Effects of Electron-Vibrational Interaction in Polariton Luminescence: Non-Markovian Fano Resonances and Hot Luminescence

We have developed a non-Markovian theory of the polariton luminescence taking the molecular vibrations into account. The calculations were made in the polariton basis. We have shown that the frequency shift and the polariton spectral lines broadening strongly depend on the frequency-dependent exciton contribution to the polariton. In the single-mode microcavity our non-Markovian theory predicts the Fano resonances in the polariton luminescence, and also narrowing of the spectral lines with the increase of the total number of molecules in the case of the intramolecular nature of the low frequency vibrations. The theory enables us to consider a non-equilibrium (hot) exciton-polariton luminescence similar to the hot luminescence of molecules and crystals. This opens a way for its observation in organic-based nanodevices.

Nonlinear organic plasmonics

Purely organic materials with negative and near-zero dielectric permittivity can be easily fabricated. Here we develop a theory of nonlinear non-steady-state organic plasmonics with strong laser pulses. The bistability response of the electron-vibrational model of organic materials in the condensed phase has been demonstrated. Non-steady-state organic plasmonics enable us to obtain near-zero dielectric permittivity during a short time. We have proposed to use non-steady-state organic plasmonics for the enhancement of intersite dipolar energy-transfer interaction in the quantum dot wire that influences on electron transport through nanojunctions. Such interactions can compensate Coulomb repulsions for particular conditions. We propose the exciton control of Coulomb blocking in the quantum dot wire based on the non-steady-state near-zero dielectric permittivity of the organic host medium.

Green-function method for calculation of adsorption of organic molecules on noble metal nanoparticles

A numerical method for calculation electronic structure of a nanosystem composed of a pseudoisocyanine (PIC) molecule assembled on a silver nanoparticle is developed. The electronic structure of the silver nanoparticle containing 125 atoms is calculated within the local density version of the density functional method. A model of an Ag atom embedded in the center of a spherical jellium cluster is used. The host electron Green function is calculated by means of the spherically symmetric expansion. The principal theoretical tool is the scattering theory using the Green function method. The molecule -- silver nanoparticle interaction is studied using the approach similar to that of the Anderson model for transition metal impurities in solids. Localized levels are shown to split off from the top of the band of the nanosystem. The electronic structure calculations yield information on the character of chemical bonding in the PIC molecule --- silver particle nanosystem.

Exciton- and Light-induced Current in Molecular Nanojunctions

We consider exciton- and light-induced current in molecular nanojunctions. Using a model comprising a two two-level sites bridge connecting free electron reservoirs we show that the exciton coupling between the sites of the molecular bridge can markedly effect the source-drain current through a molecular junction. In some cases when excited and unexcited states of the sites are coupled differently to the leads, the contribution from electron-hole excitations can exceed the Landauer elastic current and dominate the observed conduction. We have proposed an optical control method using chirped pulses for enhancing charge transfer in unbiased junctions where the bridging molecule is characterized by a strong charge-transfer transition.

Adiabatic passage in a three-state system with non-Markovian relaxation: The role of excited-state absorption and two-exciton processes

The influence of excited-state absorption (ESA) and two-exciton processes on a coherent population transfer with intense ultrashort chirped pulses in molecular systems in solution has been studied. An unified treatment of adiabatic rapid passage (ARP) in such systems has been developed using a three-state electronic system with relaxation treated as a diffusion on electronic potential energy surfaces. We have shown that ESA has a profound effect on coherent population transfer in large molecules that necessitates a more accurate interpretation of experimental data. A simple and physically clear model for ARP in molecules with three electronic states in solution has been developed by extending the Landau-Zener calculations putting in a third level to random crossing of levels. A method for quantum control of two-exciton states in molecular complexes has been proposed.
