Current correlations, Drude weights and large deviations in a box-ball system

We explore several aspects of the current fluctuations and correlations in the box-ball system (BBS), an integrable cellular automaton in one space dimension. The state we consider is an ensemble of microscopic configurations where the box occupancies are independent random variables (i.i.d. state), with a given mean ball density. We compute several quantities exactly in such homogeneous stationary state: the mean value and the variance of the number of balls $N_t$ crossing the origin during time $t$, and the scaled cumulants generating function associated to $N_t$. We also compute two spatially integrated current-current correlations. The first one, involving the long-time limit of the current-current correlations, is the so-called Drude weight and is obtained with thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA). The second one, involving equal time current-current correlations is calculated using a transfer matrix approach. A family of generalized currents, associated to the conserved charges and to the different time evolutions of the models are constructed. The long-time limits of their correlations generalize the Drude weight and the second cumulant of $N_t$ and are found to obey nontrivial symmetry relations. They are computed using TBA and the results are found to be in good agreement with microscopic simulations of the model. TBA is also used to compute explicitly the whole family of flux Jacobian matrices. Finally, some of these results are extended to a (non-i.i.d.) two-temperatures generalized Gibbs state (with one parameter coupled to the total number of balls, and another one coupled to the total number of solitons).

On tetrahedron type equations associated with $B_3,C_3, F_4$ and $H_3$

Tetrahedron equation is a three dimensional analogue of the Yang-Baxter equation. It allows a formulation in terms of the Coxeter group $A_3$. This short note includes miscellaneous remarks on the generalizations along $B_3, C_3, F_4$ and the non-crystallographic Coxeter group $H_3$. It is a supplement to the author's talk in the online workshop, Combinatorial Representation Theory and Connections with Related Fields, at RIMS, Kyoto University in November 2021.

Large deviations and one-sided scaling limit of randomized multicolor box-ball system

The basic $κ$-color box-ball (BBS) system is an integrable cellular automaton on one dimensional lattice whose local states take $\{0,1,\cdots,κ\}$ with $0$ regarded as an empty box. The time evolution is defined by a combinatorial rule of quantum group theoretical origin, and the complete set of conserved quantities is given by a $κ$-tuple of Young diagrams. In the randomized BBS, a probability distribution on $\{0,1,\cdots,κ\}$ to independently fill the consecutive $n$ sites in the initial state induces a highly nontrivial probability measure on the $κ$-tuple of those invariant Young diagrams. In a recent work \cite{kuniba2018randomized}, their large $n$ `equilibrium shape' has been determined in terms of Schur polynomials by a Markov chain method and also by a very different approach of Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA). In this paper, we establish a large deviations principle for the row lengths of the invariant Young diagrams. As a corollary, they are shown to converge almost surely to the equilibrium shape at an exponential rate. We also refine the TBA analysis and obtain the exact scaling form of the vacancy, the row length and the column multiplicity, which exhibit nontrivial factorization in a one-parameter specialization.

Matrix product formula for $U_q(A^{(1)}_2)$-zero range process

The $U_q(A^{(1)}_n)$-zero range processes introduced recently by Mangazeev, Maruyama and the authors are integrable discrete and continuous time Markov processes associated with the stochastic $R$ matrix derived from the well-known $U_q(A_n^{(1)})$ quantum $R$ matrix. By constructing a representation of the relevant Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra, we present, for $n=2$, a matrix product formula for the steady state probabilities in terms of $q$-boson operators.

Multispecies totally asymmetric zero range process: I. Multiline process and combinatorial $R$

We introduce an $n$-species totally asymmetric zero range process ($n$-TAZRP) on one-dimensional periodic lattice with $L$ sites. It is a continuous time Markov process in which $n$ species of particles hop to the adjacent site only in one direction under the condition that smaller species ones have the priority to do so. Also introduced is an $n$-line process, a companion stochastic system having the uniform steady state from which the $n$-TAZRP is derived as the image by a certain projection $π$. We construct the $π$ by a combinatorial $R$ of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\hat{sl}_L)$ and establish a matrix product formula of the steady state probability of the $n$-TAZRP in terms of corner transfer matrices of a $q=0$-oscillator valued vertex model. These results parallel the recent reformulation of the $n$-species totally asymmetric simple exclusion process ($n$-TASEP) by the authors, demonstrating that $n$-TAZRP and $n$-TASEP are the canonical sister models associated with the symmetric and the antisymmetric tensor representations of $U_q(\hat{sl}_L)$ at $q=0$, respectively.

Multispecies totally asymmetric zero range process: II. Hat relation and tetrahedron equation

We consider a three-dimensional (3D) lattice model associated with the intertwiner of the quantized coordinate ring $A_q(sl_3)$, and introduce a family of layer to layer transfer matrices on $m\times n$ square lattice. By using the tetrahedron equation we derive their commutativity and bilinear relations mixing various boundary conditions. At $q=0$ and $m=n$, they lead to a new proof of the steady state probability of the $n$-species totally asymmetric zero range process obtained recently by the authors, revealing the 3D integrability in the matrix product construction.

Stochastic $R$ matrix for $U_q(A^{(1)}_n)$

We show that the quantum $R$ matrix for symmetric tensor representations of $U_q(A^{(1)}_n)$ satisfies the sum rule required for its stochastic interpretation under a suitable gauge. Its matrix elements at a special point of the spectral parameter are found to factorize into the form that naturally extends Povolotsky's local transition rate in the $q$-Hahn process for $n=1$. Based on these results we formulate new discrete and continuous time integrable Markov processes on a one-dimensional chain in terms of $n$ species of particles obeying asymmetric stochastic dynamics. Bethe ansatz eigenvalues of the Markov matrices are also given.

Tetrahedron equation and generalized quantum groups

We construct $2^n$-families of solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation from $n$-products of three-dimensional $R$ and $L$ operators satisfying the tetrahedron equation. They are identified with the quantum $R$ matrices for the Hopf algebras known as generalized quantum groups. Depending on the number of $R$'s and $L$'s involved in the product, the trace construction interpolates the symmetric tensor representations of $U_q(A^{(1)}_{n-1})$ and the anti-symmetric tensor representations of $U_{-q^{-1}}(A^{(1)}_{n-1})$, whereas a boundary vector construction interpolates the $q$-oscillator representation of $U_q(D^{(2)}_{n+1})$ and the spin representation of $U_{-q^{-1}}(D^{(2)}_{n+1})$. The intermediate cases are associated with an affinization of quantum super algebras.

Combinatorial Yang-Baxter maps arising from tetrahedron equation

We survey the matrix product solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation obtained recently from the tetrahedron equation. They form a family of quantum $R$ matrices of generalized quantum groups interpolating the symmetric tensor representations of $U_q(A^{(1)}_{n-1})$ and the anti-symmetric tensor representations of $U_{-q^{-1}}(A^{(1)}_{n-1})$. We show that at $q=0$ they all reduce to the Yang-Baxter maps called combinatorial $R$, and describe the latter by explicit algorithm.

Multispecies TASEP and combinatorial $R$

We identify the algorithm for constructing steady states of the $n$-species totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) on $L$ site periodic chain by Ferrari and Martin with a composition of combinatorial $R$ for the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\widehat{sl}_L)$ in crystal base theory. Based on this connection and the factorized form of the $R$ matrix derived recently from the tetrahedron equation, we establish a new matrix product formula for the steady state of the TASEP which is expressed in terms of corner transfer matrices of the $q$-oscillator valued five-vertex model at $q=0$.

Multispecies TASEP and the tetrahedron equation

We introduce a family of layer to layer transfer matrices in a three-dimensional (3D) lattice model which can be viewed as partition functions of the $q$-oscillator valued six-vertex model on $m \times n$ square lattice. By invoking the tetrahedron equation we establish their commutativity and bilinear relations mixing various boundary conditions. At $q=0$ and $m=n$, they ultimately yield a new proof of the steady state formula for the $n$-species totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) obtained recently by the authors, revealing the 3D integrability in the matrix product construction.

Tetrahedron Equation and Quantum $R$ Matrices for modular double of $U_q(D^{(2)}_{n+1}), U_q(A^{(2)}_{2n})$ and $U_q(C^{(1)}_{n})$

We introduce a homomorphism from the quantum affine algebras $U_q(D^{(2)}_{n+1}), U_q(A^{(2)}_{2n}), U_q(C^{(1)}_{n})$ to the $n$-fold tensor product of the $q$-oscillator algebra ${\mathcal A}_q$. Their action commute with the solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation obtained by reducing the solutions of the tetrahedron equation associated with the modular and the Fock representations of ${\mathcal A}_q$. In the former case, the commutativity is enhanced to the modular double of these quantum affine algebras.

Tetrahedron equation and quantum R matrices for $q$-oscillator representations of $U_q(A^{(2)}_{2n}), U_q(C^{(1)}_{n})$ and $U_q(D^{(2)}_{n+1})$

The intertwiner of the quantized coordinate ring $A_q(sl_3)$ is known to yield a solution to the tetrahedron equation. By evaluating their $n$-fold composition with special boundary vectors we generate series of solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation. Finding their origin in conventional quantum group theory is a clue to the link between two and three dimensional integrable systems. We identify them with the quantum $R$ matrices associated with the $q$-oscillator representations of $U_q(A^{(2)}_{2n})$, $U_q(C^{(1)}_n)$ and $U_q(D^{(2)}_{n+1})$.

A Common Structure in PBW Bases of the Nilpotent Subalgebra of $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ and Quantized Algebra of Functions

For a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, let $U^+_q(\mathfrak{g})$ be the positive part of the quantized universal enveloping algebra, and $A_q(\mathfrak{g})$ be the quantized algebra of functions. We show that the transition matrix of the PBW bases of $U^+_q(\mathfrak{g})$ coincides with the intertwiner between the irreducible $A_q(\mathfrak{g})$-modules labeled by two different reduced expressions of the longest element of the Weyl group of $\mathfrak{g}$. This generalizes the earlier result by Sergeev on $A_2$ related to the tetrahedron equation and endows a new representation theoretical interpretation with the recent solution to the 3D reflection equation for $C_2$. Our proof is based on a realization of $U^+_q(\mathfrak{g})$ in a quotient ring of $A_q(\mathfrak{g})$.

Tetrahedron equation and quantum R matrices for infinite dimensional modules of U_q(A^{(1)}_1) and U_q(A^{(2)}_2)

From the q-oscillator solution to the tetrahedron equation associated with a quantized coordinate ring, we construct solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation by applying a reduction procedure formulated earlier by S. Sergeev and the first author. The results are identified with the quantum R matrices for the infinite dimensional modules of U_q(A^{(1)}_1) and U_q(A^{(2)}_2) corresponding to an affinization of Verma modules of their subalgebras isomorphic to U_q(sl_2) and U_{q^4}(sl_2).

Tetrahedron Equation and Quantum R Matrices for Spin Representations of B^{(1)}_n, D^{(1)}_n and D^{(2)}_{n+1}

It is known that a solution of the tetrahedron equation generates infinitely many solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation via suitable reductions. In this paper this scheme is applied to an oscillator solution of the tetrahedron equation involving bosons and fermions by using special 3d boundary conditions. The resulting solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation are identified with the quantum R matrices for the spin representations of B^{(1)}_n, D^{(1)}_n and D^{(2)}_{n+1}.

Integrable structure of box-ball systems: crystal, Bethe ansatz, ultradiscretization and tropical geometry

The box-ball system is an integrable cellular automaton on one dimensional lattice. It arises from either quantum or classical integrable systems by the procedures called crystallization and ultradiscretization, respectively. The double origin of the integrability has endowed the box-ball system with a variety of aspects related to Yang-Baxter integrable models in statistical mechanics, crystal base theory in quantum groups, combinatorial Bethe ansatz, geometric crystals, classical theory of solitons, tau functions, inverse scattering method, action-angle variables and invariant tori in completely integrable systems, spectral curves, tropical geometry and so forth. In this review article, we demonstrate these integrable structures of the box-ball system and its generalizations based on the developments in the last two decades.

Bethe Ansatz, Inverse Scattering Transform and Tropical Riemann Theta Function in a Periodic Soliton Cellular Automaton for A^{(1)}_n

We study an integrable vertex model with a periodic boundary condition associated with U_q(A_n^{(1)}) at the crystallizing point q=0. It is an (n+1)-state cellular automaton describing the factorized scattering of solitons. The dynamics originates in the commuting family of fusion transfer matrices and generalizes the ultradiscrete Toda/KP flow corresponding to the periodic box-ball system. Combining Bethe ansatz and crystal theory in quantum group, we develop an inverse scattering/spectral formalism and solve the initial value problem based on several conjectures. The action-angle variables are constructed representing the amplitudes and phases of solitons. By the direct and inverse scattering maps, separation of variables into solitons is achieved and nonlinear dynamics is transformed into a straight motion on a tropical analogue of the Jacobi variety. We decompose the level set into connected components under the commuting family of time evolutions and identify each of them with the set of integer points on a torus. The weight multiplicity formula derived from the q=0 Bethe equation acquires an elegant interpretation as the volume of the phase space expressed by the size and multiplicity of these tori. The dynamical period is determined as an explicit arithmetical function of the n-tuple of Young diagrams specifying the level set. The inverse map, i.e., tropical Jacobi inversion is expressed in terms of a tropical Riemann theta function associated with the Bethe ansatz data. As an application, time average of some local variable is calculated.

Fermionic partition functions for a periodic soliton cellular automaton

Fermionic formulas in combinatorial Bethe ansatz consist of sums of products of q-binomial coefficients. There exist refinements without a sum that are known to yield partition functions of box-ball systems with a prescribed soliton content. In this paper, such a refined fermionic formula is extended to the periodic box-ball system and a q-analogue of the Bethe root counting formula for XXZ chain at $Δ=\infty$.

Periodicities of T and Y-systems, dilogarithm identities, and cluster algebras I: Type B_r

We prove the periodicities of the restricted T and Y-systems associated with the quantum affine algebra of type B_r at any level. We also prove the dilogarithm identities for the Y-systems of type B_r at any level. Our proof is based on the tropical Y-systems and the categorification of the cluster algebra associated with any skew-symmetric matrix by Plamondon. Using this new method, we also give an alternative and simplified proof of the periodicities of the T and Y-systems associated with pairs of simply laced Dynkin diagrams.

Periodicities of T-systems and Y-systems

The unrestricted T-system is a family of relations in the Grothendieck ring of the category of the finite-dimensional modules of the Yangian or the quantum affine algebra associated with a complex simple Lie algebra. The unrestricted T-system admits a reduction called the restricted T-system. In this paper we formulate the periodicity conjecture for the restricted T-systems, which is the counterpart of the known and partially proved periodicity conjecture for the restricted Y-systems. Then, we partially prove the conjecture by various methods: the cluster algebra and cluster category method for the simply laced case, the determinant method for types A and C, and the direct method for types A, D, and B (level 2).

T-systems and Y-systems for quantum affinizations of quantum Kac-Moody algebras

The T-systems and Y-systems are classes of algebraic relations originally associated with quantum affine algebras and Yangians. Recently the T-systems were generalized to quantum affinizations of a wide class of quantum Kac-Moody algebras by Hernandez. In this note we introduce the corresponding Y-systems and establish a relation between T and Y-systems. We also introduce the T and Y-systems associated with a class of cluster algebras, which include the former T and Y-systems of simply laced type as special cases.

Factorization of Combinatorial R matrices and Associated Cellular Automata

Solvable vertex models in statistical mechanics give rise to soliton cellular automata at q=0 in a ferromagnetic regime. By means of the crystal base theory we study a class of such automata associated with non-exceptional quantum affine algebras U'_q(\hat{\geh}_n). Let B_l be the crystal of the U'_q(\hat{\geh}_n)-module corresponding to the l-fold symmetric fusion of the vector representation. For any crystal of the form B = B_{l_1} \otimes ... \otimes B_{l_N}, we prove that the combinatorial R matrix B_M \otimes B \xrightarrow{\sim} B \otimes B_M is factorized into a product of Weyl group operators in a certain domain if M is sufficiently large. It implies the factorization of certain transfer matrix at q=0, hence the time evolution in the associated cellular automata. The result generalizes the ball-moving algorithm in the box-ball systems.

Skew Young diagram method in spectral decomposition of integrable lattice models II: Higher levels

The spectral decomposition of the path space of the vertex model associated to the level $l$ representation of the quantized affine algebra $U_q(\hat{sl}_n)$ is studied. The spectrum and its degeneracy are parametrized by skew Young diagrams and what we call nonmovable tableaux on them, respectively. As a result we obtain the characters for the degeneracy of the spectrum in terms of an alternating sum of skew Schur functions. Also studied are new combinatorial descriptions (spectral decomposition) of the Kostka numbers and the Kostka--Foulkes polynomials. As an application we give a new proof of Nakayashiki--Yamada's theorem about the branching functions of the level $l$ basic representation $lΛ_k$ of $\hat{sl}_n$ and a generalization of the theorem.

Functional Relations in Solvable Lattice Models II

Reported are two applications of the functional relations ($T$-system) among a commuting family of row-to-row transfer matrices proposed in the previous paper Part I. For a general simple Lie algebra $X_r$, we determine the correlation lengths of the associated massive vertex models in the anti-ferroelectric regime and central charges of the RSOS models in two critical regimes. The results reproduce known values or even generalize them, demonstrating the efficiency of the $T$-system.
