Full counting statistics in the many-body Hatano-Nelson model

We study non-hermitian many-body physics in the interacting Hatano-Nelson model with open boundary condition. The violation of reciprocity, resulting from an imaginary vector potential, induces the non-hermitian skin-effect and causes exponential localization for all single particle eigenfunctions in the non-interacting limit. Nevertheless, the density profile of the interacting system becomes only slightly tilted relative to the average filling. The Friedel oscillations exhibit a beating pattern due to the modification of the Fermi wavenumber. The probability distribution of particles over any finite interval is the normal distribution, whose mean scales with the imaginary vector potential and the variance is symmetric to the center of the chain. This is confirmed by several numerically exact methods even for relatively small systems. These features are expected to be generic not only for fermions, which naturally repel each other due to Pauli's exclusion principle, but for interacting bosons as well. Our findings indicate that many-body effects can significantly alter and conceal the single particle properties and the skin effect in non-hermitian systems.

Rabi Oscillations in Landau-Quantized Graphene

We investigate the relation between the canonical model of quantum optics, the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian and Dirac fermions in quantizing magnetic field. We demonstrate that Rabi oscillations are observable in the optical response of graphene, providing us with a transparent picture about the structure of optical transitions. While the longitudinal conductivity reveals chaotic Rabi oscillations, the Hall component measures coherent ones. This opens up the possibility of investigating a microscopic model of a few quantum objects in a macroscopic experiment with tunable parameters.

Spin-lattice interaction in the quasi one-dimensional helimagnet LiCu_2O_2

The field dependence of the electron spin resonance in a helimagnet, LiCu_2O_2, was investigated for the first time. In the paramagnetic state a broad resonance line was observed corresponding to a g-factor of 2.3. In the critical regime around the paramagnetic to helimagnetic phase transition the resonance broadens and shifts to higher frequencies. A narrow signal is recovered at low temperature, corresponding to a spin gap of 1.5 meV in zero field. A comprehensive model of the magnons is presented, using exchange parameters from neutron scattering (T. Masuda et al, Phys. Rev. B 72, 014405), and the spin anisotropy determined here. The role of the quantum fluctuations is discussed.
