$\frac{|V_{ub}|}{|V_{cb}|}$ and Quest for New Physics

Charged current semi-leptonic decays of $B$-meson are important for a precise determination of the CKM elements. The CKM elements $|V_{ub}|$ and $|V_{cb}|$ show a discrepancy between the exclusive and inclusive determinations. These determinations are however masked with hadronic and other uncertainties, and thus can't be unambiguously taken as implying new physics. In the present study, we propose a new observable: the ratio of these two CKM elements, $R_V \equiv \frac{|V_{ub}|}{|V_{cb}|}$, which is found to receive negligible corrections due to hadronic as well as QED effects. Interestingly, $R_V$ as constructed from exclusive determinations of $|V_{ub}|$ and $|V_{cb}|$ agrees quite well with that constructed from the inclusive determinations of these CKM elements. Hence, we propose that $R_V$ is a better and cleaner observable, and can serve as an excellent tool for the test of the Standard Model. We also provide an example of its probing power.

$D^0\rightarrow \bar p e^+$ Form Factors in LCSR

Baryon number is conserved in the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. Baryon Number Violation (BNV) is one of the criteria to explain the matter anti-matter asymmetry of the universe. Various beyond the SM (BSM) scenarios motivate BNV. In that view, it becomes important to look for various BNV decays. \\ In this work, we consider the BNV decay of heavy charmed meson to anti-proton and positron. This decay proceeds via the dim-6 SM effective field theory (SMEFT) operator and involves 12 independent form factors. We give estimates for these form factors in the framework of Light Cone Sum Rules (LCSR). As the interpolation current for the proton state is not unique, we have considered different forms of proton interpolation current and discuss the effect of the choice of the interpolation current.

Light Cone Sum Rules and Form Factors for $p\rightarrow e^+ γ$

Proton decay is a baryon number violating process, and hence is forbidden in the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. Baryon number violation is expected to be an important criteria to explain the matter-anti-matter asymmetry of the universe. Any detection of the proton decay will be a direct evidence of physics beyond the SM. In SMEFT, proton decay is possible via baryon number violating dimension-6 operators. In this work, we pay attention to the decay channel $p\rightarrow e^+ γ$ which is expected to be an experimentally cleaner channel due to less nuclear absorption. The gauge invariant amplitude of this process involves two form factors. We calculate these form factors in the framework of light cone sum rules (LCSR) using photon DAs upto two particle twist-3 accuracy as well as proton DAs of twist-3 accuracy. We find that the form factors calculated using photon DAs are more reliable.
