CoV: Chain-of-View Prompting for Spatial Reasoning

Embodied question answering (EQA) in 3D environments often requires collecting context that is distributed across multiple viewpoints and partially occluded. However, most recent vision--language models (VLMs) are constrained to a fixed and finite set of input views, which limits their ability to acquire question-relevant context at inference time and hinders complex spatial reasoning. We propose Chain-of-View (CoV) prompting, a training-free, test-time reasoning framework that transforms a VLM into an active viewpoint reasoner through a coarse-to-fine exploration process. CoV first employs a View Selection agent to filter redundant frames and identify question-aligned anchor views. It then performs fine-grained view adjustment by interleaving iterative reasoning with discrete camera actions, obtaining new observations from the underlying 3D scene representation until sufficient context is gathered or a step budget is reached. We evaluate CoV on OpenEQA across four mainstream VLMs and obtain an average +11.56% improvement in LLM-Match, with a maximum gain of +13.62% on Qwen3-VL-Flash. CoV further exhibits test-time scaling: increasing the minimum action budget yields an additional +2.51% average improvement, peaking at +3.73% on Gemini-2.5-Flash. On ScanQA and SQA3D, CoV delivers strong performance (e.g., 116 CIDEr / 31.9 EM@1 on ScanQA and 51.1 EM@1 on SQA3D). Overall, these results suggest that question-aligned view selection coupled with open-view search is an effective, model-agnostic strategy for improving spatial reasoning in 3D EQA without additional training. Flash-GRPO: Efficient Alignment for Video Diffusion via One-Step Policy Optimization

Group Relative Policy Optimization has emerged as essential for aligning video diffusion models with human preferences, but faces a critical computational bottleneck: training a 14B parametered model typically demands hundreds of GPU days per experiment. Existing efficiency methods reduce costs through sliding window subsampling training timesteps, but fundamentally compromise optimization, exhibiting severe instability and failing to reach full trajectory performance. We present Flash-GRPO, a single-step training framework that outperforms full trajectory training in alignment quality under low computational budgets while substantially improving training efficiency. Flash-GRPO addresses two critical challenges: iso-temporal grouping eliminates timestep-confounded variance by enforcing prompt-wise temporal consistency, decoupling policy performance from timestep difficulty; temporal gradient rectification neutralizes the time-dependent scaling factor that causes vastly inconsistent gradient magnitudes across timesteps. Experiments on 1.3B to 14B parameter models validate Flash-GRPO's effectiveness, demonstrating substantial training acceleration with consistent stability and state-of-the-art alignment quality.

FlashAR: Efficient Post-Training Acceleration for Autoregressive Image Generation

Large-scale autoregressive models have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in image generation. However, their sequential raster-scan decoding relies on strictly next-token prediction, making inference prohibitively expensive. Existing acceleration methods typically either introduce entirely new generation paradigms that necessitate costly pre-training from scratch, or enable parallel generation at the expense of a training-inference gap or altered prediction objectives. In this paper, we introduce FlashAR, a lightweight post-training adaptation framework that efficiently adapts a pre-trained raster-scan autoregressive model into a highly parallel generator based on two-way next-token prediction. Our key insight is that effective adaptation should minimize modifications to the pre-trained model's original training objective to preserve its learned prior. Accordingly, we retain the original AR head as a horizontal head for row-wise prediction and introduce a complementary, lightweight vertical head for column-wise prediction. To facilitate efficient adaptation, we branch the vertical head from an intermediate layer rather than the final layer, bypassing the inherent horizontal head bias. Moreover, since horizontal and vertical predictions capture complementary dependencies whose relative importance varies across target positions, we employ a learnable fusion gate to dynamically combine the two predictions at each position. To further reduce adaptation cost, we propose a two-stage adaptation pipeline: the vertical head is first initialized through adaptation from the pre-trained autoregressive model before jointly fine-tuned with backbone to adapt to the new decoding paradigm. Extensive experiments on LlamaGen and Emu3.5 show that FlashAR achieves up to a 22.9x speedup for 512x512 image generation through a lightweight post-training with merely 0.05% of the original training data.

An Efficient Spatio-Temporal Pyramid Transformer for Action Detection

The task of action detection aims at deducing both the action category and localization of the start and end moment for each action instance in a long, untrimmed video. While vision Transformers have driven the recent advances in video understanding, it is non-trivial to design an efficient architecture for action detection due to the prohibitively expensive self-attentions over a long sequence of video clips. To this end, we present an efficient hierarchical Spatio-Temporal Pyramid Transformer (STPT) for action detection, building upon the fact that the early self-attention layers in Transformers still focus on local patterns. Specifically, we propose to use local window attention to encode rich local spatio-temporal representations in the early stages while applying global attention modules to capture long-term space-time dependencies in the later stages. In this way, our STPT can encode both locality and dependency with largely reduced redundancy, delivering a promising trade-off between accuracy and efficiency. For example, with only RGB input, the proposed STPT achieves 53.6% mAP on THUMOS14, surpassing I3D+AFSD RGB model by over 10% and performing favorably against state-of-the-art AFSD that uses additional flow features with 31% fewer GFLOPs, which serves as an effective and efficient end-to-end Transformer-based framework for action detection.

Automated Progressive Learning for Efficient Training of Vision Transformers

Recent advances in vision Transformers (ViTs) have come with a voracious appetite for computing power, high-lighting the urgent need to develop efficient training methods for ViTs. Progressive learning, a training scheme where the model capacity grows progressively during training, has started showing its ability in efficient training. In this paper, we take a practical step towards efficient training of ViTs by customizing and automating progressive learning. First, we develop a strong manual baseline for progressive learning of ViTs, by introducing momentum growth (MoGrow) to bridge the gap brought by model growth. Then, we propose automated progressive learning (AutoProg), an efficient training scheme that aims to achieve lossless acceleration by automatically increasing the training overload on-the-fly; this is achieved by adaptively deciding whether, where and how much should the model grow during progressive learning. Specifically, we first relax the optimization of the growth schedule to sub-network architecture optimization problem, then propose one-shot estimation of the sub-network performance via an elastic supernet. The searching overhead is reduced to minimal by recycling the parameters of the supernet. Extensive experiments of efficient training on ImageNet with two representative ViT models, DeiT and VOLO, demonstrate that AutoProg can accelerate ViTs training by up to 85.1% with no performance drop. FocusFormer: Focusing on What We Need via Architecture Sampler

Vision Transformers (ViTs) have underpinned the recent breakthroughs in computer vision. However, designing the architectures of ViTs is laborious and heavily relies on expert knowledge. To automate the design process and incorporate deployment flexibility, one-shot neural architecture search decouples the supernet training and architecture specialization for diverse deployment scenarios. To cope with an enormous number of sub-networks in the supernet, existing methods treat all architectures equally important and randomly sample some of them in each update step during training. During architecture search, these methods focus on finding architectures on the Pareto frontier of performance and resource consumption, which forms a gap between training and deployment. In this paper, we devise a simple yet effective method, called FocusFormer, to bridge such a gap. To this end, we propose to learn an architecture sampler to assign higher sampling probabilities to those architectures on the Pareto frontier under different resource constraints during supernet training, making them sufficiently optimized and hence improving their performance. During specialization, we can directly use the well-trained architecture sampler to obtain accurate architectures satisfying the given resource constraint, which significantly improves the search efficiency. Extensive experiments on CIFAR-100 and ImageNet show that our FocusFormer is able to improve the performance of the searched architectures while significantly reducing the search cost. For example, on ImageNet, our FocusFormer-Ti with 1.4G FLOPs outperforms AutoFormer-Ti by 0.5% in terms of the Top-1 accuracy.

Mesa: A Memory-saving Training Framework for Transformers

There has been an explosion of interest in designing high-performance Transformers. While Transformers have delivered significant performance improvements, training such networks is extremely memory intensive owing to storing all intermediate activations that are needed for gradient computation during backpropagation, especially for long sequences. To this end, we present Mesa, a memory-saving training framework for Transformers. Specifically, Mesa uses exact activations during forward pass while storing a low-precision version of activations to reduce memory consumption during training. The low-precision activations are then dequantized during back-propagation to compute gradients. Besides, to address the heterogeneous activation distributions in the multi-head self-attention layers, we propose a head-wise activation quantization strategy, which quantizes activations based on the statistics of each head to minimize the approximation error. To further boost training efficiency, we learn quantization parameters by running estimates. More importantly, by re-investing the saved memory in employing a larger batch size or scaling up model size, we may further improve the performance under constrained computational resources. Extensive experiments on ImageNet, CIFAR-100 and ADE20K demonstrate that Mesa can achieve flexible memory-savings (up to 50%) during training while achieving comparable or even better performance. Rapid Elastic Architecture Search under Specialized Classes and Resource Constraints

In many real-world applications, we often need to handle various deployment scenarios, where the resource constraint and the superclass of interest corresponding to a group of classes are dynamically specified. How to efficiently deploy deep models for diverse deployment scenarios is a new challenge. Previous NAS approaches seek to design architectures for all classes simultaneously, which may not be optimal for some individual superclasses. A straightforward solution is to search an architecture from scratch for each deployment scenario, which however is computation-intensive and impractical. To address this, we present a novel and general framework, called Elastic Architecture Search (EAS), permitting instant specializations at runtime for diverse superclasses with various resource constraints. To this end, we first propose to effectively train an over-parameterized network via a superclass dropout strategy during training. In this way, the resulting model is robust to the subsequent superclasses dropping at inference time. Based on the well-trained over-parameterized network, we then propose an efficient architecture generator to obtain promising architectures within a single forward pass. Experiments on three image classification datasets show that EAS is able to find more compact networks with better performance while remarkably being orders of magnitude faster than state-of-the-art NAS methods, e.g., outperforming OFA (once-for-all) by 1.3% on Top-1 accuracy at a budget around 361M #MAdds on ImageNet-10. More critically, EAS is able to find compact architectures within 0.1 second for 50 deployment scenarios.

Structured Binary Neural Networks for Image Recognition

We propose methods to train convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with both binarized weights and activations, leading to quantized models that are specifically friendly to mobile devices with limited power capacity and computation resources. Previous works on quantizing CNNs often seek to approximate the floating-point information using a set of discrete values, which we call value approximation, typically assuming the same architecture as the full-precision networks. Here we take a novel "structure approximation" view of quantization -- it is very likely that different architectures designed for low-bit networks may be better for achieving good performance. In particular, we propose a "network decomposition" strategy, termed Group-Net, in which we divide the network into groups. Thus, each full-precision group can be effectively reconstructed by aggregating a set of homogeneous binary branches. In addition, we learn effective connections among groups to improve the representation capability. Moreover, the proposed Group-Net shows strong generalization to other tasks. For instance, we extend Group-Net for accurate semantic segmentation by embedding rich context into the binary structure. Furthermore, for the first time, we apply binary neural networks to object detection. Experiments on both classification, semantic segmentation and object detection tasks demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed methods over various quantized networks in the literature. Our methods outperform the previous best binary neural networks in terms of accuracy and computation efficiency.

Automatic Pruning for Quantized Neural Networks

Neural network quantization and pruning are two techniques commonly used to reduce the computational complexity and memory footprint of these models for deployment. However, most existing pruning strategies operate on full-precision and cannot be directly applied to discrete parameter distributions after quantization. In contrast, we study a combination of these two techniques to achieve further network compression. In particular, we propose an effective pruning strategy for selecting redundant low-precision filters. Furthermore, we leverage Bayesian optimization to efficiently determine the pruning ratio for each layer. We conduct extensive experiments on CIFAR-10 and ImageNet with various architectures and precisions. In particular, for ResNet-18 on ImageNet, we prune 26.12% of the model size with Binarized Neural Network quantization, achieving a top-1 classification accuracy of 47.32% in a model of 2.47 MB and 59.30% with a 2-bit DoReFa-Net in 4.36 MB.

Generative Low-bitwidth Data Free Quantization

Neural network quantization is an effective way to compress deep models and improve their execution latency and energy efficiency, so that they can be deployed on mobile or embedded devices. Existing quantization methods require original data for calibration or fine-tuning to get better performance. However, in many real-world scenarios, the data may not be available due to confidential or private issues, thereby making existing quantization methods not applicable. Moreover, due to the absence of original data, the recently developed generative adversarial networks (GANs) cannot be applied to generate data. Although the full-precision model may contain rich data information, such information alone is hard to exploit for recovering the original data or generating new meaningful data. In this paper, we investigate a simple-yet-effective method called Generative Low-bitwidth Data Free Quantization (GDFQ) to remove the data dependence burden. Specifically, we propose a knowledge matching generator to produce meaningful fake data by exploiting classification boundary knowledge and distribution information in the pre-trained model. With the help of generated data, we can quantize a model by learning knowledge from the pre-trained model. Extensive experiments on three data sets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. More critically, our method achieves much higher accuracy on 4-bit quantization than the existing data free quantization method. Code is available at https://github.com/xushoukai/GDFQ.

Role-Wise Data Augmentation for Knowledge Distillation

Knowledge Distillation (KD) is a common method for transferring the ``knowledge'' learned by one machine learning model (the \textit{teacher}) into another model (the \textit{student}), where typically, the teacher has a greater capacity (e.g., more parameters or higher bit-widths). To our knowledge, existing methods overlook the fact that although the student absorbs extra knowledge from the teacher, both models share the same input data -- and this data is the only medium by which the teacher's knowledge can be demonstrated. Due to the difference in model capacities, the student may not benefit fully from the same data points on which the teacher is trained. On the other hand, a human teacher may demonstrate a piece of knowledge with individualized examples adapted to a particular student, for instance, in terms of her cultural background and interests. Inspired by this behavior, we design data augmentation agents with distinct roles to facilitate knowledge distillation. Our data augmentation agents generate distinct training data for the teacher and student, respectively. We find empirically that specially tailored data points enable the teacher's knowledge to be demonstrated more effectively to the student. We compare our approach with existing KD methods on training popular neural architectures and demonstrate that role-wise data augmentation improves the effectiveness of KD over strong prior approaches. Switchable Precision Neural Networks

Instantaneous and on demand accuracy-efficiency trade-off has been recently explored in the context of neural networks slimming. In this paper, we propose a flexible quantization strategy, termed Switchable Precision neural Networks (SP-Nets), to train a shared network capable of operating at multiple quantization levels. At runtime, the network can adjust its precision on the fly according to instant memory, latency, power consumption and accuracy demands. For example, by constraining the network weights to 1-bit with switchable precision activations, our shared network spans from BinaryConnect to Binarized Neural Network, allowing to perform dot-products using only summations or bit operations. In addition, a self-distillation scheme is proposed to increase the performance of the quantized switches. We tested our approach with three different quantizers and demonstrate the performance of SP-Nets against independently trained quantized models in classification accuracy for Tiny ImageNet and ImageNet datasets using ResNet-18 and MobileNet architectures.

Training Quantized Neural Networks with a Full-precision Auxiliary Module

In this paper, we seek to tackle a challenge in training low-precision networks: the notorious difficulty in propagating gradient through a low-precision network due to the non-differentiable quantization function. We propose a solution by training the low-precision network with a fullprecision auxiliary module. Specifically, during training, we construct a mix-precision network by augmenting the original low-precision network with the full precision auxiliary module. Then the augmented mix-precision network and the low-precision network are jointly optimized. This strategy creates additional full-precision routes to update the parameters of the low-precision model, thus making the gradient back-propagates more easily. At the inference time, we discard the auxiliary module without introducing any computational complexity to the low-precision network. We evaluate the proposed method on image classification and object detection over various quantization approaches and show consistent performance increase. In particular, we achieve near lossless performance to the full-precision model by using a 4-bit detector, which is of great practical value.
