Quasi-2D Fermi surface of superconducting line-nodal metal CaSb$_2$

We report on the Fermi surfaces and superconducting parameters of CaSb$_2$ single crystals (superconducting below $T_{\text{c}}\sim 1.8~\text{K}$) grown by the self-flux method. The frequency of de-Haas-van-Alphen and Shubnikov-de-Haas oscillations evidences a quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) Fermi surface, consistent with one of the Fermi surfaces forming Dirac lines predicted by first-principles calculations. Measurements in the superconducting state reveal that CaSb$_2$ is close to a type-I superconductor with the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) parameter of around unity. The temperature dependence of the upper critical field $H_{\text{c2}}$ is well described by a model considering two superconducting bands, and the enhancement of the effective mass estimated from $H_{\text{c2}}(0~\text{K})$ is consistent with the quasi-2D band observed by the quantum oscillations. Our results indicate that a quasi-2D band forming Dirac lines contributes to the superconductivity in CaSb$_2$.

Penetration depth and gap structure in the antiperovskite oxide superconductor Sr$_{3-x}$SnO revealed by $μ$SR

We report a $μ$SR study on the antiperovskite oxide superconductor Sr$_{3-x}$SnO. With transverse-field $μ$SR, we observed the increase of the muon relaxation rate upon cooling below the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\mathrm{c}}=5.4$ K, evidencing bulk superconductivity. The exponential temperature dependence of the relaxation rate $σ$ at low temperatures suggests a fully gapped superconducting state. We evaluated the zero-temperature penetration depth $λ(0)\propto1/\sqrt{σ(0)}$ to be around 320-1020 nm. Such a large value is consistent with the picture of a doped Dirac semimetal. Moreover, we revealed that the ratio $T_{\mathrm{c}}/λ(0)^{-2}$ is larger than those of ordinary superconductors and is comparable to those of unconventional superconductors. The relatively high $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ for small carrier density may hint at an unconventional pairing mechanism beyond the ordinary phonon-mediated pairing. In addition, zero-field $μ$SR did not provide evidence of broken time-reversal symmetry in the superconducting state. These features are consistent with the theoretically proposed topological superconducting state in Sr$_{3-x}$SnO, as well as with $s$-wave superconductivity.

Superconductivity in the nonsymmorphic line-nodal compound CaSb$_2$

We found superconductivity in CaSb$_2$ with the transition temperature of 1.7 K by means of electrical-resistivity, magnetic-susceptibility, and specific-heat measurements. This material crystallizes in a nonsymmorphic structure and is predicted to have multiple Dirac nodal lines in the bulk electronic band structure protected by symmetry even in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. We discuss a possible topological superconductivity for the quasi-2-dimensional band originating mainly from one of the antimony sites.

Effect of delithiation on the dimer transition of the honeycomb-lattice ruthenate Li$_{2-x}$RuO$_3$

The honeycomb-lattice ruthenate Li$_2$RuO$_3$ is made heavily Li-deficient by chemical oxidation by iodine. The delithiation triggers a different phase Li$_{2-x}$RuO$_3$, the "D-phase", with superlattice. For the first time we disclose the magnetic and structural properties of the D-phase in the dimer-solid state. The low temperature magnetic susceptibility and the bond lengths indicate a bonding configuration consisting of both Ru$^{4+}$-Ru$^{4+}$ and Ru$^{5+}$-Ru$^{5+}$ dimers.

Effect of disorder on the dimer transition of the honeycomb-lattice compound Li$_{2}$RuO$_3$

We report the dependence of magnetic properties on the crystalline disorder in Li$_{2}$RuO$_3$ with Ru honeycomb lattice. This oxide exhibits unconventional Ru-dimer transition below $T_\text{d} \sim$ 540 K. We demonstrate that the cell parameters, related to the coherence of the dimer formation, are strongly dependent on the synthesis procedure. We show that the magnetic behavior at the dimer transition is closely related to the lattice parameters. In particular, we revealed that samples with well-ordered dimers exhibit a first-order magnetic transition with the onset exceeding 550~K, higher than that reported previously. We discuss possible dimer configurations leading to this magneto-lattice coupling.
