Criterion of Bari basis property for 2×22 \times 2 Dirac-type operators with strictly regular boundary conditions

The paper is concerned with the Bari basis property of a boundary value problem associated in L2([0,1];C2)L^2([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^2) with the following 2×22 \times 2 Dirac-type equation for y=col(y1,y2)y = {\rm col}(y_1, y_2): LU(Q)y=−iB−1y′+Q(x)y=λy,B=(b100b2),b1<0<b2,L_U(Q) y =-i B^{-1} y' + Q(x) y = λy , \quad B = \begin{pmatrix} b_1 & 0 \\ 0 & b_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad b_1 < 0 < b_2, with a potential matrix Q∈L2([0,1];C2×2)Q \in L^2([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^{2 \times 2}) and subject to the strictly regular boundary conditions Uy:={U1,U2}y=0Uy :=\{U_1, U_2\}y=0. If b2=−b1=1b_2 = -b_1 =1 this equation is equivalent to one dimensional Dirac equation. We show that the system of root vectors {fn}n∈Z\{f_n\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z}} of the operator LU(Q)L_U(Q) forms a Bari basis in L2([0,1];C2)L^2([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^2) if and only if the unperturbed operator LU(0)L_U(0) is self-adjoint. We also give explicit conditions for this in terms of coefficients in the boundary conditions. The Bari basis criterion is a consequence of our more general result: Let Q∈Lp([0,1];C2×2)Q \in L^p([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^{2 \times 2}), p∈[1,2]p \in [1,2], boundary conditions be strictly regular, and let {gn}n∈Z\{g_n\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z}} be the sequence biorthogonal to the system of root vectors {fn}n∈Z\{f_n\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z}} of the operator LU(Q)L_U(Q). Then {∥fn−gn∥2}n∈Z∈(ℓp(Z))∗⇔LU(0)=LU(0)∗. \{\|f_n - g_n\|_2\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z}} \in (\ell^p(\mathbb{Z}))^* \quad\Leftrightarrow\quad L_U(0) = L_U(0)^*. These abstract results are applied to non-canonical initial-boundary value problem for a damped string equation.

On the Riesz basis property of root vectors system for 2×22 \times 2 Dirac type operators

The paper is concerned with the Riesz basis property of a boundary value problem associated in L2[0,1]⊗C2L^2[0,1] \otimes \mathbb{C}^2 with the following 2×22 \times 2 Dirac type equation Ly=−iB−1y′+Q(x)y=λy,B=(b100b2),y=(y1y2),(1) L y = -i B^{-1} y' + Q(x) y = λy, \quad B = \begin{pmatrix} b_1 & 0 \\ 0 & b_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad y = \begin{pmatrix} y_1 \\ y_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad (1) with a summable potential matrix Q∈L1[0,1]⊗C2×2Q \in L^1[0,1] \otimes \mathbb{C}^{2 \times 2} and b1<0<b2b_1 < 0 < b_2. If b2=−b1=1b_2 = -b_1 =1 this equation is equivalent to one dimensional Dirac equation. It is proved that the system of root functions of a linear boundary value problem constitutes a Riesz basis in L2[0,1]⊗C2L^2[0,1] \otimes \mathbb{C}^2 provided that the boundary conditions are strictly regular. By analogy with the case of ordinary differential equations, boundary conditions are called strictly regular if the eigenvalues of the corresponding unperturbed (Q=0)(Q=0) operator are asymptotically simple and separated. As distinguished from the Dirac case there is no simple algebraic criterion of the strict regularity whenever b1+b2≠0b_1 + b_2 \not = 0. However under certain restrictions on coefficients of the boundary linear forms we present certain algebraic criteria of the strict regularity in the latter case. In particular, it is shown that regular separated boundary conditions are always strictly regular while periodic (antiperiodic) boundary conditions are strictly regular if and only if b1+b2≠0.b_1 + b_2 \not = 0. The proof of the main result is based on existence of triangular transformation operators for system (1). Their existence is also established here in the case of a summable QQ. In the case of regular (but not strictly regular) boundary conditions we prove the Riesz basis property with parentheses. The main results are applied to establish the Riesz basis property of the dynamic generator of spatially non-homogenous damped Timoshenko beam model.

On the completeness and Riesz basis property of root subspaces of boundary value problems for first order systems and applications

The paper is concerned with the completeness property of root functions of general boundary value problems for n×nn \times n first order systems of ordinary differential equations on a finite interval. In comparison with the recent paper [45] we substantially relax the assumptions on boundary conditions guarantying the completeness of root vectors, allowing them to be non-weakly regular and even degenerate. Emphasize that in this case the completeness property substantially depends on the values of a potential matrix at the endpoints of the interval. It is also shown that the system of root vectors of the general n×nn \times n Dirac type system subject to certain boundary conditions forms a Riesz basis with parentheses. We also show that arbitrary complete dissipative boundary value problem for Dirac type operator with a summable potential matrix admits the spectral synthesis in L2([0,1];Cn)L^2([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^n). Finally, we apply our results to investigate completeness and the Riesz basis property of the dynamic generator of spatially non-homogenous damped Timoshenko beam model.

Spectral functions of the simplest even order ordinary differential operator

We consider the minimal differential operator A generated in L2(0,∞)L^2(0,\infty) by the differential expression l(y)=(−1)ny(2n)l(y) = (-1)^n y^{(2n)}. Using the technique of boundary triplets and the corresponding Weyl functions, we find explicit form of the characteristic matrix and the corresponding spectral function for the Friedrichs and Krein extensions of the operator A.
