Optically trapped exciton-polariton condensates in a perovskite microcavity

We demonstrate room temperature optical trapping and generation of high-order angular harmonics in exciton-polariton condensates in a monocrystalline CsPbBr$_3$ perovskite-filled microcavity. Using an annular nonresonant excitation profile focused onto the perovskite, we observed power-driven switching between different transverse modes of the optically induced trap. We explore the interplay between the perovskite crystal dimensions and the optical trap diameter that allows the condensate to transition from whispering gallery-like petal shapes to extended ripple states. Our results underline the feasibility in creating high-order quantum states in perovskite polariton condensates for reconfigurable and structured room temperature nonlinear lasing.

Control of dimer chain topology by Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling

We study theoretically a dimer chain in the presence of Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling (RDSOC) with equal strength. We show that the RDSOC can be described as a synthetic gauge field that controls not only the magnitude but also the sign of tunneling coefficients between sites. This allows to emulate not only a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain which is commonly implemented in various platforms, but also, all energy spectra of the transverse field Ising model with both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic coupling. We simulate a realistic implementation of these effective Hamiltonians based on liquid crystal microcavities. In that case, the RDSOC can be switched on and off by an applied voltage, which controls the band topology, the existence and characteristics of topological edge states, or the nature of the ground state. This setting is promising for topological photonics applications and from a quantum simulation perspective.

Neural networks based on ultrafast time-delayed effects in exciton-polaritons

We demonstrate that time-delayed nonlinear effects in exciton-polaritons can be used to construct neural networks where information is coded in optical pulses arriving consecutively on the sample. The highly nonlinear effects are induced by time-dependent interactions with the excitonic reservoir. These nonlinearities allow to create a nonlinear XOR logic gate that can perform operations on the picosecond timescale. An optoelectronic neural network based on the constructed logic gate performs classification of spoken digits with a high accuracy rate.

Photonic Berry curvature in double liquid crystal microcavities with broken inversion symmetry

We investigate a photonic device consisting of two coupled optical cavities possessing Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling, TE-TM splitting, and linear polarisation splitting that opens a tuneable energy gap at the diabolic points of the photon dispersion; giving rise to an actively addressable local Berry curvature. The proposed architecture stems from recent advancements in the design of artificial photonic gauge fields in liquid crystal cavities [K. Rechcińska et al., Science 366, 727 (2019)]. Our study opens new perspectives for topological photonics, room-temperature spinoptronics, and studies on the quantum geometrical structure of photonic bands in extreme settings.

Strong coupling and polariton lasing in Te based microcavities embedding (Cd,Zn)Te quantum wells

We report on properties of an optical microcavity based on (Cd,Zn,Mg)Te layers and embedding (Cd,Zn)Te quantum wells. The key point of the structure design is the lattice matching of the whole structure to MgTe, which eliminates the internal strain and allows one to embed an arbitrary number of unstrained quantum wells in the microcavity. We evidence the strong light-matter coupling regime already for the structure containing a single quantum well. Embedding four unstrained quantum wells results in further enhancement of the exciton-photon coupling and the polariton lasing in the strong coupling regime.
