Relative Garside elements of Artin monoids

We introduce a relative Garside element, the quotient of the corresponding Garside elements G1 and G2, for a pair of Artin monoids associated to Coxeter graphs Gamma1 and Gamma2, the second graph containing a new vertex. These relative elements give a recurrence relation between Garside elements. As an application, we compute explicitly the Garside elements of Artin monoids corresponding to spherical Coxeter graphs or the longest elements of the associated finite Coxeter groups.

Cohomology of 3-points configuration spaces of complex projective spaces

We compute the Betti numbers and describe the cohomology algebras of the ordered and unordered configuration spaces of three points in complex projective spaces, including the infinite dimensional case. We also compute these invariants for the configuration spaces of three collinear and non-collinear points.

Representation theory for the Kriz model

The natural action of the symmetric group on the configuration spaces F(X; n) induces an action on the Kriz model E(X; n). The represen- tation theory of this DGA is studied and a big acyclic subcomplex which is Sn-invariant is described.

Braid groups in complex projective spaces

We describe the fundamental groups of ordered and unordered k point sets in complex projective space of dimension n generating a projective subspace of dimension i. We apply these to study connectivity of more complicated configurations of points.

Fibonacci numbers and positive braids

The paper contains enumerative combinatorics for positive braids, square free braids, and simple braids, emphasizing connections with classical Fibonacci sequence. The simple subgraph of the Cayley graph of the braid group is analyzed in the final part.

Recurrence relation for HOMFLY polynomial and rational specializations

Turning the skein relation for HOMFLY into a Fibonacci recurrence, we prove that there are only three rational specializations of HOMFLY polynomial: Alexander-Conway, Jones, and a new one. Using the recurrence relation, we find general and relative expansion formulae and rational generating functions for Alexander-Conway polynomial and the new polynomial, which reduce the computations to closure of simple braids, a subset of square free braids; HOMFLY polynomials of these simple braids are also computed. Algebraic independence of these three polynomials is proved.

Recurrence relation for Jones polynomials

Using a simple recurrence relation we give a new method to compute Jones polynomials of closed braids: we find a general expansion formula and a rational generating function for Jones polynomials. The method is used to estimate degree of Jones polynomials for some families of braids and to obtain general qualitative results.

Simple Braids

We study a subset of square free positive braids and we give a few algebraic characterizations of them and one geometric characterization: the set of positive braids whose closures are unlinks. We describe canonical forms of these braids and of their conjugacy classes.

What Could Be a Simple Permutation?

Different ways to describe a permutation, as a sequence of integers, or a product of Coxeter generators, or a tree, give different choices to define a simple permutation. We recollect few of them, define new types of simple permutations, and analyze their interconnections and some asymptotic and geometrical properties of these classes.
