A Lynden-Bell integral estimator for the tail index of right-truncated data with a random threshold

By means of a Lynden-Bell integral with deterministic threshold, Worms and Worms [A Lynden-Bell integral estimator for extremes of randomly truncated data. Statist. Probab. Lett. 2016; 109: 106-117] recently introduced an asymptotically normal estimator of the tail index for randomly right-truncated Pareto-type data. In this context, we consider the random threshold case to derive a Hill-type estimator and establish its consistency and asymptotic normality. A simulation study is carried out to evaluate the finite sample behavior of the proposed estimator.

Estimating the second-order parameter of regular variation and bias reduction in tail index estimation under random truncation

In this paper, we propose an estimator of the second-order parameter of randomly right-truncated Pareto-type distributions data and establish its consistency and asymptotic normality. Moreover, we derive an asymptotically unbiased estimator of the tail index and study its asymptotic behaviour. Our considerations are based on a useful Gaussian approximation of the tail product-limit process recently given by Benchaira et al. [Tail product-limit process for truncated data with application to extreme value index estimation. Extremes, 2016; 19: 219-251] and the results of Gomes et al. [Semi-parametric estimation of the second order parameter in statistics of extremes. Extremes, 2002; 5: 387-414]. We show, by simulation, that the proposed estimators behave well, in terms of bias and mean square error.

Nelson-Aalen tail product-limit process and extreme value index estimation under random censorship

On the basis of Nelson-Aalen nonparametric estimator of the cumulative distribution function, we provide a weak approximation to tail product-limit process for randomly right-censored heavy-tailed data. In this context, a new consistent reduced-bias estimator of the extreme value index is introduced and its asymptotic normality is established only by assuming the second-order regular variation of the underlying distribution function. A simulation study shows that the newly proposed estimator performs better than the existing ones.

Robust estimator of distortion risk premiums for heavy-tailed losses

We use the so-called t-Hill tail index estimator proposed by Fabián(2001), rather than Hill's one, to derive a robust estimator for the distortion risk premium of loss. Under the second-order condition of regular variation, we establish its asymptotic normality. By simulation study, we show that this new estimator is more robust than of Necir and Meraghni 2009 both for small and large samples.

Gaussian approximation to the extreme value index estimator of a heavy-tailed distribution under random censoring

We make use of the empirical process theory to approximate the adapted Hill estimator, for censored data, in terms of Gaussian processes. Then, we derive its asymptotic normality, only under the usual second-order condition of regular variation. Our methodology allows to relax the assumptions, made in Einmahl, Fils-Villetard and Guillou(2008), on the heavy-tailed distribution functions and the sample fraction of upper order statistics.

Involving copula functions in Conditional Tail Expectation

Our goal in this paper is to propose an alternative risk measure which takes into account the fluctuations of losses and possible correlations between random variables. This new notion of risk measures, that we call Copula Conditional Tail Expectation describes the expected amount of risk that can be experienced given that a potential bivariate risk exceeds a bivariate threshold value, and provides an important measure for right-tail risk. An application to real financial data is given.

A Bias-reduced Estimator for the Mean of a Heavy-tailed Distribution with an Infinite Second Moment

We use bias-reduced estimators of high quantiles, of heavy-tailed distributions, to introduce a new estimator of the mean in the case of infinite second moment. The asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator is established and checked, in a simulation study, by four of the most popular goodness-of-fit tests for different sample sizes. Moreover, we compare, in terms of bias and mean squared error, our estimator with Peng's estimator (Peng, 2001) and we evaluate the accuracy of some resulting confidence intervals.

A semiparametric estimation of copula models based on the method of moments

Using the classical estimation method of moments, we propose a new semiparametric estimation procedure for multi-parameter copula models. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the obtained estimators are established. By considering an Archimedean copula model, an extensive simulation study, comparing these estimators with the pseudo maximum likelihood, rho-inversion and tau-inversion ones, is carried out. We show that, with regards to the other methods, the moment based estimation is quick and simple to use with reasonable bias and root mean squared error.

Copula representation of bivariate L-moments : A new estimation method for multiparameter 2-dimentional copula models

Recently, Serfling and Xiao (2007) extended the L-moment theory (Hosking, 1990) to the multivariate setting. In the present paper, we focus on the two-dimension random vectors to establish a link between the bivariate L-moments (BLM) and the underlying bivariate copula functions. This connection provides a new estimate of dependence parameters of bivariate statistical data. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator are established. Extensive simulation study is carried out to compare estimators based on the BLM, the maximum likelihood, the minimum distance and rank approximate Z-estimation. The obtained results show that, when the sample size increases, BLM-based estimation performs better as far as the bias and computation time are concerned. Moreover, the root mean squared error (RMSE) is quite reasonable and less sensitive in general to outliers than those of the above cited methods. Further, we expect that the BLM method is an easy-to-use tool for the estimation of multiparameter copula models.

Distortion risk measures for sums of dependent losses

We discuss two distinct approaches, for distorting risk measures of sums of dependent random variables, which preserve the property of coherence. The first, based on distorted expectations, operates on the survival function of the sum. The second, simultaneously applies the distortion on the survival function of the sum and the dependence structure of risks, represented by copulas. Our goal is to propose risk measures that take into account the fluctuations of losses and possible correlations between risk components.
