Early detection of synchrony in coupled oscillator model

In this paper, we study the applicability of an early warning index while studying the transitions to complete and generalized synchronizations in the coupled oscillator models using an unconventional system parameter and the coupling strength as the required control parameters. The coupled oscillator models are widely used and well-documented for studying various aspects of nature. However, the early warning index used in this paper is an explicit function of the mutual information of the coupled oscillators and reaches two different values before the interacting oscillators yield complete and generalized synchronizations. The transitions to synchrony using the unconventional control parameter are associated with a transition to periodic dynamics of the individual oscillators from their initial chaotic dynamics. Besides, when we use the coupling strength as a control parameter, the interacting oscillator exhibits chaotic dynamics during the synchronizations. Our analysis mainly involves different examples of two low-dimensional oscillators. Finally, we extend our study to a network of interacting oscillators. The applicability of the early detection index is verified in all cases.

Comprehending deterministic and stochastic occasional uncoupling induced synchronizations through each other

In this paper, we numerically study the stochastic and the deterministic occasional uncoupling methods of effecting identical synchronized states in low dimensional, dissipative, diffusively coupled, chaotic flows that are otherwise not synchronized when continuously coupled at the same coupling strength parameter. In the process of our attempt to understand the mechanisms behind the success of the occasional uncoupling schemes, we devise a hybrid between the transient uncoupling and the stochastic on-off coupling, and aptly name it the transient stochastic uncoupling---yet another stochastic occasional uncoupling method. Our subsequent investigation on the transient stochastic uncoupling allows us to surpass the effectiveness of the stochastic on-off coupling with very fast on-off switching rate. Additionally, through the transient stochastic uncoupling, we establish that the indicators quantifying the local contracting dynamics in the corresponding transverse manifold are generally not useful in finding the optimal coupling region of the phase space in the case of the deterministic transient uncoupling. In fact, we highlight that the autocorrelation function---a non-local indicator of the dynamics---of the corresponding response system's chaotic time-series dictates when the deterministic uncoupling could be successful. We illustrate all our heuristic results using a few well-known examples of diffusively coupled chaotic oscillators.

Quantum counterpart of Measure synchronization: A study on a pair of Harper systems

Measure synchronization is a well-known phenomenon in coupled classical Hamiltonian systems over last two decades. In this paper, synchronization for coupled Harper system is investigated in both classical and quantum contexts. The concept of measure synchronization involves with the phase space and it seems that the measure synchronization is restricted in classical limit. But, on the contrary, here, we have extended the aforesaid synchronization in quantum domain. In quantum context, the coupling occurs between two many body systems via a time and site dependent potential. The coupling leads to the generation of entanglement between the quantum systems. We have used a technique, which is already accepted in the classical domain, in both the contexts to establish a connection between classical and quantum scenarios. Interestingly, results corresponding to both the cases lead to some common features.

Stable Drug Designing By Minimizing Drug Protein Interaction Energy Using PSO

Each and every biological function in living organism happens as a result of protein-protein interactions. The diseases are no exception to this. Identifying one or more proteins for a particular disease and then designing a suitable chemical compound (known as drug) to destroy these proteins has been an interesting topic of research in bio-informatics. In previous methods, drugs were designed using only seven chemical components and were represented as a fixed-length tree. But in reality, a drug contains many chemical groups collectively known as pharmacophore. Moreover, the chemical length of the drug cannot be determined before designing the drug.In the present work, a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based methodology has been proposed to find out a suitable drug for a particular disease so that the drug-protein interaction becomes stable. In the proposed algorithm, the drug is represented as a variable length tree and essential functional groups are arranged in different positions of that drug. Finally, the structure of the drug is obtained and its docking energy is minimized simultaneously. Also, the orientation of chemical groups in the drug is tested so that it can bind to a particular active site of a target protein and the drug fits well inside the active site of target protein. Here, several inter-molecular forces have been considered for accuracy of the docking energy. Results show that PSO performs better than the earlier methods.
