We use modified scattering theory to demonstrate that small-data solutions to the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation on rescaled waveguide manifolds, R×Td for d≥2, demonstrate boundedness of Sobolev norms as well as weak instability.
A characteristic of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE), when defined so that the space variable is the multi-dimensional square (hence rational) torus, is that there exist solutions that start with arbitrarily small norms Sobolev norms and evolve to develop arbitrarily large modes at later times; this phenomenon is recognized as a weak energy transfer to high modes for the NLSE. In this paper, we show that when the system is considered on an irrational torus, energy transfer is more difficult to detect.
This article explores the questions of long time orbital stability in high order Sobolev norms of plane wave solutions to the NLSE in the defocusing case.
We show that every continuous simple curve with σ-finite length has a tangent at positively many points. We also apply this result to functions with finite lower scaled oscillation; and study the validity of the results in higher dimension.
This article establishes a real-variable argument for Zygmund's theorem on almost everywhere convergence of strong arithmetic means of partial sums of Fourier series on T, up to passing to a subsequence. Our approach extends to, among other cases, functions that are defined on Td, which allows us to establish an analogue of Zygmund's theorem in higher dimensions.
