Implications of time-dependent inflaton decay on reheating and dark matter production

We discuss the production of radiation and dark matter assuming a time-dependent inflaton decay rate during the reheating period. It is shown that the time dependence of the inflaton decay rate can substantially modify the reheating dynamics. As an illustration, a leading interaction between the inflaton $ϕ$ and the Higgs doublet ${\boldsymbol h}$ of the form $ϕ|{\boldsymbol h}|^2$ was adopted. In the presence of such interaction, the Higgs doublet acquires a $ϕ$-dependent mass which generates vacuum-expectation-value due to inflaton oscillations and breaks the Standard Model gauge symmetry. This leads to a time-dependent inflaton decay rate during the reheating period, and consequently, the production of radiation and dark matter during this period is modified. Regions of the parameter space that describe the observed value of the dark matter abundance were found and compared with the standard case when inflaton the decay rate is constant.

Pseudo-Goldstone Dark Matter Model with CP violation

We consider an explicitly CP-violating model with two Higgs doublets and one complex singlet scalar. The singlet $S$ is charged under a global $\rm U(1)$ symmetry which is softly broken by a mass term $μ^2 S^2+\hc$. Imaginary part of $S$ is a stable dark matter candidate which at the tree level, in the limit of zero momentum transfer, decouples from nucleons naturally satisfying all existing direct detection limits on dark matter scattering cross-section. It is explicitly shown that within this framework in the alignment limit CP-violation is still present in contrast to a popular version of a 2-Higgs doublet model with softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry. In this context, we investigate dark matter implications of the model both with and without CP violation in the scalar sector. In particular, dark matter relic abundance is calculated and the possibility for its indirect detection is discussed.

Dark-matter-spin effects at future $e^{+} e^{-}$ colliders

We discuss possibility to detect spin 0, 1 and 1/2 dark matter (DM) at future $e^{+} e^{-}$ colliders. The models considered here are simple, consistent and renormalizable field theories, that provide correct DM abundance and satisfy direct detection, indirect detection and collider constraints. The intention of this paper was to verify to what extend it might be possible to disentangle models of different DM spins by measurement of the cross section for $e^{+} e^{-} \to Z + \ldots\,$ at future $e^{+} e^{-}$ colliders. We specialize to the case of the ILC operating at $\sqrt{s} = 250~\text{GeV}$, however our results apply as well for the FCC-ee and the CEPC colliders. For each model the cross section maximized with respect to parameters was calculated and compared to the expected 95% CL cross-section limits estimated for the ILC. It turned out that near $2 m_{\text{DM}}\simeq m_{1,2}$ resonances, where $m_{1}$ and $m_{2}$ are the SM Higgs boson and a non-standard Higgs boson masses, respectively, there exist substantial regions where the models are testable. A special attention has been payed to calculation of the cross section in the region where $m_{1}\simeq m_{2}$.

Feebly coupled vector boson dark matter in effective theory

A model of dark matter (DM) that communicates with the Standard Model (SM) exclusively through suppressed dimension five operator is discussed. The SM is augmented with a symmetry $U(1)_X \otimes Z_2$, where $U(1)_X$ is gauged and broken spontaneously by a very heavy decoupled scalar. The massive $U(1)_X$ vector boson ($X^μ$) is stabilized being odd under unbroken $Z_2$ and therefore may contribute as the DM component of the universe. Dark sector field strength tensor $X^{μν}$ couples to the SM hypercharge tensor $B^{μν}$ via the presence of a heavier $Z_2$ odd real scalar $Φ$, i.e. $1/Λ\; X^{μν}B_{μν}Φ$, with $Λ$ being a scale of new physics. The freeze-in production of the vector boson dark matter feebly coupled to the SM is advocated in this analysis. Limitations of the so-called UV freeze-in mechanism that emerge when the maximum reheat temperature $T_\text{RH}$ drops down close to the scale of DM mass are discussed. The parameter space of the model consistent with the observed DM abundance is determined. The model easily and naturally avoids both direct and indirect DM searches. Possibility for detection at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is also considered. A Stueckelberg formulation of the model is derived.

Strong Dark Matter Self-Interaction from a Stable Scalar Mediator

In face of the small-scale structure problems of the collisionless cold dark matter (DM) paradigm, a popular remedy is to introduce a strong DM self-interaction which can be generated nonperturbatively by a MeV-scale light mediator. However, if such the mediator is unstable and decays into SM particles, the model is severely constrained by the DM direct and indirect detection experiments. In the present paper, we study a model of a self-interacting fermionic DM, endowed with a light stable scalar mediator. In this model, the DM relic abundance is dominated by the fermionic DM particle which is generated mainly via the freeze-out of its annihilations to the stable mediator. Since this channel is invisible, the DM indirect detection constraints should be greatly relaxed. Furthermore, the direct detection signals are suppressed to an unobservable level since fermionic DM scatterings with a nucleon appear at one-loop level. By further studying the bounds from the CMB and BBN on the visible channels involving the dark sector, we show that there is a large parameter space which can generate appropriate DM self-interactions at dwarf galaxy scales, while remaining compatible with other experimental constraints.

Isospin-violating dark-matter-nucleon scattering via two-Higgs-doublet-model portals

We show that in a multi-Higgs model in which one Higgs fits the LHC 125 GeV state, one or more of the other Higgs bosons can mediate DM-nucleon interactions with maximal DM isospin violation being possible for appropriate Higgs-quark couplings, independent of the nature of DM. We then consider the explicit example of a Type II two-Higgs-doublet model, identifying the h or H as the 125 GeV state while the H or h, respectively, mediates DM-nucleon interactions. Finally, we show that if a stable scalar, S, is added then it can be a viable light DM candidate with correct relic density while obeying all direct and indirect detection limits.

A stable Higgs portal with vector dark matter

We explore an extension of the Standard Model by an additional U (1) gauge group and a complex scalar Higgs portal. As the scalar is charged under this gauge factor this simple model supplies a vector dark matter candidate satisfying the observed relic abundance and limits from direct dark matter searches. An additional Higgs-like state, that may be heavier or lighter than the observed Higgs, is present and satisfies LEP and LHC bounds whilst allowing for absolute stability of the electroweak vacuum in a range of parameter space.

Higgs dark matter from a warped extra dimension

We present a 5D $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric IR-UV-IR model with a {\it warped KK-parity} under which the bulk fields have towers of either even or odd KK-modes. We show that this $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric geometry is equivalent to two times the UV-IR geometry (Randall-Sundrum model) provided each bulk field is subject to Neumann (or mixed) and Dirichlet boundary conditions at the UV-brane for even and odd fields, respectively. The 5D Standard Model (SM) bosonic sector is considered, such that in the 4D low-energy effective theory the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-even zero-modes correspond to the SM degrees of freedom, whereas the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-odd zero modes serve as a dark sector. In the zero-mode scalar sector, the even scalar mimics the SM Higgs boson, while the odd scalar (dark-Higgs) is stable and serves as a dark matter candidate. Implications for this dark matter are discussed; it is found that the dark-Higgs can provide only a small fraction of the observed dark matter abundance.

Higgs Dark Matter from a Warped Extra-Dimension -- the truncated-inert-doublet model

We construct a 5D $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric model with three D3-branes: two IR ones with negative tension located at the ends of an extra-dimensional interval and a UV-brane with positive tension placed in the middle of the interval -- IR-UV-IR model. The background solutions for this geometric setup are found without and with taking into account the backreaction of the matter fields. A 5D $SU(2)$ Higgs doublet is employed as the Goldberger-Wise stabilizing field in this geometry and solutions of the 5D coupled scalar-gravity equations are found by using the superpotential method. Within this setup we investigate the low-energy (zero-mode) effective theory for the bulk Standard Model (SM) bosonic sector. The $\mathbb{Z}_2$-even zero-modes correspond to known standard degrees of freedom, whereas the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-odd zero modes might serve as a dark sector. The effective low-energy scalar sector contains a scalar which mimics the SM Higgs boson and a second stable scalar particle (dark-Higgs) is a dark matter candidate; the latter is a component of the zero-mode of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-odd Higgs doublet. The model that results from the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric background geometry resembles the Inert Two Higgs Doublet Model. The effective theory turns out to have an extra residual $SU(2)\times U(1)$ global symmetry that is reminiscent of an underlying 5D gauge transformation for the odd degrees of freedom. At tree level the SM Higgs and the dark-Higgs have the same mass; however, when leading radiative corrections are taken into account the dark-Higgs turns out to be heavier than the SM Higgs. Implications for dark matter are discussed; it is found that the dark-Higgs can provide only a small fraction of the observed dark matter abundance.

Optimal-Observable Analysis of the Angular and Energy Distributions for Top-Quark Decay Products at Polarized Linear Colliders

An optimal-observable analysis of the angular and energy distributions of the leptons and bottom quarks in the process e+e- --> tt-bar --> l^{+-}/b(b-bar)... has been performed in order to measure the most general top-quark couplings to gauge bosons at polarized linear colliders. The optimal beam polarization for determination of each coupling has been found. A very sensitive test of CP violation in tt-bar production and decay has been proposed.

Radius stabilization and dark matter with a bulk Higgs in warped extra dimension

We employ an $SU(2)$ bulk Higgs doublet as the stabilization field in Randall-Sundrum model with appropriate bulk and brane-localized potentials. The gauge hierarchy problem can be solved for an exponentially IR-localized Higgs background field with mild values of fundamental parameters of the 5D theory. We consider an IR-UV-IR background geometry with the 5D SM fields in the bulk such that all the fields have even and odd tower of KK-modes. The zero-mode 4D effective theory contains all the SM fields plus a stable scalar, which serves as a dark matter candidate.

Vacuum stability from vector dark matter

We study a model of vector dark matter with the complex scalar Higgs portal. Renormalisation group equations at the 2-loop level are used to analyse perturbativity and stability of the vacuum. We impose experimental and theoretical constraints on the model and find regions in the parameter space consistent with the dark matter relic abundance inferred from the Planck data and bounds on DM-nucleon scattering cross-section from XENON and LUX experiments.

Classification of effective operators for interactions between the Standard Model and dark matter

We construct a basis for effective operators responsible for interactions between the Standard Model and a dark sector composed of particles with spin less or equal to 1. Redundant operators are eliminated using dim-4 equations of motion. We consider simple scenarios where the dark matter components are stabilized against decay by Z2 symmetries. We determine operators which are loop-generated within an underlying theory and those that are potentially tree-level generated.

Constraints on Two-Component Dark Matter

We study 'Higgs Portal' 2-component Dark Matter scenario with two interacting cold Dark Matter (DM) candidates: a neutral scalar singlet ($φ$) and a neutral Majorana fermion ($ν$). The relic abundance of $φ$ and $ν$ is found assuming thermal DM production and solving the Boltzmann equations. We scan over the parameter space of the model to determine regions consistent with the WMAP data for DM relic abundance and the XENON100 direct detection limits for the DM-nucleus cross section.

Extending two-Higgs-doublet models by a singlet scalar field - the Case for Dark Matter

We extend the two-Higgs doublet models of Type I and Type II by adding a real gauge-singlet scalar S dark matter candidate (2HDMS models). We impose theoretical constraints deriving from perturbativity, stability, unitarity and correct electroweak symmetry breaking and require that the lightest CP-even Higgs, h, fit the LHC data for the $\sim 125.5$ GeV state at the $68\%$~C.L. after including existing constraints from LEP and B physics and LHC limits on the heavier Higgs bosons. We find that these models are easily consistent with the LUX and SuperCDMS limits on dark-matter-Nucleon scattering and the observed $Ωh^2$ for S masses above about 55 GeV. At lower $m_S$, the situation is more delicate. For points with $m_S$ in the 6-25 GeV range corresponding to the CDMS~II and CRESST-II positive signal ranges, the dark-matter-Nucleon cross sections predicted by the Type I and Type II models more or less automatically fall within the $95\%-99\%$~C.L. signal region boundaries. Were it not for the LUX and SuperCDMS limits, which exclude all (almost all) such points in the case of Type I (Type II), this would be a success for the 2HDMS models. In fact, in the case of Type II there are a few points with 5.5 GeV $\leq m_S \leq$ 6.2 GeV that survive the LUX and SuperCDMS limits and fall within the CDMS~II 99\% C.L. signal region. Possibilities for dark matter to be isospin-violating in this 2HDMS context are also examined.

Generalized Randall-Sundrum model with a single thick brane

A generalized version of the Randall-Sundrum model-2 with different cosmological constants on each side of a brane has been discussed. A possibility of replacing the singular brane by a configuration of a scalar field has been also considered, the Einstein equations for this setup were solved and stability of the solution discussed. It has been shown that under mild assumptions the relation between cosmological constants and the brane tension obtained in the brane limit does not depend on the particular choice of the regularizing profile of the scalar field.

Thick-Brane Cosmology

We search for time-dependent solutions for the 5-dimensional system of a scalar field canonically coupled to gravity. Time-independent and time-dependent scalar field configurations with the most general homogeneous and isotropic 4D metric are considered. For the case of time-independent scalar field, the time evolution of the scale factor is obtained for different values of the spatial curvature $k=0,\pm 1$. In the case of time-dependent scalar field, two classes of solutions are discussed and an extension of the superpotential formalism is proposed.

Two-Component Dark Matter

We study an extension of the Standard Model (SM) with two interacting cold Dark Matter (DM) candidates: a neutral Majorana fermion ($ν$) and a neutral scalar singlet ($φ$). The scalar $φ$ interacts with the SM through the "Higgs portal" coupling while $ν$ at the tree level interacts only with $φ$ through Yukawa interactions. The relic abundance of $ν$ and $φ$ is found by solving the Boltzmann equations numerically; for the case $m_ν> m_φ$ we also derive a reliable approximate analytical solution. Effects of the interaction between the two DM components are discussed. A scan over the parameter space is performed to determine the regions consistent with the WMAP data for DM relic abundance, and with the XENON100 direct detection limits for the DM-nucleus cross section. We find that although a large region of the parameter space is allowed by the WMAP constraints, the XENON100 data severely restricts the parameter space. Taking into account only amplitudes generated at the tree level one finds three allowed regions for the scalar mass: $m_φ\sim 62.5$ GeV (corresponding to the vicinity of the Higgs boson resonance responsible for $φφ$ annihilation into SM particles), $m_φ\simeq 130-140$ GeV and $m_φ\gesim 3 $TeV. 1-loop induced $ν$-nucleon scattering has been also calculated and discussed. A possibility of DM direct detection by the CREST-II experiment was considered.

Brane modeling in warped extra-dimension

Five-dimensional scenarios with infinitesimally thin branes replaced by appropriate configurations of a scalar field were considered. A possibility of periodic extra dimension was discussed in the presence on non-minimal scalar-gravity coupling and a generalized Gibbons-Kallosh-Linde sum rule was found. In order to avoid constraints imposed by periodicity, a non-compact spacial extra dimension was introduced. A five dimensional model with warped geometry and two thin branes mimicked by a scalar profile was constructed and discussed. In the thin brane limit the model corresponds to a set-up with two positive-tension branes. The presence of two branes allows to address the issue of the hierarchy problem which could be solved by the standard warping of the four dimensional metric provided the Higgs field is properly localized. Stability of the background solution was discussed and verified in the presence of the most general perturbations of the metric and the scalar field.

Two-Higgs-Doublet Models and Enhanced Rates for a 125 GeV Higgs

We examine the level of enhancement that can be achieved in the ZZ and γγchannels for a two-Higgs-doublet model Higgs boson (either the light h or the heavy H) with mass near 125 GeV after imposing all constraints from LEP data, B physics, precision electroweak data, vacuum stability, unitarity and perturbativity. The latter constraints restrict substantially the possibilities for enhancing the gg -> h -> γγor gg -> H -> γγsignal relative to that for the SM Higgs, hSM. Further, we find that a significant enhancement of the gg -> h -> γγor gg -> H -> γγsignal in Type II models is possible only if the gg -> h -> ZZ or gg -> H -> ZZ mode is even more enhanced, a situation disfavored by current data. In contrast, in the Type I model one can achieve enhanced rates in the γγfinal state for the h while having the ZZ mode at or below the SM rate - the largest [gg -> h -> γγ]/[gg -> hSM -> γγ] ratio found is of order ~1.3 when the two Higgs doublet vacuum expectation ratio is tanβ= 4 or 20 and the charged Higgs boson has its minimal LEP-allowed value of m_{H^\pm} = 90 GeV.

Multi-Scalar-Singlet Extension of the Standard Model - the Case for Dark Matter and an Invisible Higgs Boson

We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model by the addition of N real scalar gauge singlets $\vp$ that are candidates for Dark Matter. By collecting theoretical and experimental constraints we determine the space of allowed parameters of the model. The possibility of ameliorating the little hierarchy problem within the multi-singlet model is discussed. The Spergel-Steinhardt solution of the Dark Matter density cusp problem is revisited. It is shown that fitting the recent CRESST-II data for Dark Matter nucleus scattering implies that the standard Higgs boson decays predominantly into pairs of Dark Matter scalars. It that case discovery of the Higgs boson at LHC and Tevatron is impossible. The most likely mass of the dark scalars is in the range 15 GeV $\lsim \mvp \lsim$ 50 GeV with $BR(h \to \vp\vp)$ up to 96%.

Anomalous Wtb coupling effects in the weak radiative B-meson decay

We study the effect of anomalous Wtb couplings on the B -> Xs gamma branching ratio. The considered couplings are introduced as parts of gauge-invariant dimension-six operators that are built out of the Standard Model fields only. One-loop contributions from the charged-current vertices are assumed to be of the same order as the tree-level flavour-changing neutral current ones. Bounds on the corresponding Wilson coefficients are derived.

Natural Two-Higgs-Doublet Model

We show that the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) constrained by the two-loop-order requirement of cancellation of quadratic divergences is consistent with the existing experimental constraints. The model allows to ameliorate the little hierarchy problem by suppressing the quadratic corrections to scalar masses and lifting the mass of the lightest Higgs boson. A strong source of CP violation emerges from the scalar potential. The cutoff originating from the naturality arguments is shifted from 0.6 TeV in the Standard Model to >6 TeV in the 2HDM, depending on the mass of the lightest scalar.

Tuned Two-Higgs-Doublet Model

We consider a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) constrained by the condition that assures cancellation of quadratic divergences up to the leading two-loop order. Regions in the parameter space consistent with existing experimental constraints and with the cancellation condition are determined. The possibility for CP violation in the scalar potential is discussed and regions of \tan_β-M_{H^\pm} with substantial amount of CP violation are found. The model allows to ameliorate the little hierarchy problem by lifting the minimal scalar Higgs boson mass and by suppressing the quadratic corrections to scalar masses. The cutoff originating from the naturality arguments is therefore lifted from ~0.6 TeV in the Standard Model to ~2.5 TeV in the 2HDM, depending on the mass of the lightest scalar.

Naive solution of the little hierarchy problem and its physical consequences

We argue that adding gauge-singlet real scalars to the Standard Model can both ameliorate the little hierarchy problem and provide a realistic source of Dark Matter. Masses of the scalars should be in the 1-3 TeV range, while the lowest cutoff of the (unspecified) UV completion of the model must be ~> 5 TeV, depending on the Higgs boson mass and the number of singlets present. The scalars couple to the Majorana mass term for right-handed neutrinos implying one massless neutrino. The resulting mixing angles are consistent with the tri-bimaximal mixing scenario.

preprint2009arXiv

Pragmatic approach to the little hierarchy problem: the case for Dark Matter and neutrino physics

We show that the addition of real scalars (gauge singlets) to the Standard Model can both ameliorate the little hierarchy problem and provide realistic Dark Matter candidates. To this end, the coupling of the new scalars to the standard Higgs boson must be relatively strong and their mass should be in the 1-3 TeV range, while the lowest cutoff of the (unspecified) UV completion must be >~ 5 TeV, depending on the Higgs boson mass and the number of singlets present. The existence of the singlets also leads to realistic and surprisingly reach neutrino physics. The resulting light neutrino mass spectrum and mixing angles are consistent with the constraints from the neutrino oscillations.

KK Gravitons and Unitarity Violation in the Randall-Sundrum Model

We show that perturbative unitarity for $W_LW_L$ scattering places significant constraints on the Randall-Sundrum theory with two 3-branes, with matter confined to the TeV brane. The exchange of massive 4D Kaluza-Klein gravitons leads to amplitudes growing linearly with the CM energy squared. Summing over KK gravitons up to a scale $\lbar$ and testing unitarity at $\sqrt s=\lbar$, one finds that unitarity is violated for $\lbar$ below the 'naive dimensional analysis' scale, $Λ_{NDA}$. We evaluate $\lbar$ as a function of the curvature ratio $m_0/M_{Planck}$ for the pure gravity theory. We then demonstrate that unitarity need not be violated at $\lbar$ in the presence of a heavy Higgs boson. In fact, much larger Higgs masses are consistent with unitarity than if no KK gravitons are present. Observation of the mass and width (or cross section) of one or more KK gravitons at the LHC will directly determine $m_0/M_{Planck}$ and the scale $\hat Λ$ specifying the couplings of matter to the KK gravitons. With this information in hand and a measurement of the Higgs boson mass, one can determine the precise scale $\lbar$ below which unitarity will remain valid.

Triviality and Vacuum Stability Bounds on the Higgs Boson Mass beyond the Standard Model

The triviality and vacuum stability bounds on the Higgs-boson mass were revisited in presence of weakly-coupled new interactions parameterized in a model-independent way by effective operators of dimension 6. It was shown that for the scale of new physics in the region Lambda=.5-50 TeV the Standard Model triviality upper bound remains unmodified whereas it is natural to expect that the lower bound derived from the requirement of vacuum stability is increased by 40-60 GeV depending on the scale Lambda and strength of coefficients of effective operators. It turns out that if the Higgs-boson mass is close to its lower LEP limit then the upper bound on the scale of new physics that follows from the vacuum stability requirement would be decreased dramatically even for modest values of coefficients of effective operators implying new physics already at the scale of a few TeV.

Testing Scalar-Sector CP Violation in Top-Quark Production and Decay at Linear e+e- Colliders

We consider a general two-Higgs-doublet model with CP violation in the scalar sector. Three neutral Higgs fields of the model all mix and the resulting physical Higgs bosons have no definite CP properties. That leads, at the one-loop level of the perturbation expansion, to CP-violating form factors for gamma-t-tbar, Z-t-tbar and W-t-b interaction vertices. We discuss asymmetries sensitive to CP violation induced by the form factors for the process e^+ e^- -> t tbar -> l^\pm ... and e^+ e^- -> t tbar -> b/bbar ... at future linear e+ e- colliders.

Testing Top-Quark Yukawa Interactions in e+ e- -> t \bar{t} Z

Determination of the top-quark Yukawa couplings in the process e+ e- -> t \bar{t} Z has been studied for the high luminosity option (\int L=500\fbinver) of a linear e+e- collider. Polarization of the electron beam has been considered. The method of optimal observables has been adopted to determine the couplings and to disentangle different models. It has been found that it could be possible to discriminate between the Standard Model scalar Higgs boson, pure pseudoscalar and the Higgs boson of mixed CP at about 12 σlevel for \sqrt{s}=1.TeV for the Higgs boson close to the production threshold both for the leptonic and hadronic top-quark decay channels. However, \sqrt{s}=.5 TeV collider turned out to have too small energy for tests of the top-quark Yukawa coupling because of its limited production rate (at most 2.5 σeffect). Possible tests of CP violation in the scalar sector have been considered.

Energy Spectrum of Secondary Leptons in $e^+ e^- \to t\bar{t}$ - Non-standard Interactions and CP Violation -

The process of top-quark pair production at future high-energy $e^+ e^-$ linear colliders has been investigated as a possible test of physics beyond the Standard Model. Non-standard interactions have been assumed both for the production and for the subsequent decay of the top quarks. The energy spectrum of the single lepton $l^\pm$ and the energy correlation of $l^+$ and $l^-$ emerging from the process $e^+e^-\to t\bar{t}\to l^\pm X/l^+l^-X$ are calculated. The energy- spectrum asymmetry of $l^+$ and $l^-$ is considered as a measure of CP violation. An optimal method to determine whether CP violation occurs in the production or in the decay processes is proposed.

Higgs boson production at $e^+ e^-$ colliders: a model independent approach.

We consider non-Standard Model physics effects using an effective lagrangian parameterization. We determine the operators whose effects are most significant and extract the sensitivity to the scale of new physics generated by the existing data. We then consider processes containing the Higgs particle in $e^+e^-$ colliders as a probe for new physics effects, and demonstrate their usefulness in this area.
