$ and weight $k$ associated with an imaginary-quadratic number field $\mathbb{K}$ and determine the influence of $\mathbb{K}$ on the arithmetic and the growth of its Fourier coefficients. We find that they satisfy the identity $E^{{(\mathbb{K})}^2}_4 = E^{{(\mathbb{K})}}_8$, which is well-known for Siegel modular forms of degree $2$, if and only if $\mathbb{K} = \mathbb{Q} (\sqrt{-3})$. As an application, we show that the Eisenstein series $E^{(\mathbb{K})}_k$, $k=4,6,8,10,12$ are algebraically independent whenever $\mathbb{K}\neq \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-3})$. The difference between the Siegel and the restriction of the Hermitian to the Siegel half-space is a cusp form in the Maass space that does not vanish identically for sufficiently large weight; however, when the weight is fixed, we will see that it tends to $0$ as the discriminant tends to $-\infty$. Finally, we show that these forms generate the space of cusp forms in the Maass Spezialschar as a module over the Hecke algebra as $\mathbb{K}$ varies over imaginary-quadratic number fields.

Projective spaces as orthogonal modular varieties

We construct $16$ reflection groups $Γ$ acting on symmetric domains $\mathcal{D}$ of Cartan type IV, for which the graded algebras of modular forms are freely generated by forms of the same weight, and in particular the Satake--Baily--Borel compactification of $\mathcal{D} / Γ$ is isomorphic to a projective space. Four of these are previously known results of Freitag--Salvati Manni, Matsumoto, Perna and Runge. In addition we find several new modular groups of orthogonal type whose algebras of modular forms are freely generated.

Two graded rings of Hermitian modular forms

We give generators and relations for the graded rings of Hermitian modular forms of degree two over the rings of integers in $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-7})$ and $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-11})$. In both cases we prove that the subrings of symmetric modular forms are generated by Maass lifts. The computation uses a reduction process against Borcherds products which also leads to a dimension formula for the spaces of modular forms.

Twisted component sums of vector-valued modular forms

We construct isomorphisms between spaces of vector-valued modular forms for the dual Weil representation and certain spaces of scalar-valued modular forms in the case that the underlying finite quadratic module $A$ has order $p$ or $2p$, where $p$ is an odd prime. The isomorphisms are given by twisted sums of the components of vector-valued modular forms. Our results generalize work of Bruinier and Bundschuh to the case that the components $F_γ$ of the vector-valued modular form are antisymmetric in the sense that $F_γ = -F_{-γ}$ for all $γ\in A$. As an application, we compute restrictions of Doi-Naganuma lifts of odd weight to components of Hirzebruch-Zagier curves.
