Second quantization approach to COVID-19 epidemic

We show how the standard field theoretical language based on creation and annihilation operators may be used for a straightforward derivation of an SIR-type stochastic model for COVID-19 epidemic, from which we obtain the time evolution of the mean number of infectious (active cases) and deceased individuals. In order to capture the effects of lockdown and social distancing, we use a time-dependent infection rate. The results are in good agreement with the data for three different waves of epidemic activity in South Korea.

Limits on 331 vector bosons from LHC proton collision data

In this paper, limits are set on bileptons masses and couplings in the context of the the 331 Model, as well as generic, non-331 Models predicting bileptons. The following measurable processes are studied: $pp \rightarrow \ell^{+}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}\ell^{-}X$, $pp \rightarrow \ell^{+}\ell^{-} ννX$ and $pp \rightarrow \ell^{+}\ell^{-} X$. Experimental limits on singly-charged bileptons masses and couplings within 331 Models are also obtained for the first time. With the results, an over 20 year-old experimental limit on vector bileptons is increased by 60\%. The computed limits are now the most stringent ones for these particles.

First results on Bilepton production based on LHC collision data and predictions for Run II

The LHC potential for discovering doubly-charged vector bileptons is investigated considering the measurable process $p p$ $\rightarrow$ $μ^{\mp}μ^{\mp}μ^{\pm}μ^{\pm} X$. The study is performed assuming different bilepton and leptoquark masses. The process cross-section is calculated at leading-order using the \textsc{Calchep} package. Combining the calculation with the latest ATLAS experiment results at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, bounds on bilepton masses based on LHC data are derived for the first time. The results exclude bileptons masses in the range of 200 GeV to 500 GeV at 95\% C.L., depending on the leptoquark mass. Moreover, minimal LHC integrated luminosities needed for discovering and for setting limits on bilepton masses are obtained for 13 TeV center-of-mass energy. Simulated events are passed through a fast parametric detector simulation using the Delphes package.

Cosmic Ray Muons Timing in the ATLAS Detector

In this talk I discuss the use of calorimeter timing both for detector commissioning and in searches for new physics. In particular I present real and simulated cosmic ray muons data results for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter system. The analysis shows that several detector errors such as imperfect calibrations can be uncovered. I also demonstrate the use of ATLAS Tile Calorimeters excellent timing resolution in suppressing cosmic ray fake missing transverse energy in searches for supersymmetry.
