One-way Phonon Isolation In Acoustic Waveguides

We present a method to achieve one-way mode isolation in acoustic waveguides by considering spatio-temporal modulation of material properties. Mode conversion between symmetric and antisymmetric shear horizontal (SH) modes of an unbounded plate acoustic waveguide is demonstrated using this method. Analytical and numerical evidence for the possibility of mode conversion is presented. Possible experimental implementation and applications for on chip signal isolation in MEMS devices are also suggested.

An arrayed nanoantenna for broadband light emission and detection

We suggest a broadband optical unidirectional arrayed nanoantenna consisting of equally spaced nanorods of gradually varying length. Each nanorod can be driven by near-field quantum emitters radiating at different frequencies or, according to the reciprocity principle, by an incident light at the same frequency. Broadband unidirectional emission and reception characteristics of the nano-antenna open up novel opportunities for subwavelength light manipulation and quantum communication, as well as for enhancing the performance of photoactive devices such as photovoltaic detectors, light-emitting diodes, and solar cells.

Enhanced emission and light control with tapered plasmonic nanoantennas

We introduce a design of Yagi-Uda plasmonic nanoantennas for enhancing the antenna gain and achieving control over the angular emission of light. We demonstrate that tapering of antenna elements allows to decrease spacing between the antenna elements tenfold also enhancing its emission directivity. We find the optimal tapering angle that provides the maximum directivity enhancement and the minimum end-fire beamwidth.

Giant terahertz near-field enhancement by two-dimensional plasmons

We consider a periodically gated two-dimensional electron system, with a central gate finger biased independently creating a tunable plasmonic cavity in a planar plasmonic crystal. We demonstrate that the plasmons resonantly excited in the periodic plasmonic lattice by incident terahertz radiation can strongly pump the cavity plasmon modes leading to a deep sub-wavelength concentration of terahertz energy with giant electric field enhancement factor up to 10000.
