In this paper we study the behavior of the size of a monomial ideal under polarization and under generic deformations. As an application, we extend a result relating the size and the Stanley depth of a squarefree monomial ideal obtained by Herzog, Popescu and Vladoiu, together with a parallel result obtained by Tang.
A method for computing the multigraded Hilbert depth of a module was presented in [16]. In this paper we improve the method and we introduce an effective algorithm for performing the computations. In a particular case, the algorithm may also be easily adapted for computing the Stanley depth of the module. We further present interesting examples which were found with the help of an experimental implementation of the algorithm. Thus, we completely solve several open problems proposed by Herzog in [12].
Let $I\supsetneq J$ be two squarefree monomial ideals of a polynomial algebra over a field generated in degree $\geq d$, resp. $\geq d+1$ . Suppose that $I$ is generated by three monomials of degrees $d$. If the Stanley depth of $I/J$ is $\leq d+1$ then the usual depth of $I/J$ is $\leq d+1$ too.
Let $I\supsetneq J$ be two squarefree monomial ideals of a polynomial algebra over a field. Suppose that $I$ is generated by one squarefree monomial of degree $ d>0$, and other squarefree monomials of degrees $\geq d+1$. If the Stanley depth of $I/J$ is $\leq d+1$ then almost always the usual depth of $I/J$ is $\leq d+1$ too.
We study the regularity of binomial edge ideals. For a closed graph $G$ we show that the regularity of the binomial edge ideal $J_G$ coincides with the regularity of $\ini_{\lex}(J_G)$ and can be expressed in terms of the combinatorial data of $G.$ In addition, we give positive answers to Matsuda-Murai conjecture for some classes of graphs.
Let $I\supsetneq J$ be two square free monomial ideals of a polynomial algebra over a field generated in degree $\geq 1$, resp. $\geq 2$ . Almost always when $I$ contains precisely one variable, the other generators having degrees $\geq 2$, if the Stanley depth of $I/J$ is $\leq 2$ then the usual depth of $I/J$ is $\leq 2$ too, that is the Stanley Conjecture holds in these cases.
We show that the Stanley's Conjecture holds for an intersection of three monomial primary ideals of a polynomial algebra S over a field.
