Injectivity and stability for a generic class of generalized Radon transforms

Let (M,g) be an analytic, compact, Riemannian manifold with boundary, of dimension n >= 2. We study a class of generalized Radon transforms, integrating over a family of hypersurfaces embedded in M, satisfying the Bolker condition [23]. Using analytic microlocal analysis, we prove a microlocal regularity theorem for generalized Radon transforms on analytic manifolds defined on an analytic family of hypersurfaces. We then show injectivity and stability for an open, dense subset of smooth generalized Radon transforms satisfying the Bolker condition, including the analytic ones.

Cancellation of Singularities in SAR for Curved Flight Paths and Non-Flat Topography

We consider a mathematical model of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) with a known, possibly non-flat, topography. In this context we consider the problem of recovering the wavefront set of the ground reflectivity, given radar data measured along a curved flight path. We show that if singularities are located at "mirror points," then the resulting data may be smooth; in effect, the singularities "cancel." With a flat topography, these mirror points are always discrete, but we show that in a non-flat topography there may be infinite families of mirror points.

Multi-wave imaging in attenuating media

We consider a mathematical model of thermoacoustic tomography and other multi-wave imaging techniques with variable sound speed and attenuation. We find that a Neumann series reconstruction algorithm, previously studied under the assumption of zero attenuation, still converges if attenuation is sufficiently small. With complete boundary data, we show the inverse problem has a unique solution, and modified time reversal provides a stable reconstruction. We also consider partial boundary data, and in this case study those singularities that can be stably recovered.
